What tractor and grass cutter

This is the field I need to manage . The green part at the top is my neighbours field and that’s what I want mine to look like ! There are springs that I am dealing with but a big issue is the dark areas are reed grass and it’s soaking in there . There is a stream though to the left of this grass for me to drain into . There is another dark patch at the top right of my field which is flooded from (I think) an overflow from another stream on the right and the reeds look lower than the stream . it could also be a spring . There is a really nice area out of picture above this wet area that is higher up and has some really nice trees in it . I’d like to be able to get through the wet area into this area .

I am working on getting the flooded areas dried up a bit but even after I have drains in it’ll still take ages to dry out .
Could I use a flail on a digger in these wet reedy areas ?
This field has been unmanaged for over 20 years so it’s needing some work to get it tidied up again .

Get it drained before trying to get the grassland where you want it, you’ll just make a mess otherwise. Once dried out enough to run on with a compact tractor if you mow regularly you’ll just end up with grass, not much need for any other management.

You might be right ! Maybe a flail on a digger might be wiser to start with til I get it drained down more . The green field above mine was the same as mine 3 years ago apparently

I don’t know much about them but I don’t think there survival skills are very good.

A heard of wild bore in there would clean it up good and after a year or so you spread some new grass seed. Also the bore are tasty

I've never actually had to drain down an area like this before . My experience is telling me to take levels all over it , find the low spots and run drainage from the burn to these low spots . What I don't know is would cutting the reeds down with flail help to drain it at all . I'm not a big fan of wavin coil pipe as it gets used for applications where it shouldn't in my opinion, but I am wondering would it be the right thing to go for in this instance . keeping the trenches narrow as possible and filling to the surface with 40mm drainage stone. Topsoil is about 300-450mm deep and then sandy clay . Another option would be cut V ditches all through it and leave them open so I can monitor where the water is mostly coming from . The disadvantage of this is access between the ditches whilst it is drying down would be a pain .
my thought is dry out the low lying areas first as I can't tell wether they are wet because the ground lies lower than the burn so surface water doesn't run off or wether springs are keeping them constantly wet .

Used to get wild boar locally from a farmer but he is retired now . I'm going to have to look into where I can get it again .
