Today’s shenanigans
found a crack in the crane😳😳
IMG_1392.jpeg
it’s on this 👆linkage that opens out the telescopic arm
IMG_1406.jpeg
cracked just off the weld on both sides (still plenty of meat left but🤔)
IMG_1409.jpeg.
so gouged it out with the plasma gouging torch (first time I’ve used it 👍)
IMG_1407.jpeg
then die ground it back to clean material
IMG_1408.jpeg
and poured a bit of liquid steel in💪

And because I’ll be having a few days off😢 made a start on the manual pull out extension

had the steel folded to a pattern I’d made
IMG_1400.jpeg
then welded the two halves together
IMG_1411.jpeg
welded an end plate to one end and drilled the holes for the pin to hold it closed in or exten, got some thick walled tube that I will weld into the holes so the pin can aline easier

next job is some 1” plate on edge welded top to bottom that the hook can hang from (after the guy in the red coat has been😉)

Was a Manual pull out an optional extra for your crane? I seem to remember seeing something about it when I’ve checked out your crane specs in the past.

what spec. material is the Cormack component fab.ed out of Mog? ... most of these loader cranes use some pretty exotic HT grades

obviously only have the pic to go on, but looked suspiciously like a cold lap on my screen

Did to me too.
Also reminded me that I really ought to persevere with plasma gouging as the good old arc/air does risk adding unwanted carbon.

Well I gouged out to where the crack stopped (cold joint I think)

and the ‘carpentry’ is a bracket that holds the pullies (will take a picture) mine got bent in a previous life but I straightened it out after they sent the quote😳

as for the metal will be some good stuff💪 but my extension will only be used for the hoist lifting air con units so max 600 kgs but will test to 1500 kgs it’s 8mm folded and bloody heavy (too much for me to lift😢) I think I’ll be on the right side💪
