I would go 2.5t, so much more useful than 1.5t imo - for the times you move it it will be fine, wouldn't get something too banged up, even though it's not what it was you will still buy/import use it for a few years and make a few quid when its time to sell, thats if you buy right and look after it somewhat.

Don't really have the contacts for transport anymore, one owner op retired and other firm I used not interested in single units.

There is no import duty on used plant if you have correct paperwork/code etc.

French love a Kubota - kx61 would be a great shout, bombproof/movable and plenty of spares over here.

This outfit are good fore spares like tracks/sprockets/rollers etc by the time you've bought from UK (if shipping) it's better to buy here.

I would stick with 2.5t size - much easier to sell on at good money.

Thanks for the info and advice, so it's just the TVA, no actual import tax ( I know from experience it's 10% for cars.) I am struggling to find a list of rates on the Douanes website?

What's to stop you buying a digger in UK and taking it back on the ferry out of interest?

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
Yes. But thinking in general rather than specifically to OP. Could someone living in France simply come over to Plymouth on a ferry buy a digger and return as if it was just a caravan/every other holidaymaker🤔
think Kevin @Furniss probably has 'experience' enough to answer that one ;):giggle:

Do you actually need a mini-digger, or could a JCB 3CX or similar be the answer to your problems?

No issues with moving it between your sites plus, with an extending boom and some bog mats under the rear legs, should be plenty big enough to do the lake work safely.

Brexit put paid to all that malarkey 😠. I had a great time for 15 years or so buying speed boats and cars all over the UK and importing them to France. Nothing to pay on import, no checks at the ports, still had my UK license, didn't get any points on said licence in France. Then one day it all stopped, my income halved, and life because very difficult. Hey no .....

I had a very old 3C for around 10 years. I got a lot of work done slowly, as more often than not, I got it stuck 😂😂😂. As you know by now, I am no expert, but I fancy tracks this time around......

As op says. Brexit ...it's getting worse by the month.
We import a fair bit in day job ..and it's absolute PITA now ..tightening up all the time.
Literally everything has to be squeaky perfect now. Correct commodity codes on invoices etc...most haulers won't even collect from an exporter or load it let alone enter port now unless everything is pre cleared.
Soon as they see anything remotely commercial they'll be onto it.
The game has firmly changed.

I'm still in agreement with Brexit but it's cost most companies an absolute fortune ...

I think the problems are down to the ineptitude of government negotiators rather than the concept of brexit. And I think a lot of people fail to separate the 2. i know they want to screw us over but we came of as weak in the whole situation.

And the worst part of it all is no bacon sarnies or fryups 😠😡👺. If Marks and Sparks have had to close their food sales in Paris due to lack of availability of UK foods ....... what chance of us mere mortals buying a packet of bacon 😂😂😂
