If the straps are rated surely the hooks meet or exceed that rating as well? Obviuosly I'm assuming they are using properly rated straps, but as I can see a rating label on the dipper one it seems a fair assumption. It is only 3.5t and has 5 straps, probably each rated at 5t.

used correctly I'm sure they would, but not used as an eye on a rope hook they won't

was a time when ropes (or chains) was all there was ... if anchoring a lump of a load you chained to the chassis ... for lighter loads it was plenty of ropes and rolling hitches to get 'em tight ....
dare say a lot on here will only ever have used a rat sh1t and never roped a load securely .....
it is possible and has been done many many times by 'older' drivers

Iirc the rope hooks are load rated on the newer ifors, seem to remember seeing a sticker on a friends new trailer.

They for a while we're fitting a length of 100x10 flat bar along the under side of the cross members welded to the cros members, this was so you can hook your ratchet straps onto along the load

Problem is when you try and attach a hook on a ratchet to a rope hook you either put the rope hook through the triangle which can pop the weld and loose the ratchet. Or you put them hook to hook which moves the load point to far away from where it is meant to be anchored and snap the rope hook.
In all honesty it is really about time that ifor put something decent down the side of there trailers that takes a standard ratchet. Even if they extend the side rave in a couple of places To hook onto.

To end the argument about transfered draw bar weight counting as trailer weight or vehicle weight, it would appear that they are now making you drop the trailer off to weigh it. Regardless of whichever way you want to argue I would say that photo alone is pretty conclusive as to the official thought as there is no other reason you would be weighing a trailer alone like that.

I bought a couple of the triangle ring ended straps for that purpose but they were absolutely shite ratchets so hardly use em.
