I totally agree with this, it makes no difference what you choose to do, any practical skills you learn now have to be a good thing.

Guy thanks for your big welcome message to @Jack10 we really appreciate that :giggle:
Personally I believe that "The School of learning never takes a day off"
And when Jack started working with me at weekends last year he said, "I want to learn to be a mechanic"
So I've been patiently teaching him how to use hand tools.
"You'll need a 19mm spanner and a pair of molegrips for that"
IMG_5513.jpeg

And now he mostly gets on with it ;)

Yesterday we had to pack up early but managed to get the brakes on the GX105HD stripped down and checked against the new parts.
Now just got to clean them up and reassemble with adjustments as required :geek:
Tomorrow Jack is out fishing with his mates....

As for Jack, he's only 14 now and I firmly believe that he will be suited to a modern apprenticeship.
Perhaps at a local garage or main dealer. You'll be aware that he now helps me service our family cars.
And I've already told him that he will need to learn about EV technology ahead of the game.......

Refurb of the GX105HD progresses slowly with other stuff going on....

IMG_5532.jpeg

Popped in some new brakes shoes and linings after cleaning up all the adjuster parts....
IMG_5572.jpeg

Brake drums were a mess  but the bearings were all OK. I love my needle gun :p
IMG_5573.jpeg

Gave the drums a basic rub down with wire brush cup and abrasive paper. Quick sniff of etch primer and some black tish. If it was mine it would be red tish. Can't have rusty subs poking out of the wheels

Later today it will be Bowden cables and adjustments before getting it back on the new tyres.....

Mate of mine up the road has bought a piece of land next to his house. "Oi Routy, can you give me hand to clear it"

IMG_5409.jpeg

So I gave him loads of advice on what to do and how to go about it etc. And to hire in a digger and dumper a bit bigger than mine. His brother is handy with machines and stuff.....
IMG_5574.jpeg

Rocked up there yesterday and they are really cracking on with it. About 7 grab lorries of dirt and stuff. Using my 'method statement' Perhaps I should be a 'consultant' now I'm semi retired

IMG_5575.jpeg

That's my orange fence! Popping over today with some of my stuff to give them a hand clearing the old tree stumps etc ;).....

Apparently so 😲
Set of leaf springs (or rubber) on each axle keeps it simple 😉
No doubt our expert will be along shortly to discuss the merits of either system 🤓
Yeah, it's a lot simpler.
Probably the most significant penalty is needing more room under the guards to accomodate more suspension travel.
This is a typical setup

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
Do you guys still get away with non-load shareing trailer suspension?
That went out in Oz about 15~20 years ago
won't beat rocking beam suspension set up for axle load sharing ... used to use them a lot on leaf sprung twins ... IIRC I have a brand new 3.5t set sat here still

gonna make one hell of a garage and driveway, if nothing else ... nice boundary wall (block or legos, if accessible) and work in
