Well it must have been a sign, ended up bringing this home today (combined with a work trip this morning it's been a 600 mile, 16hour day 🥱)
Been converted by a retired guy- proper tinkerer with home made sun following solar panels, wind turbines, battery banks and one of the most skillfully modified, -to make it arthritis friendly!!- series one land rovers I have ever seen, and his recently deceased father in law. Currently running 2 Chineseium 6.5hps, you can run either or both and came with the original engine which is apparently all good apart from the carb which has been repaired now, so could just be put back together. Starts, steers runs etc, I can either keep it as it is, put the original engine back in, or I quite fancy putting a honda gx390 in it.
The modifications are very small, basically a few extra holes.
It's one of the loudest, most frightening things I've ever driven at 2mph 😆
After about 30 seconds though I had a handle on it, turns very nicely. I love how solidly and simply built it all is.
I paid a grand total of £700 for it, I was feeling slightly guilty about knocking him nearly in half on the price, but he told me several times he was genuinely pleased it had been bought by someone who was enthusiastic about it. Great guy with some interesting stories and toys, was there over an hour!

Sorry for the thread hijack but thought the machine might be of interest to some who follow it! Cheers.
no prob.s on the hijack (y) .. 's a cool acquisition  .. the MG5 and MG2 were very similar, but the 5 had a much improved engine .. the example you have there is a VERY clean engine. Makes me want to drag my 2 out for a play, :giggle: but it's some proposition to extract from the far end of a very full forty footer :( ... there is a LOT in the way .... and would take some packing back in too

Oh and BTW ...... you absolutely stole it :giggle::cool:

It's really tidy in general, I'm very pleased with it.
Could you cut another door at the far end of your container? 😆 🤣

I'm very happy with the price, he seemed very happy to get it sold and to someone who was obviously interested.
I think the best thing he could have done to get top money would have been to pull the Chineseiums out and put the original back in, even as a non runner- I think the appearance of it would have put quite a few people off, but I could see the potential 👍. But that just wasn't practical for him to do on his own unfortunately.

Part of his interest in other fuels, it can be run on gas! Not that I don't trust his work but I won't be using it, I don't have anything else gas powered so I'll stick with petrol 👍
small engines like those are usually run on the vapourised gas straight out of a bottle's regulator, rather than needing a liquid delivery system, with a heated vapouriser, as a larger engine needs.
throttle/engine speed is usually controlled by the delivery volume, determined by the regulator's flow ... start at zero and work your way up quietly ... should run fine (y)
obviously no petrol required so run it dry, or start on petrol, to warm it up and turn the supply off, as it's about to die introduce the LPG, but it should start OK on LPG once you have determined the flow rate required.
the gas vapour is simply directed into the inlet, just before or just after the carb. .. most likely before on those.

Aha got you .are you sure it's not druid's brother?
nah my brother never took any interest in alternate fuels ... he was a diesel fitter ... CI or nothing for him  think the last petrol car he owned was an Ital

three and a half hours to Plymouth, Friday :( didn't get away 'til 4.40, after we'd dropped Clara off for her swimmy lesson  ... would've been better off having some grub and leaving after six, particularly as all I'd had all day, was a slice of toast .. AND it was Glastonbury weekend.. but she wasn't having it  .. lunch tasted good at half eight
Forces day up on the Hoe Saturday .. red arrows came over at 11.20, flying the whole of the South coast apparently and a few other 'sky sleds' through the day ... not a great deal to see, of interest, anyway ... nice Terex PPM 45AT, but that was about it really ... was particularly struck by how tatty all the military kit looked .. wouldn't have been allowed out the motor pool like it a few years ago.

kids and sprogs (and Pam) wanted to go in the water after and as Pam wasn't fussed on all the sea weed at the water's edge, we ended up in the salt water Lido on the front ... anything below 30C is out of the question as far as I'm concerned :oops:
WP_20230624_16_25_54_Pro.jpg

I hid in the shade, having very sensibly opted not to wear shorts for the day .. was scorchio ...I'd've burnt in some order.
saw the bit of the sea wall that Rory was working on a few weeks back .. Mr Baron still has a long reach there on the job.
Rod Stewart was apparently doing a concert in the football stadium that evening and as we were heading for the GF chish and fip shop on the harbour, walked past this and wondered if he might be 'camping out' on it after the show
WP_20230624_18_19_09_Pro.jpg

but didn't think it'd be big enough for Rod's own  ... Josh said they rarely get anything of that calibre in the harbour  just googled it and it's owned by James Dicke (??) - valued at $25M o_O https://www.superyachtfan.com/yacht/reef-chief/
The cod an' chips went down a treat - still catching up on a meal from Friday
Sunday morning was spent on one of J & KM's fave little beaches, where I got me right leg 'lobstered' despite creaming the pair of 'em - go figure - 's only just calmed down :censored: left one was fine  ... followed by a 'late-ish' lunch at a very up market 'greasy spoon' type café in a very large boat yard (nicest 'greasy' I've ever frequented) .. food was awesome and had plenty to watch from the roof terrace on top of 'the spoon' :giggle:

WP_20230625_14_57_15_Pro.jpg

had 3 of those special FLTs that got discussed a while back for boat handling, with the forks that go below the ground level, down into the water .. chassis looked very Hyster-esque .. the masts were in a league of their own

WP_20230625_14_57_07_Pro.jpg

must've pulled 15 out while we were sat there and slotted a good half dozen in ... very busy .... three levels of storage - open air, semi-covered and behind the semi bay in the pix was a huge building for the fully dry storage .. and I mean 'kin big!!
serious money's-worth invested in the yard ... let alone the boats.
then had a 'stroll' (route march) round the area to eyeball a property that J was interested in .. (they're always looking for a 'bargain') / summat to move on to .. called the old coal yard .. fully walled, 60% under steel frame cover 30m water frontage, 30m x 10m of fore shore and about 20m depth from the harbour wall - surrounded by resi. :giggle: ... fab. potential - sealed bids - guided at £150k -- yeh right  reckon you could double that .. and then start 'the spend' .. on planning and all the rest ... amazing spot though ... if I was 15 years younger
Monday's 'lunch' in town read - coffee and cakes -- Pam wanted to have a wander
WP_20230626_14_37_35_Pro.jpg
but had to collect the eldest from school at three - another route march ... " 's not far " yeh right !! ...... have had the bloody feet walked off me this weekend .. 's alright if you ain't got dodgy trotters :(
then back to J's for tea at half five, 'fore heading out about 6.15 ..... back in Chez Druid two an' a half hours & 160 miles later. Great run back .. dial 75 and hit the cruise ... new sled went very well..... left here with a full tank and still got just under the half on the gauge, 320 miles later ... will brim it again tomorrow and see how it did .
Treatment was a bit late Monday - like 9.30pm ..
Got up yesterday with a stinking cold  .. kids all day and then a crap night drowning in snot .. got back up at 2.30, came down and slept upright in an armchair .. 'til the sun hit me about eight.
few odds an' sods done then shifted Lil' Jake from in front of me boxes, to have a go at fitting an inlet plug
WP_20230628_17_44_21_Pro.jpg
WP_20230628_18_06_59_Pro.jpg

took a bit of juggling/sorting to get it where it wouldn't foul the switch gear/contactor, which is rail mounted, so very tight to the box back .. got there though
WP_20230628_18_06_53_Pro.jpg
WP_20230628_18_15_24_Pro.jpg

I still like blue/yellow/red... easier than trying to read pissy little numbers on cables and I know that they're L1/L2/L3 on all me 3ph stuff :giggle: ... no neutral on this motor, sadly - 440V - so no VFD :(
WP_20230628_19_17_27_Pro.jpg

job done ... kids again tomorrow, or I'd've run it up
finished off after tea with a template, for the missing side plate cover -- would've originally been a fwd/rev switch

Love the DRY STACK MARINA. Do you pick the level depending how bad you think climate change will be?
looked like they stick 'em in any empty slot, the way they were going at it Sunday Shaun ... some set of forks on 'em and all cushioned ... very tidy set up  .... can't imagine the rates are cheap though !!

Noticed a similar setup at Portland ...5 racks high. They charge £600 a metre for 12 months 😳

Local to me. I'd have it but not really useable. Just for show.
mine to a tee ... 'cept IIRC mine's '32 ... see he's got some tail weights on it .... bloody nose heavy with now't on the back .... when I bought mine I had to track it down a hell of a slope down the guy's back garden to a lane at the bottom of it .. having had a little play with it on the flat, I then negotiated with him for my anvil, that I still have -- strapped that to the implement lift bar on the back and away I went .. 150 yd baptism of fire  was a good 40 deg.s in places ... lived on the old Black Rock road above the A465 new Black Rock road ... he had it in his cellar/basement, which accessed the garden and had altered his side entrance since bringing it in there .. and wouldn't go back out the way it came in

could always tow yer skip trailer round with it Dyl ... they're great in the woods, tushing timber

TBH It's not dear - have seen 'em make £2+k in that condition ... sign of the time I 'spose

Yeah i did think it was a good price. My track borrow would probably do what that would

you'd be surprised ... I doubt yer barrow'd tush a 2 furrow plow .. they were used extensively through the war to cultivate patches of ground not suited to other methods. Considering how many were about back then, not that many survive
bid him a one-er if you've it to spare ... 's a good investment at that ;)(y)

dunno WTF this bug is but it has floored me - completely wiped out - can barely walk and just feel 'disconnected' ....
haven't been to bed in a week ...
upright in the chair or drown  ...
banging head all week and absolutely zero sense of smell with not a lot of taste either .. or appetite ...
beginning to wonder if this is some sort of covid variant  ...
terrible chesty cough and just can't clear it ...
no better today than when it hit and can usually shake a proper cold in two days :(
anyone had anything similar??
