Electric vehicles

It might not sound like it but I think electric cars are a load of bollox by the way!
I do see a place for small commuter/shopping/school run cars (with a 100ish mile range) to be electric, and work as a combined grid battery as described, but having just electric cars across the board is a ridiculous proposal that solves no environmental issues.

Tbf I can see the point of hybrid either ice or hydrogen. But mainly from a performance point of view. No denying electric transmissions have amazing statistics. But whole green cars need a battery breakthrough as ATM they are just moving problems around especially when it comes to disposal.
I think a breakthrough will come but in the meantime there are a lot of people barking up the wrong tree

And I think there are plans for small scale water storage in the forms of towers and the like almost to act as dampers within the system. But don't know how likely it is to happen

There aren’t any other electric mountains in planning (which is a massive shame), and environmental woke badger-huggers would immediately stop the build of anything new anyway.
We live on an island with one of the highest tidal ranges on the planet - a relatively infinite source of predictable power just waiting to be harnessed!!
We can’t dam a couple of large estuaries and create the greenest electricity possible as it might displace a couple of seals etc though - it’s political suicide to try and make it happen so it never will.
We are ruined as a society…
Brunel and Telford must be turning in their graves!
Was nothing to do with environmental issues was all to do with the initial outlay for the Swansea one, who pays for it

At what point do we realize the answer is less not more
Less people less consumption less plastic tat.
If we don't reduce everything we may aswell reduce nothing.

I think we should reduce alot of things just because I think modern consumerism is disgusting.

And besides was it this thread that someone put up the link about water vapour contributing more to the greenhouse effect more than CO2.
yeh me .... was summat less than 1% is CO2 and circa 96ish % water vapour  ... will see if I can find it ..... it's all about revenue generation ... nothing else ... if UK was totally carbon zero tomorrow we contribute less than 1% to that minuscule amount anyway ........ it is utter bollox

Smart meters 🤣🤣🤣 oh yeah those meters the govt want us all to have so they can switch 1000s of houses of when grid can't meet demand for 15 mins.
continually ringing trying to get me to have one .... continually being told to sod off and stop calling :giggle: ..
as for using cars as a gert battery bank to draw on ..... so you pay to charge yer chariot, then they take it back and you have to pay again to recharge it .... right,........ what a sound idea pay twice use once - if you're lucky

Well won't be Swansea for sure .... many years ago they had a circa £10+m Eu grant to turn their city centre pollution free by two thousand and summat - leccy or LPG vehicles only for IIRC 5 mile rad. of the centre ... spent the cash on other things and never happened ..... logistical impossibility anyway

Biggest issue with the grid/leccy car thing is the fact batteries slowly deteriorate over cycles....... Average Bert won't know that until he reads it in the Mail..... But you and I do.

Personally it's high time those in city's where forced to ditch the car completely.

".. And what is this all about? The earth has warmed by up to 1°C since the pre-industrial age. Certainly that is something to take into consideration, while trying, neutrally and calmly, to assess its possible consequences. If, as claimed, greenhouse gases are contributing to likely further warming, what is the composition of the greenhouse effect. Alarmists claim that Co2, both natural and man-made, is responsible for 72.3 per cent of the greenhouse effect. But that calculation excludes the largest component of the greenhouse effect, water vapour, accounting for around 95 per cent.

When the totality of greenhouse gases is assessed, Co2 accounts for only 3.6 per cent of the greenhouse effect, of which just 4 per cent is generated by human activity; alarmists claim that figure is 29 per cent. That is immaterial: eliminating 29 per cent of 3.6 per cent of the greenhouse effect would hardly have significant consequences. When water vapour is factored in (and why would it not be, when it is the largest part of the greenhouse effect?), if every nation on earth achieved Net Zero tomorrow, the result would be to eliminate between 0.14 per cent and 1.04 per cent of the greenhouse effect. Is that outcome worth beggaring the world and setting back human development?

Politically, this issue is hugely significant. The reality is that, even if there is a climate “emergency” (and the evidence does not suggest there is), there is no practical global response to avert it. As regards the significant, but not catastrophic, warming that is likely to occur, each nation must look to the protective ameliorations appropriate to its particular situation: in Britain, that means investing in widespread flood defences. Otherwise, some of the consequences might actually be benevolent. "

" the Prince of Wales announced in March, 2009 that the world had just 100 months to prevent irreversible climate disaster. That meant the jig should have been up by July, 2017. Yet last weekend HRH was now warning of “a dangerously narrow window of opportunity” to save the planet. "

" Other institutions have long lost any credibility. In 2007 the BBC predicted the Arctic would be ice-free by the summer of 2013: in the autumn of that year, the volume of Arctic ice increased by a third. "

some interesting figures:rolleyes: and statements

Less than 1% is quite a mild statement.
C02 is 0.04%
So our 1% is something like 0.0004%

Oooh the international man of mystery...charter PhD degree in delivery driving 👌
f**k knows.....

I love diesel, and coal..... But It's a reality that consumption is the issue.... be it environmental damage due to waste or carbon dioxide less consumption will reduce the impact.

But the fool is on about how carbon capture from atmosphere is viable..... er it is.... but the energy cost is huge!

battery tech is evolving, lithium ion is just waht we have at the moment but liquid metal looks a much better long term solution but will take time to get it mass produced.

As for charging, most people do not need 300 miles range every 24 hours not even close. Those that do can use the 250kw rapid chargers.

Vehicle to grid is a good concept as well, being able to choose when and for how much you want to charge will suit a large proportion of users.

The problem is Infrastructure to charge is decades away from being viable, every motorway services needs at least 100 250kw rapid charge stations as a minimum. Every major town the same or where are people with no off street parking going to charge ?

Until this happens then plug in hybrid is the best of both worlds, cheap company car tax and no range anxiety.

Nail on the head 👌

Also saw a electric DPD van on the hard shoulder just now...with dim looking lights 🤣
better crack out his emergency back up generator then :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I'm wondering if this is actually the man in the stranded Van :ROFLMAO:

He's a odd one, but the Litmus word has brought out his true bigot. Do as I say :ROFLMAO: If I had spent six years studying physics and later done engineering I'd of done **** all with my life so far. Fortunately I didn't do a qualification in Psychiatry or I'd be dangerous.
