had my day spoiled yesterday, by the posty -- new council tax bill
gone up 285 quid to a quid short of 3,800 bucks FFS
2 quid a day for plod's slice ... try getting a ****er to turn up when you need one

a week short of 6 months to come take a statement a while back, when the barn up the drive got turned over and they lost a tump of gear and a horse box - found two miles down the road attached to a Freelander on its side in the lane, ablaze, which the fire brigade and recovery had to be called out to, to clear the lane.

Pam actually saw a load of the gear that went, in the back of a local ne'er do well's motor, the next day whilst out walking, with her mate ... plod didn't GAF - w⚓s ...
info. went to somewhere it did some good and the situation got 'dealt with' locally, :giggle:♣️🏏:devilish:👊 one dark night (y):giggle:

Looks like he’s landed on his feet so to speak when he chose his new digs.
certainly did ... IMHDO he's only 18-20 mths old, so not quite as 'resistant' to TLC and food on tap, as an older feral might be

WP_20250321_16_22_02_Pro.jpg

have been umming and ah-ing about pulling the trigger on one (and hoping they'd stick 'em in their spring sale). had one parked in a 'basket' on their website a few times... procrastination must've worked, 'cos got sent a discount code end of last week, so saved meself a few quid :giggle:
all arrived in one piece, despite the crap packaging - i.e., just bung a label on their box , which'd had a caning in transit, so was expecting the worst, when I slit all the extra sellotape round the edges
WP_20250320_16_56_16_Pro.jpg

it's no Husqy, but for the amount of use I'm likely to give it, it should be fine - 3 yr warranty is nice too
this was interesting .....:unsure::rolleyes:
WP_20250321_16_21_56_Pro.jpg

only use E5 in all the garden gear anyway .. mowers, strimmers, hedge cutter, leaf blower, etc. ... don't want any grief from E10 in them so had plenty here to make up a 1:40 mix to give it a try.
just got it all unpacked on the bench and some juice mixed, popped some in the tank and it started second pull .... just as the bloody heavens opened, so slung it all in a 40 footer and locked up
appraisal is gonna have to wait 'til the morning, or maybe even Sunday - forecast for tomorrow not looking great  which is damned annoying - was gonna Dane the rest of the green shite tomorrow - was all looking nice and dry
seems well enough made and put together though on first inspection and started really well 🤞

Don't put too much chain oil in it. Mine doesn't have a pump and seems to work by either gravity or venturi feed.
The result is is leaks badly when not in use and you always come back to an empty tank.

well got it all assembled yesterday and gave the hedge trimmer a try out on a large bush that needed a few feet off the top and reshaping - too tall for the Husqy hedge trimmer - performed very well, fair play ..(y)
as warned -- it's no light weight and would not want to cut a big hedge with it ... but for the amount of use I'm gonna use it for - it'll be fine - and I'm not on the clock ...
will give the pole saw a try tomorrow .. been a shite day here today and CNBA with it ... forecast is wall to wall blue sky in the morning :giggle:

busy afternoon ...
been meaning to get this sorted for a while, but needed a good dry day to drag all the tish out to get at it ...
had a chap come look at Josh's F650 the other day and said to him .. " don't stand on the sump cover - it's ripe " what was the first thing he did? :( ..lucky he didn't hurt himself :oops:
so dragged some gear out and ...
WP_20250324_18_34_38_Pro.jpg

pulled the top off the sump :(
WP_20250324_12_56_50_Pro.jpg

bit nadgered and the support rail on the one side was completely shot --- luckily the bee-emmer was sat on the edge wall of the sump - not the deck cover
WP_20250324_12_56_55_Pro.jpg
or it'd've taken some getting out that hole --
the sump is a collection point for three of my land drains channelling them off to yet another collection sump about 30 odd feet away:rolleyes:
WP_20250324_12_57_04_Pro.jpg

so pulled all the 'deadwood' out and then shovelled all the silt out the bottom (it's concrete, although it doesn't look it there ):giggle:
went and cut some 75 x 50 x 6 RSA to make some new supports with and drilled 'em ready to install them, to replace the old knackered wooden rails, after a coat of shiny tish, to hopefully keep the iron worm at bay for a while
Dewalt 110v hammer soon made some suitable holes for some expanding body 12mm Spits (y):)
WP_20250324_15_40_01_Pro.jpg

then find some timber to replace the decking with .. what came off was well past its use by date
could've done with something a little better and'll probably replace it with summat better later in the year, but this'd have to do for now :sneaky:
WP_20250324_17_06_40_Pro.jpg

bit of re-cycling - BIL's old 'gazebo' apparently - I'd lopped up any thing usable for stickers/packers/cribbing and the rest'd gone in the woodshed .. glad I'd kept these bits (y)
the two 'long' 2x2s are there to assemble the deck onto for spacing and to be able to lift it out in one piece for access - 10mm gaps're to let it ventilate - 's always wet in that sump :(
battery gear came into its own - hadn't tried the Ferrex impact driver before - damned good little weapon - two more for a pilot drill and countersink - saved a lot of messing about having three units on the go:giggle:
WP_20250324_17_49_54_Pro.jpg

getting there ....
the sump was chucked together a looong time ago and there is only one square corner in it (the shape was determined by the ground conditions and what I found in it, digging it at the time  )
got to the end of it and found I was in need of a taper to finish off with -- getting on for tea time and heading towards losing the light so it had to have it - half a length at a time - it'll do for now ;):)
WP_20250324_18_21_53_Pro.jpg

I'd put the two end pieces in first off to support the Wing's front wheel - if that went in the sump it'd've pulled it off its centre stand and been a total catsaftermee :oops:
WP_20250324_18_24_31_Pro.jpg

WP_20250324_18_24_23_Pro.jpg
job jobbed - time to tidy up - put all the tish back and have a late tea (y)
WP_20250324_18_43_58_Pro.jpg

my feet are dying tonight - been up and down me patch at least 60-70 times this afters, fetching gear, back and fore cutting timber with the chop saw on the bench, etc., etc.. ...... :(
glad to get it sorted though .. finding an F650 in a hole would not have been a good day :(:(

Just been catching up with your blog Gra and like me you have had more than enough on yer hands to keep you busy :p
And as regards the Multi Tool like you had considered all options including the Hyundai one that you bought.
But bought a small Eskde chainsaw a while back - it's the dog nuts and can even use it up the Cherry Picker one handed

So back in November bought a similar Eskde 5 in 1 multi tool job from an eBay seller.
And again it's the dog's nuts. Starts easy and most interesting using the chainsaw with all extensions :ROFLMAO:

Image 4.jpg

So far have used the hedge cutter at all angles and chainsaw at various lengths.
Great set of tools around the garden :giggle:

You caught those rotten boards just in time
The boards over my inspection pit are similar when it gets wet over the winter.
Mind you they are 6x2 s and well treated. Always leave an air gap between each board.
Submersible pump does well in the winter ;)

Now you see, if you had a min skid steer your feet would be absolutely fine. 😀😀😀

A mini skid would also have lifted any casualties (Human or mechanical) out of the sump.

It’s not until you have one that you wonder how you ever managed without.

boards were hanging in well TBF ...... was the 3 x 2 wooden support rail screwed to the brickwork that'd succumbed the worst Dave :(... one side completely in bits, t'other did not take a lot of persuading off with a gorilla bar.
will replace that green timber with some 200 x 38 CLS when I go get some and chop it to shape ... with a few good coats of bitu on the ends and undersides ... but the green tish got me out of a hole (pardon the pun)
hopefully the 75 x 50 x 6 RSA rails will outlast me now :giggle: ... the sump'd been there a good few years, before the black shed - one of four various drain junctions that I built about the place - directing all the run off away from where I deffo did not want it (y)..... one sump also doubles as a large attenuation tank to slow the flow into some smaller runs, already in place, exiting Chez Druid .. they're gonna get 'improved' at some point, with a MUCH BIGGER :giggle: pipe run and'll hopefully stop the lawn from flooding and floating the turf, with the pressure build up under it when it's really persisting down

Simon on the phone this morning .. a.n.other factory break down .. shaft had had an oil seal wear a groove in it and was leaking ... any ideas about a machinist / machine shop to sort it ... sent me some pix whilst I had a think .. came up with the young guy I bought my Meddings off, who's relatively local ... msgd him to see if he was up for it and sent him some pix .. " come on up - no sweat " ....
Simon was here in 40 minutes with said shaft and we set off for Adam's, with Pam coming for the ride (and she had a better idea of WTF we were headed - local knowledge ;)), to the middle of no where - talk about out in the sticks!!
Have had an open invitation to call and see him since he dropped the Meddings off for me, sooooome time ago - just never gotten around to it - not the sort of place you'd be passing, en route, to elsewhere

Nice machine shop set up (couple of his bits of kit below) and knows how to drive them (y)

shaft presented no prob.s as far as he (or I) could see and I had a quick squint around his shop - spotted his bar rack and asked him if he'd flog me half a metre of 40mil I have a job for - no prob.s - anytime I want odds an' sods of stock, just give him a shout:love: - since me mate down the road retired, finding some where for odds and ends had been uphill. :(

Left said shaft with Adam, who reckoned he could have it done for the morning
1743034557432.png

and departed clutching my piece of 40mil BDMS :giggle: ... with an invitation to return soon, for a proper eyeball of his facilities and a good mooch about his collection of crawlers and other toys :giggle::giggle: (gonna be going back - soon) :giggle::giggle:

Pam on the way back comes out with " I don't know who's got more toys - you or Adam " :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: ... " Adam - for sure, kid " :alien:💚

got back and cheked out me chunk of 40 was a perfect fit (y)

Creda Excel 1200 here on its 18th year IIRC -- had a set of drum bearings about 7 years ago - otherwise, been a great machine (touch wood) -- complete strip to do the bearings though
talk about painting the devil on the wall Dave @Routy56 :(

Pam went to bang some clothes in it this morning - opened the door and out poured about a gallon of water :mad:
after the mop up ----- spun it up to empty it and I'm watching the drum slowly fill - again ...:mad:
either a bit of grit in the cold water solenoid valve seat or the washer's split :censored:
just waiting for it to complete a rinse cycle to get the solenoid to operate, close and then empty to see if it clears the issue, 'fore pulling the top off and ripping the solenoid valve out
used to have loads of old solenoid valves sat -- 'til the 'big clear out' in '14, when everything got moved from work to home ... can't recall seeing one anywhere recently - may actually have to buy it one if it doesn't clear itself :(
scuppered my plans for the day - was gonna get started on Russels new gate posts for his place (5m pair on some 6" posts, with extended hangers - gonna get stone clad piers around them)

well pleased to say the rinse cycle did the trick (y) ... must've been a bit of scale stuck in the valve seat .. has had a load of washing through it and sat now for three or four hours without incident.
will keep the door closed on it for a day or two, but fairly confident it has sorted itself ............ thankfully :giggle:
