do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
I've bought and sold many a vehicle, at one point was my main income, I still do today but as a secondary.
Someone who's come with a fair approach always ended up taking the vehicle home...those that came with the low bids and big haggle didn't...one because I'm stubborn and 2 because they portrayed the agro now, theyd be agro after the sale too.
I've bought many things...including the green machine purchase...just buy saying this is 'where I'm at and I'm prepared to give you this'
Biggest gripe now is all these tossers that bid you without even seeing it and will say offer 3k for somthing you've got on at 4.5k...I'd also say most of them that throw daft bids like that you could say yes to and they'd still not turn up. The joys of selling over the Internet.

I still get good results from a forsale sign in the window.
absolutely .. turn up, assess, bid if you consider it worthy, other wise - cough up if the asking is right ------ or ferk off

And just a big thank you, especially to Ruben, otherwise I would still be looking at 1.5's and paying too much on Yanmar!
It's a shame you can't fish a few extra grand out of that lake of yours as seems like your current budget is at the turning point between really quite old machines and late 2000s machine which I consider the golden age of 2.8t mini excavators

So where wou 'll d you be at regarding price???
Not a penny more than £7000, I'd personally be at £6000ish. But I personally would be shopping for something that hasn't got bodged wiring. Nothing drives me more crazy. A straight what you see is what you get machine may not be any dearer if you have the time to wait. Far better machine for your needs I would say than a 1.5t.

So, the offer is in........

Morning Martin, hope you have a lovely time on holiday.
Following Ruben's visit yesterday to inspect your Yanmar, here are my thoughts.
The weight of the machine at 3030kg makes it illegal to the on a trailer.
The front blade is weak and will require work to the pump.
Ruben could not get the auxiliary circuit to work.
Most of the other items he picked up on I would expect for a machine of this age, though the dodgy ignition wiring and 2 speed switch relocation concern me a little.p
All that said, the machine has its strong points too ..... which leads me to price.
I would make a firm offer and commitment to buy at £6250.
I am back in the UK on Friday, and will be buying a digger within a week.
I am obviously happy to wait until you return from holiday to collect the digger, and would also be happy to pay a small deposit to deal the deal.
Let me know your thoughts.
Have a safe trip.
Cheers Richard

is it still the same dog friendly cab behind the seat that the 228 was! My patterdale loves being tucked away in there on a wet day- can't find any other manufacturer to beat it!
The cab is great, but no room behind the seat I’m afraid.

How does it compare to the outgoing bobcat for handling with the rototilt on etc?
Surprisingly there is very little in it tbh - I thought it would kick the bobcat’s arse for stability with the big arse on it but the bobcat was amazingly well planted to be fair. (Though I’ve spent more time on my 6 tonner than anything else recently so I might be thinking this is less stable than is fair because of that (as they have the same cabs and drive much the same)).
It’s definitely better for digging/grading though, and the rotate circuit is a lot better.
The paint hasn’t fallen off yet, which is a 100% improvement on the Bobcat….
