so did get a bit of time to play 'gate posts' ......
much discussion with Russ recently on this subject .. have had materials here for a while, waiting for him to sort the bases out and get some concrete poured into the holes
he claims there's 7mil difference between 'em in heights - looked more like 57mil to my eye when I was over there, a fortnight or so ago - will take a laser level over next time I'm out with him, from his place and have a look-see?
need to be sure before I bang the hangers on the posts, but can allow a bit extra on the post lengths to cover eventualities
so .... lumped the base plates onto the bench and set 'em out

'fore getting the old faithful Magtron out for some fixing holes
22mm broach so got the coolant pump out too - save it getting too warm in 20 mil plate

I love a broach ..... centre dot and away you go .....

makes life so easy

apart from the copious swarf quantities and the clean up after
#1 done ... onto the next

one more to go for #2

and then clean up the damned mess ... soluble spreads everywhere

dug out the hangers that I've had here for months - not the most manly of things and an odd shape crank on 'em ... worked out the pin plates and got 'em set out and drilled, 'fore I separate them out - much easier to hang onto for a 19mil hole, to suit the hangers' bore than after I'd lopped 'em up

and countersunk the backs of 'em ready to weld the pins into 'em

was a tad late in the day to go winding up the genny to:- chop 'em up with the Startrite, or lop the pins to length, or wind up the Harrison to turn some tapers onto each end of the pins or wind up 'lil jake to lift the 6 inch SHS into the saw for squaring up/length-ing, either.

well pleased to say the rinse cycle did the trick ... must've been a bit of scale stuck in the valve seat .. has had a load of washing through it and sat now for three or four hours without incident.
will keep the door closed on it for a day or two, but fairly confident it has sorted itself ............ thankfully

Maybe get the gauge out and check your static and dynamic water pressure. No idea what its like in your part of the world. We get upto 10 bar round here on mains and it can cause problems

got the CAD (chalk aided design) fired up to work out the bearing points and post length, 'fore getting set up to sort the post material .... had to go back indoors and check Russ's drawing he'd sent the other day ... just didn't look right, but having checked, double checked and then again .. it's right (if the details I've been sent are right)

having determined a length was time to get some 150 square in the Startrite ... grabbed an end and thought " no bloody way José !! " ... 'Lil Jake time

got it on the rollers .....

...... and then into the saw's vice -

balanced it, mid point to get the rollers set at the right height

and set the blade to work ..... was a bit more manageable once lopped - once I'd lifted the off cut out was time for no 2

ends were all to hell on both pieces, so had to trim/square up the ends first

and having gotten them both lopped to 1762 mil was time to drop 'em on the bench, after I'd parked the off cuts out the way - couldn't quite get two out of one piece - annoyingly

magnet picked the pair of 'em, off the floor, together, no sweat
and whilst I was sat there, I lifted that boom (that I've not had time/weather, to touch for months - soon - very soon though ) down out the way

weather wasn't too bad earlier in the day but a cold old wind blowing hard today with the odd spot of wet stuff, threatening ..
whilst I had the genny running/Startrite in action, I also lopped the pins and bearing plates to length and popped the pins in the Harrison to clean them up and chamfer the ends ... only piece of 19mm I could find (to suit the hangers supplied with the gates) was looking a bit s/hand, 'til the pins spent a few minutes in the Harrison's chuck

got a post set up ready to assemble, after I've put a cable hole in the bottom of one face of the SHS and the odd random rain drop became a little less random .... looked for all the world like I was gonna get p*ssed on, so wrapped it up for now ..
forecast was a lot better than what we actually got today, which was annoying - had hoped to have these all assembled today

not getting capped - Russ is planning on filling 'em with concrete, once the stonework has been built surrounding them and a cable duct fed down through them .. were originally getting 9" of stone around all four sides .. but!
due to him not getting the footings far enough apart, the hinged sides are only going to be able to have 4" of stone, hence the short hinge plates - should've been 5" longer and gusseted
not a happy chap when I sent him his drg back annotated ... so was a bit of compromise on the positioning of these posts within the stonework cladding -- Reo'll sort it

weather is 'sposed to be nice tomorrow, but it's 'hamster juice' morning and gonna have to go to town after that - stock up on moggy grub - forgot it last time we went shopping, so we'll see what's left of the day after all that - hopefully will be a bit warmer tomorrow too

we're on a spring supply Stroppy ..
gravity fed to my pump, from circa 1/3rd of a mile away and then pressurised to 1.5 bar in the house, through pump and pressure vessel ...
standing pressure is only ever 1.5 bar max. ...
pump ceases at 1.5 bar
pressure vessel is at 1.5 bar too - checked/recharged it Monday
pretty sure it was a scale flake in the solenoid valve seat ..
having operated the valve with a rinse cycle, it looks to have cleared and hasn't repeated the 'random' drum fill - never done it before - having thought more about it, it'd have to be limescale flake ..
the inlets are gauze filtered on the solenoids, so no grit could get through there or the two 1 micron filters between my pump and pressure vessel, before even entering the house.

IRC some machines won’t let you open the door if there’s water in the drum
And other installation instructions tell yer to put an up stand drain pipe at about 19” so it won’t overfill and overflow
Glad that you found the cause of the weeping fill solenoid valve - until next time

thing is, it wasn't powered up so not sensing water in the drum - solenoid not powered up or supposedly operational either .. assuming there was a scale flake in the seat it was only entering at a slow rate - visible but slow after we'd pumped it out on a spin cycle.
as said, after operating the solenoid with a rinse/spin cycle the problem's disappeared, so sticking with my hypothesis

no bloody leccy this morning ....
coffee had to be had and wasn't winding up the genny just to boil a kettle
have had this a very loooong time and is always handy when the leccy disappears .... has also done a lot of time in various crane cabs ..

came back on just after 12 so -- bench time
cable trunking holes for starters

should be able to get a bit of ducting through them
then assemble some hangers

set out the posts for hanger locations and got 'em attached .. then gusseted up

got the post up off the bench and the first base plate stitched on

and welded up

followed by #2

base plate stitched on and ready for consolidation

and then there was a pair

then Pam showed up to say tea would be ready .. when I was ... good timing
and insisted on having a pic with me in for a change

job done .. sent Russ some pix and half expected to see him arrive with his van half an hour ago ... must be out in the Lieb tomorrow or he'd have been busting to put these in place

Squeak beat him to the best seat in the sun and had to move him when the sun went down, to put the covers on overnight.
he did beat Squeak to my lap later on though when I sat and watched Where the Crawdads Sing on the box --

perfect fit for 'Lil Jake - localish - supplied by some firm in Southampton - guy can't recall who -- or what breed they are --- had a quote from MST a while back, but can't find it or recall how much

guess what I did yesterday -- well for a part of the day after a couple of hours on the strimmer, followed by some spanner time on the Dane - when it wouldn't start -click click click

note the azure skies .... hell of a frost this morning though and could do with warming up through the day - best was 14 yesterday

could have done without this ....what a little bitch of a thing to get out ... only two mount bolts, but getting at the one was @+*$&¬ !!
first time I've had to put a spanner to it properly really though
never been the greatest of starters .. can sort of see why now
not an easy thing to get yer hands into

but got it off

dog stuck out ... which went back in with very little persuasion so reckon the ring gear'd have chucked it back in - had it started, anyway ...

weird set up - dog is rubber mounted on a cup shape - the top hat washer gets thrust up into and against the rubber cup and presumably drives through friction (but would allow it to 'free wheel' once the motor fires before the starter is released

armature looked fine

and cleaned up really well
brushes on the other hand were well ferked

have failed to find a rebuild kit with the brushes (and ideally bushes) this morning so have had to buy a new starter at 100 quid - mower's useless without one - will continue to search for a kit though as the rest of it is decent enough and could do with a second starter for the second Dane I have, which came as a ''spares or repairs' with the runner
new one's 'sposed to be a next day job so hopefully get it on and running/usable for the weekend
