We have a 70 plate Movano which is a rebadged Master. Also had a 16plate.
Not sure which Tranny you were driving but we have (and have had had over 20) and every single one has been a better drive than the French variant .
I misremembered, it was a Traffic, not a Master. The Tranny we’ve got now is a high top lwb about six years old and for me it’s never been that great to drive, trying to creep along in slow moving traffic on part-throttle it surges and slows, and Ford have saI’d there’s nothing wrong. It’s a lease vehicle so it’ll soon be moved on, we normally change after three years.

Twelve years ago I had a hired swb Tranny to take my tools and a spare engine to Belgium to do an engine swap on a 950 shovel, and that was an altogether different beast, it was a better drive than a lot of cars. To me they’ve gone backwards.

we’ve also had problems with aftertreatment and engine management, but to be fair ours doesn’t get many long runs and doesn’t get driven hard, which doesn’t help.

I've not hada many issues with electronic throttles, they've been in use for well over twenty years now!

They will usually throw a code and put it in limp mode before they give issues such as surging- it's a safety feature.
the 'pot.s' incur most wear on their tracks at idle/rest/just coming off rest ... - it's the one point on the track that has an almost constant contact with the wiper - and vibration has an effect ... it's imperceivable on most set ups, but some will 'surge' from idle especially high mileage, stop/start delivery vehicles or those that spend a lot of time at idle

My transit tipper was the same on part throttle, I think it’s something to do with the rail pressure control valve or something, a known issue. It still drove fine most of the time so never bothered messing and been gone a year or so.

Back in this game again. Currently deciding between a recon engine in my favourite MK7 transit (one of the last ones made - Limited / 3.5t / Air Con / all the toys) Versus starting again with another van. Not sure I can face the hassle of sign writing/racking/towbars/cameras and all that s**t again so soon.

agree with Aiden ... the devil you know with a new heart is a lot less grief
out of interest what's the cost of a lump?
Recon from a supplier that the garage recommends ( 12 month warranty that might actually be honoured) is £2.3K+ Injectors £900+ Labour £1200+ Filters / Fluids etc all on top. Clutch done 18 months ago so hopefully that ok. Pushing £5k+vat all done I expect.

....... and job sorted .... what'd the original lump done and at what costs (major issues, not servicing) ... it's an almost instant solution to a problem your really do not want to have to delve into, in replacing the whole van! (and all the tish that accompanies doing that )
's your 'daily' so you'll get to treat it kindly for a couple of thousand miles

If you like it and are prepared to run it do it...
One thing I can assure you is a new one will be a damn site more than that!!!

Tell me about it ... We bought a 70 plate back end of March and its still sat in yard. Should be on the road working by end of the month. Think that was £12K and even with plenty of savings by re using racking etc, its still been about 20 hours labour and another £2K to get it ready. And now its spotting oil.. and haven't even used the bugger yet!

That would be good value to get a van you know the history of back up and running for a lot more miles. If the rest of it is okay I would say it was a no brainer.

Our Transit pickup we are finally decided it has low compression issue and needs a new engine 😔 it's on a 67 plate and only 37K miles and we've already spent 5k on it. Doesn't seem like engine rebuild is a thing for this engine.
Recon or new engine time ?
