had damned near forgotten I had this stashed .....

car transporter trailer kit .. well most of it anyway ...
had a bit of a tidy of it and dug out the suspendies for it ... knew where they were .. U bolts & plates're all indoors

gonna need some materials to put it together though .... certainly easier to park/store, like this

re-juggled the pile to accommodate it ..

have spent half the day on the phone, to various folks who've suddenly started coming out the woodwork, ref. the farm for sale ... seems the imminent end to the lock down on property dealings has spurred a lot ' people's interest/enthusiasm about getting enthused .... and these are new inquiries, aside from the couple of dozen who've been awaiting an opportunity to view.
bloody virus (and the chinks) have a lot to answer for ... completely buggered our progress on it.

me mate Simon rang last Friday with a problem, in need of help .... arrived lunchtime with this damned gert pulley ..

which has a floating drive to it with a shear pin in the intermediate boss/bushing

and a slightly buggered shaft that didn't want to come out ...... for him at least ...... with the right ideas and some suitable tools ... it wasn't long coming out and he departed to their engineering place they use, to have anew one knocked out ..... after he'd robbed a metre of 50mm BDMS off me. to take with him, for a couple of new shafts too

fast forward to yesterday and he was back again .... with his new spindles and the rest of said machines drive system, which was equally uncooperative about coming to bits

'til I got me hands on it !!

Simon dispatched for some new bearings and an oil seal and i pottered on tidying up some crud for a while ...
'til me carrier arrived ...

and left after offloading my 'happy birthday to me pallet

and Simon met him on the drive coming back with 130 quidsworth of .....

forty odd each .... after 90% discount ... list price was telephone numbers !!
new shaft and bearings installed courtesy of me lil' press ..

then it was the bevel gear's turn to get the treatment

oil seal installed ... took some shoving in then the far end carrier bearing

and the boy was away to chuck this back in its hole in his bro.'s factory
made a dent in my week, so far .. didn't get a lot done yesterday
out this morning, after a couple of hours dealing with 'farm inquiry' emails and damn me the boy's on the dog an' bone again ..... can he come over with ..... all of it !!

I'd just gotten this on ....

and was sussing whether we'd got any leaks ...

dry as the proverbial
twenty minutes later and I'm dropping the Cranab back on the floor and grabbing the VA-r's forks to get this sodding great lump out of the back of his Nissan four by

and got it set up on the bench ...... for a serious slogging ... after an hour's cooking with me plumbers blow torch .. oxy too aggressive for this to fry the bloody loctite
not a happy bunny - me ...... they didn't give it a dry fit, 'fore chucking the gert pulley on't shaft and failed to get it on far enough, presumably 'fore the loctite 'bit'

a hell of a lot of sledging later ....... pulley is 500+ mil across and won't fit me press frame (mental note to self - bigger one required) hence strapped and braced to the bench ... and 'twere back out

and so were the bearings after all the slogging ..... the drift took a serious beating

was an unmarked piece of 40mm bar when we started ..... and I just about melted, slogging it ... been 32 in the shade here today .. we were in the full glare on the bench ... Simon elected to do the drift holding, as the chances of me getting hurt, doing the holding, with him swinging the sledge were "seriously high"

this ......

took some cooking out and beating into submission ....... on the hottest day of the year, so far
'S all sat in a box tonight, cooling down, 'fore it gets the die grinder and scrapers over it in the morning to get it back to where we were yesterday ... for a dry fit, 'fore it get's returned to its home. ...... so that was yet another day shot to s**t today .... and doubt i'll get much change out of tomorrow either

curious one for you all ....... when it gets really dry and hot, we get a small spring appear on the side of the drive ... assume the water table is down to a point where it finds a different route out of the rock strata?? ... first time it's shown up this year ... had it several times last year with all the dryness we had early on

can even see it bubbling up occasionally and can get quite 'wet' ..... but only when it's really hot and dry ... weird !!


and finally .. on edit ... it's so warm here tonight that the IR sensors on the outside lights're confused ... struggling to differentiate 'tween ambient atmospheric temp and a moving body ... have to get up real close and move about, 'fore they'll trigger .. actually have to touch/cover the one to get it to recognise you !!

looking for some suggestions / recommendations for a tacho for the 'Drema ... summat I can retro fit to the Deutz F4L .. got a handheld laser tacho which is great for setting up engine speeds - or was 'fore the auto throttle decided to not play ball any more and I had to install a cable ... would like something, ideally digital, that'll give me a reasonable indication of engine speed, that's relatively easy to retro fit, either optical or hall effect type sensor, on the crank pulley'd be the easiest location, physically.
anyone got any ideas/suggestions or know for a set up that'd do the trick for me??

I fitted a digital tach to the power take off on a tractor a few years ago, I will see if I can find pictures. It used an inductive proximity switch.
I also fitted one to a milling machine using a 12v led driver for the power supply.

Have a look on the alternator, to see if there is a `w` terminal, that is for an tacho, then something like https://www.durite.co.uk/s/c/equipment-and-accessories/gauges/dashboard/tachometer .
If there is not a terminal on the alternator, I think you can pick up a feed by soldering a feed wire to any of the wires coming from the stator, and before the rectifier.

You're essentially getting the pulse from each rotation of the alternator and that provides your RPM range.

so ....... having gotten it apart .... again ..... spent yesterday morning cleaning it all up, removing burrs and Loctite and generally sorting it all out for a dry assembly, before putting it all together 'properly' , so's Simon could re-install it in't machine

and he departed after lunch .... his assistant at hos brother#s factory had burgered off, so it was a 'this morning' job ... got a video tea time of it running like a swiss watch ..... should keep his Bro. happy


I spent the rest of the day juggling crud

and burning rubbish
some of it needed an after dark job ..... some lumps of glasron board ...

burnt bloody well though .. had the drum glowing

more juggling today .. between the rain

still never ceases to amaze me just what it'll lift and how far it'll pick it from/to

remembered to park her a bit differently tonight, so's i can get at several grease nipples that are buggers to get to, fully laid out .

saves having to interrupt the action, to give her a few pumps here and there ....... been an on / off day weather wise, but have been lucky to have a lot more dryness than predicted and gotten a fair bit sorted ..... plus several bin fulls of bloody leaves burnt, as they get uncovered, picking pallets off them all

so .... continuing on with the square up/rationalisation of space .... Sunday or not, it was having it ... had to re-bag this lot first

for the third time ..... bloody UV knackers these dumpys bloody quick, but at least on pallets they last longer than tearing the corners or bottoms out picking them up by their straps

but do take up a lot more floor space

knackered pallet went in't burning bin ..... along with yet another bin full of dead leaves .... can't be many left lying about now??

will have a lot more room when this lot are in position in a wall

haven't seen this bit of floor in a while ...

I'm quietly getting there .... need the room for Russel's 30 ton Liebherr for box moving ... cranes are big lumps when you get 'em in a tight space

Pam's been fruit picking on/off between the downpours today and yesterday ....
this is the third dish of these ... 2kgs/dish

gonna be busy on the jam front shortly ...
and this is an experiment ...

strawberry ice cubes .... piles of 'em left on the plants ... I just go for it now and then and sod the results .. love 'em ... allergy or not ..... if these don't thaw tidy they'll make jam if now't else ...... think even the squirrels have had their fill ... and loads left ... we'll thaw a couple out and see how they fare ... otherwise they'll either get frozen for jam production later ..... or we're gonna need a pile of jam sugar ....... soon!!

dunno what it is about my coffee mug ..... but this is the second one I've not broken ... both prezzies from Josh

squeak killed the first one, dragging the table cloth off the kitchen table, when he failed to make the leap up, in his usual one bound ..... now Pam kicked this one off the table beside the settee tonight ... would've been fine on the carpet ... if her's hadn't landed on top of it ... good job they were empty, or it'd have been a VAX job tomorrow, after treatment !!

aye ...... we've come to that conclusion too .... tw*t has just started on a job down the village apparently, so Pam's 'walking mate' tells us. If he doesn't want the job, just ****ing say so .... couldn't have an easier site ... flat, dry, all mechanically handled and brought to his feet ... all he got to do is lay it FFS ... he is an odd ball, but a great mason ..... time to get 20t of sand and a pallet of cement and see what i can do
