Finally got the refurbishment on the GX105HD all competed.
It's the snags that take the time 😠

IMG_5749.jpeg

Jack now knows how to fit new springs and U bolts etc. He even learnt about Nylock nuts 🤓

IMG_5751.jpeg

Jack even learnt how to torque up correctly all 20 wheels bolts 🤓

Phoned up the Ifor dealer - I'll come and get that new floor then"
After checking, "Sorry mate, none in stock, getting some in next week"
Then when I finally pick up the floor from the dealer with all the new shiny parts working well, he said, "You might want to straightened out that hitch"

IMG_5771.jpeg

WTF - dunno how I missed that 😳
On checking, the animals that use the trailer had bent the bolts underneath.
Apparently they had been using a digger bucket as a 'come along' to move it on site 😡
So another hour or so, unseizing bolts, fettling it with new nylock nuts soon had it sorted.

Genuine ONE PIECE 10x5 floor was £472 - hopefully will last longer. They have promised me not to load tarmac in/out of it with a digger 🤪

IMG_5761.jpeg

Had to be careful with the impact driver, so in the end I used an 18v cordless Makita to restrict the torque. The older 14.4 Makita were given a new lease of lift with some Li-Ion Batteries from Amazon - cheap as chips and so handy for drilling and countersinking etc.

Rear edging strip finished the job.
Didn't even bother suggesting that the 5 bar is replaced 🤪

Was a nice little job for a semi-retired guy and his grandson. 😎

If they must load it with tarmac, I’d suggest a sheet of 1/2” ply loose over the deck.
Yep exactly that - on my own Ifor I kept the old ply and used it to protect the new floor from stuff - aggregates, digger buckets etc.
But that's the difference between owners and users of kit
My son-in-law tells me that they have now gone and bought a nearly new tipping Ifor for tarmac - we shall see what happens to that :ROFLMAO:

I'd have stuck a piece of 5 or 6mm plate in there at that price and had change  ... and never change it again ;)

Got a couple of old Mak.s which're like new, nigh on, in need of some batteries .... will have to have a look at the voltage and trawl Amazon - NiCads though so doubt the chargers'd handle Li-ion  .. anyone??

Yep here you go Gra
Makita batteries
And yes my old 14.4v charger does both Ni-cads and Li-Ion - works a treat 😉

well I went and had a look at said drills - 's 18v ni-cads .. there's a few on Amazon that are close but none that really match :( ... drills're probably 30 yr old (but hardly used and good drills when they were)

Another suggestion whilst on the Amazon site is to simply do a search on the battery part number such as PA18
You can even get a deal on a battery and charger bundle if your old one is not up to the job.
Be a shame to send your old "Site Masters" to landfill
When doing fiddly jobs I find it easier to have more than one or two drills ready to go ;)

can't see a number on the batteries, sadly ... will have to take one apart and see if there's anything in the cases ... might search for 'site master' batteries too ... they're bloody good drills and like you I like to have a few on the go.
When I built the black shed I had four out - drilling, countersinking, screwing large and small screws .. same on the trellis fence -- three on the go ...

I'd agree,
Old man had one's just like it, came from travelling salesman :cautious:.
He knew they were knock-off's but worked well enough for the price. Not a serial number to be found on the body or the battery. Batteries were toast after 6mths.
I think I still have one of them knocking about, dead as a dodo.

As gently as I can ...
You've got the Aldi/Lidl kit already ...their combi drills will be less than a knockoff battery and a darn site better for what you want .

These can then be popped back on the shelf for someone to puzzle over one day 🤭 like my first one ..a mak stick drill never parting with it but it's useless now 🫣

quite possible .... they have worked well for many years TBH and have plenty of guts, but are struggling to hold charge for long these days  IIRC I knocked the guy with a bootful in my yard, down to 40 quid for two which i was happy with at the time, but always had my suspicions, re. their origins :giggle: ... just thought that if some bat.s could be acquired at cheap enough rates, it's more weapons in the arsenal ;)

:giggle::giggle: ... absolutely .... more than happy with Aldi's Ferrex stuff, for what I use it for - 's not front line kit -- got several Bosch like your old Mak sat in a box - useless - but were decent in their day
just seemed a shame to have the others sat, if bat.s were cheap enough. Can sit again though ;):giggle::LOL:
