no snow here for the next two days - bright and sunny .... and they've throttled back Saturday's forecast deluge to a mere 39mm now  .. with another 9mil 'til dawn on Sunday
but jeeeeeezus did it ever snow at half seven this morning on the way to meet Russ at Pontrilas .. left early 'cos the roads were diabolical and then had a damned near white out, most of the way ..... sun was out by ten :oops:

The problem round here though is rarely solvable by extra traction. As all the idiots around you have caused chaos.
Reigate hill a few years ago in the snow had icy patch halfway up. Not very big maybe 20ft long. Qué of cars crawling up the hill nose to tail would hit the ice and grind to a halt, get pushed out and the next one would tailgate them onto the ice ready to be pushed out.
If they left a 20ft gap they could have easily got enough momentum up to cross the ice but no, this went on for hours.
We carry the AutoSock / Snow Socks in vans. Okay to get you unstuck or home. Not for getting TO work though.

Despite the snow its quite mild here today, above 1C. Dump of snow is a pigging pain in the ass, trying to sort out engineers and customers scattered around this corner of Devon. Some places fine, some roads blocked. Some engineers braver than others. Some customers understanding, some less so! Its not much snow, but only takes an inch to f**k things up as we are not used to it.

Loads of serious flooding in many parts of the UK. The ground was already saturated due to the crap Summer and then wasn't helped by being frozen solid.
Then as you say a fast thaw combined with lots of rain has seen water everywhere. I went out with the dog and it was just running off the fields, even if it could have sunk in it couldn't as the ground was frozen.

Clearing leaves is like clearing snow. If you leave them they vanish anyway.
