The valve is a bypass safety. Any restriction or flow beyond what can reasonably get through the rad gets bypassed. Save blowing the rad up!

I’m sure you could add a sensor/switch into a tee, or get a long barrel nut and drill a port in the side and tap it to suit a sensor/switch. Or get a test port tee, remove the test port and tap that out to suit?
ah right ... see the spring now ..... bypass relief ..... good idea ..... where'd you source that from and what sort of relief pressure does it open at?

yes .... could tap a sensor/switch into a 1" bsp tee, or as you say use a Stauf tee and take the Stauf out of it .. I've a few 1" M/F Stauf test fittings, that were ebay gifts, I could modify ;) .... be handy to know what thread size those units are :unsure:

The bypass came with the cooler setup. It all came from P&R Hydraulics. I can maybe take a closer pic of the bypass valve so you can work it out?

I have a few uses for it already and a few others that will be forthcoming in future ..... way bigger than really needed, but the motor was a bargain, which happened to have the pumps attached (and a load of interesting bits an' bobs with it) .... same motor as the 'Drema runs, so's a handy thing to have sat .. in case and from a trusted, reliable source. Also an interesting little project, that will always have a value, in excess of its cost. ;)

thanks James .. could well be a handy thing to consider including ... there's IIRC 6 or 7, 16mm rows/tubes in that one of mine which should flow all an inch feed can throw at it .. hopefully :rolleyes:

Just don’t put any restrictions between the cooler and the tank (have the return filter plumbed before it ideally).

The return filter will also have a bypass in it though.
Anyway, if the cooler is oversized then it’s probably not going to be an issue and it is at least the cooler that came with the setup, should should be ok. Unless it’s not plumed up the same way this time?

Hmmm, I think I can imagine a future post something like, "The 'Drema seemed a bit down on power the other day, had a shufty down the exhaust side of the turbo and it was coked up like a chimney that hadn't been swept for 20 years! Do you think it needs to be run at more than 1000rpm with some load and more than 5 minutes?" :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

the rexroth r932500124 is just a check valve, not a relief valve.

Yes, but any spring loaded check valve will have a pressure that it needs to achieve before it opens. It’s obviously strong enough to use in this application as a bypass/relief valve.

Check valve and relief valve are two different valves for different jobs that just coincidentally may do some similar things. What's the flow rate on the check valve as apposed to a relief valve?

Well, we call them two different things, but essentially they are the same valve, just with vastly different spring rates. And a relief valve should be suitably sized to take full flow of any circuit that it’s fitted to, in the event of a ‘dead end’ it needs to take all the flow.
