TB 1140 Slew Problems

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
New disk springs arrived today. Stacked together I measured the old ones to be 0.2-0.3mm shorter compared to the new ones.
Could that be enough to cause the cylinder block to not push enough to the valve plate?
try comparing/measuring the original and the new Bellville washers under given loads ... the old ones may have lost their tensile strength a little , so could well not be 'pushing' hard enough, under load ... their free measurements might not give you the true picture

Can’t really think of a good way to load them and then measure them. But yes I do believe these have lost some tension and were at least partly causing some problems to the motor.

build a stack - put a pin/long bolt through the centre - and down through say a hole in a bench top and load the pin with maybe a spring balance, underneath, or a weight on the top ... see what difference in travel you get at given loads ?

Hello guys!
So I have got the motor installed back. I didn’t have time to check for drift or pressure. But I did check the case drain.
If you have a look at the video you will see that at the start when slewing to the left it is pretty reasonable, but I am still not happy with the result, considering that literally everything has been replaced in the hydraulic motor. In the second part when slewing to the right there is more leakage compared to the left. This is definitely not up to spec. I have still got to get the exact measurement when I have the time to do so, so I can compare them to the specs according to my manual. But just by the eye I believe that the left will be up to spec while the right won’t.
What do you guys think of what you see?
I think that again after some hours clocked the drift will return and I will get higher case drain…
Does anybody know why is there difference in case drain leakage according to direction? Or is this still normal? To me it doesn’t make sense…
Do I have a problem in the brake valve? I checked everything in the brake valve this time and everything seems fine to me…
Can relief valves create difference in leakage, or other components in the brake valve?
Also I noticed that at the start of the right slew the case drain gushes at first and then settles, while the left doesn’t. I noticed this also before I had the motor apart this last time, except the leakage was even higher then.

my two pennorth ... when I was trying the Tico winch recently (piston motor) I forgot to couple the case drain on the first trial .. not an issue in the one direction, but as soon as I ran it the other way the loose cap on the drain port sprayed oil - big time - so it's possible that the one direction does leak more than the other?:rolleyes: .. haven't tried it since (with an open ended line connected - only to tank )

I wonder also if that is normal… Maybe @Mick-the-fitter knows?
Case drain is a lot lower compared to the last time I had it apart (I checked just after the assembly and it was pretty much gushing out, even though the drift was gone for a while…). So I guess replacing these parts this time did some good. And if the leakage stays like that and the drift of the slew doesn’t make a comeback I will be happy with this result. But still this deviation gives me some doubts.

Just another update on this!
I have checked again the relief valves. They both operate at about the standard of 330bar.
In the picture below you can see the result of case drain again that I did, one bottle for left one for right. This time the results are basically the same (I left the machine running for about 15 minutes on idle, which I didn’t the last time). The bottles are 1.5 litres and for each side and are filled less than a half, so by eye I can say it’s about 0.7 litres for each side in one minute.
Considering this and the spec from my manual this actually very much exceeds the expected value of 1.6 litres per minute. Let me note that I had the bucket fixed in the ground and the test was performed on the highest rpm with the fully operated pilot on each direction.
Now I don’t know if I should be proud to get the leakage that low because this is basically the best result I have gotten this far. Or is this too low to keep all the components well lubricated in the hydraulic motor?
Also the flow from the case drain hose was about the same as in the first part of the video that I posted in the post above, maybe a little lower than that…

Thanks a lot.

Does anybody know if this problem could be connected to the valves on the slew motor?
Because what I also notice is that this machine stops slewing very abruptly. And this feels to me like it’s putting a lot of strain to the hydraulic motor. Even though I am trying to be as gentle as I can with stopping, that is that I am slowly releasing the slew pilot command…

Thanks a lot for this. I actually have some other type in my machine. Seems like later serial numbers have the ones you posted and I can see why, because the one you posted looks a little mire rigid, with stronger springs and everything. I actually believe that the ones that my machine has is prone to breaking down, because they are also installed in 12ton Hitachis and this is a nearly 15ton machine. Also my machine has an offset boom that Hitachis don’t, which must contribute to more load in my opinion…

Another update!
I have been loading dirt today for about an hour. The drift is basically the same as before the last assembly. After I was done I checked the leakage again and it is still good. So basically same drift, a bit weak on the slew if you ask me but more than 10x lower leakage.
At this point I think I have a problem elsewhere not in the hydraulic motor. Could relief valves cause this, even though I get correct pressure readings?
My machine has a free swing switch/anti reaction valves (I believe that’s how they are called). Even with the switch turned on I always get the same results even though this should make the slew stopping much more smoother I believe.
Also this drift is not like a clean smooth drift. You have to be on an incline and have a lot of load on the slew motor. And the position then basically holds for like second and drifts for maybe a quarter of a second, then again holds for a second and drifts for a quarter and so on until the slew park brake engages. So it makes like some vibration when it drifts.
When I bought this machine the drift was so bad, that on level ground you could push the upper structure around by hand. And before the drift would fall to the lowest point of gravity in like 5 seconds. Now after rebuilding the motor at this rate it would maybe take 3 minutes. So right now it’s not like it’s not operable but working on an incline it bothers me a lot.
I don’t know maybe I am expecting too much from a 12.000 hour machine, but I believe this could still be fixed to be more tolerable.

There should be another digit, normally 9 digits, can you film the slight drift?
I will check again later on my machine, but I do believe this is the correct serial. I looked at ads on the internet now and saw that all Takeuchis from 2006 have 8 digits.
I will make a video of it yes. Probably in the evening.

This is just a quick video, I can make a more detailed one. Also I had no time and had a hundred things running through my head so my commentary is a bit off since English is not my native.
