can well believe it for buried .... they have some serious coatings on them and marking them putting them in is an absolute no no / kick in the bum, if you do

I have fitted a couple of gas tanks and we had to leave one side open to let gas escape if there was a leak, this was under building control

so they're not buried, per se, ??? ..... in a recess in a bank? :unsure:
blast walls to 3 sides and free escape for leakage on the fourth side?
lorraregs for LPG storage

IIRC Calor over saw those above, from reg.s to installation ... we trenched and holed, ready for their blokes to carry the can
even oversaw the back fill

There is the key problem from "just" under 11k
How well do the panels work if not south facing?
On a side note why can't we just fire up all the old coal power stations?
Nuclear power giving all its downsides still takes some beating

Nuclear can’t be turned on and off. Good for base load only unless everyone has storage…..wait…..are batteries and electric vehicles part of the long term solution?

Just ignore the waste aspect and we will be fine!!

be interesting to see their figures post October rise then :rolleyes: ....
it may have been 'capped' at a 7p rise/unit/Kwh, but that is still 25% from 28p today ..
so who in their right mind would buy a leccymobile, if they aren't able to have their own charge facility ....
and secondly ..
WTF are they only paying 7.5p/unit to Octopuss (who I thought had gone tits up?) when the rest of the world is paying 35p/unit as of 1-10-2022 ???
put it all on a level playing field and see how attractive the leccy sled is then ? :mad:
stop 'subsidising' the charging, at a cost to the rest of the populous/country/world and see how cool they are then

It's been trialed (using EV as storage) and probably works well for people who only drive 15min to go shopping etc. and don't need anything approaching a full charge.

What I think you meant is 'will it be gov policy to use private cars as public storage'. - what gov wouldn't want to use a resource they don't have to pay for?

This is partly what’s driving the smart meter roll-out IMO, and in fairness makes a great deal of sense.
Having a grid-wide battery ‘buffer’ smooths out the issues of green energy generation and peaks and troughs of demand - brilliant idea if you could get consumers to use it properly (ie not selfishly unplugging their fully charged EVs, which lets be honest human nature would dictate happens more often than not).
For any cars that sit on the drive/in a work car park 90% of the time and are only used for sub-50 miles commuting a day (which in reality make up a massive number of cars in private use) an EV used in such a way makes a lot of sense.

If your export price is higher than your import price.
Then it becomes attractive to walk/bike/pt in case your car is making you money.
No it doesn't! You can guarantee the export price at peak will be only a few pence more than the cheapest of the cheap 3am charging times.

Would barely cover the battery degradation, let alone be worth inconveniencing yourself for.

If it's going to cost you money to leave your car connected, then no one will - simple as that.

I would be most concerned that although they will promise only to take a certain amount from your battery so you always have enough for normal use they will have an over ride that will allow them to flatten the battery in times of emergency. Also it would be easy to legislate that anyone who has a battery vehicle has to leave it connected at home when not in use for the national good or to save the NHS, etc.

sounds a really attractive proposition - NOT .... you pay to charge yer sled and then they take it all back, so you have to pay again, assuming they've not flattened it when you need to use it too .... no way are ppl going to buy into stationary connectivity (unless they need it to charge) and as said ... going to do wonders for yer battery life - NOT.
the whole thing is a bloody farce

thats not how it works.

The main issue at the moment is electricity price per KWH is set by the wholesale gas price as gas is by far the biggest generator of electric. This is why we are now at 50p kwh capped when there has been zero increase in costs to the massive offshore wind farms.

Octopus energy do a 30min tariff whereby sometimes overnight where there is an excess of wind energy on the grid they pay you to take it. They are doing this out of their own pocket currently but there is strong mutterings of electric prices being de-linked from gas. They need to do this as the only way gas boilers will be binned is if they cost more to run than a heat pump to run.

I'm in the middle of renovating our next pad, an old 1920's building. I'll be making it near passiv standard (enerphit is the jargon for refurbs) by making it airtight and insulating the floors, walls and ceilings. It will require less than 3kw of heating for a 250m2 house. The costs are mainly labour and time.

In France/Belgium they dont have the mickey mouse EPC rating like we have, they rate the property in kwh/m2 of energy demand per year so you can immediately see which are s**t.

Heatpumps are a no brainer for hot water as you get double out compared to an immersion for the same money, they just need a non leaky well insulated house which unfortunately practically none (including new build) of our housing stock is.

Banks will sort it in the end as mortgages on low rated properties will be unavailable or very expensive. Market works in the end.
