OK, so I've just been to look over the Yanmar.
It started instantly as a Yanmar TV engine should. It's had a new starter solenoid and ket switch bodged in though.
Slew ring- tight. Very little play side to side on the ring gear either.
Weight on the plate- 3030kg
Bucket pins- as you'd expect. Probably fine for intended use.
Kingpost- Probably less wear than you'd expect on such a vintage machine- sending OP video. It's a big chunky welded kingpost.
Tracks well, pulls to the right very slightly but the left track is very lose and the right tight so may well be this. High speed tracking has been moved to a switch behind the front panel and a hole cut out to access it (this was news to the current owner!)
Plenty of power in the boom, lifted itself easily on a fast tickover. Not so on the blade, maybe three inches off the ground), could be a weak pump section (couldn't really test the slew much where it was) Didn't lift itself on blade much more at full chat either so could be that the relief valve wants tweaking.
Has definitely had a repaint- the new yellow is much darker. It's not terrible, it isn't falling off in sheets at least. The injection pump and other bits of the engine have exceptionally good paintwork- I'd say there's a chance it's had a new engine in the past. The engine oil is clean, owner says he's also done track motors. Diesel filters are full of crud but she ran fine the whole time. Had it running for around 45 mins, no sign of oil leaks on his nice stone driveway. Hydraulic oil is on the sight glass but it looks like an internal tank filter so I was unable to check for any clue as to when it was last changed.
I couldn't get the breaker circuit to activate. I'm not familiar with it- there's a kind of lever behind the left joystick (labelled PTO) that only seemed to move one way, and nothing happened. Is anyone familiar with this? Forgot to get a photo. I can't see how you'd use it in conjunction with the left joystick!
The exhaust rattles, he was trying to tell me it was a loose baffle but you can see it just wants the bracket welding back on underneath. No biggy. The deadman arm doesn’t stay up- probably needs a new spring. Very annoying having to tie it up every time you get out.
It's relatively tight for the age, but it's a very old (1999) machine. It's got a short (by modern standards) dipper, which isn't ideal for lake work. Given that you can get a 2014 ish Hyundai or Bobcat 2.7t with similar/less hours for 13k no vat ( know because I recently sold a 2014 Bobcat E26 for that with under 2000 hours), I think it's overpriced. It also looks to be overweight for a trailer. He seemed keen to sell, hovering around me the whole time. I don't think he's had much interest.
What do you guys reckon?
