No different to a coach can run faster than an hgv and i think coaches can run to 20 tonne on 2 axles as opposed to 18
And with a live load
"if everyone moves over to the left window, the bus will tip over" comedy sketch gold

obviously a camera jobbie???? 'Proper copper' would have had stern words and sent you packing .... not sure the same could be said of some of today's though .... all about targets :(

I'd have been ****in' livid too Mart :mad: ..... it's the 'oncosts' that are the bugger!
speeding points are speeding points .... no differentiation between that and 56 in a 30 limit with insurers  ...... which is VERY wrong

Coming back to the original topic of this thread if I may...
...will soon be buying a new pickup truck 😎
And have been following this and similar posts with interest 👍🏻
As many of you know I am self employed sole trader. Regarding capital expenditures tax what do you guys consider to be best practices on yer annual tax return when buying pickup trucks or similar 🤓

if you've had a good year, spend it on summat useful, that'll bring a return in itself, either from benefits of use , or resale later .... don't give it to the bloodsuckers in HMRC ... if you've premises ... maintenance is 100%:) tax deductable ... new fence, whatever  .... any new gear is better than just giving it to the ba***rds :(:(

Thanks for your observations as above - to which I agree.
My barn is filling up nicely with "plant and machinery"

So, everyone - what about "Capital Allowances" on yer self assessment when you buy a new pickup truck?
Do you claim the whole amount within your AIA Allowance or maybe go down the Writing Down allowance route?
I do all my own book keeping using Kashflow and submit HMRC returns (accountant was useless) :geek:

Incidentally, test drove a new Ssangyoung Musso as few weeks ago.
They pull well empty! Ride was smooth BUT there's a nasty shudder from the front end on rough roads.
Some call it a titty jiggle :ROFLMAO:
Spec was really good, 7 year/150k warranty.....
....but the price was rather high and dealer would not budge:rolleyes:

think Rob Taylor @Hydremaduck is pretty well clue-ed up on tax issues regarding gear and when's the best time to buy
Never bought a new vehicle on the biz, so have no idea .... I used to spend as much of the the profits as poss. on equipment...... as said .... no bloody point in making it, just to give it all to the leeches :(:( ..... and had it to use, to make life easier ..... to make more :giggle::giggle:

You can claim it all down to your tax free earnings and any left over goes in a pot to be written off at 18% a year

Thanks Fred,
yes I too read this HMRC guide.

Yes exactly. Also worth looking at if it’s worth going down the LTD co route. You will need an accountant to file accounts but lots more options to reduce tax especially if the mrs doesn’t work or is a lower rate tax earner.

If you don’t want to use your capital then lease purchase payments are also 100% tax deductible as well. Some very cheap rates on vans can be had.

A new fence might be tax deductible but your only saving around 20%. I.e. Fence cost 5k, profits reduced by 5k tax reduced by 1k. Sorry to detract

correct..... but if you're only liable for 5K, you don't pay any tax and your yard is now secure ;) ....... same with anything you spend your profit on, that attracts 100% exemption ..... better than 40% exemption  and you're adding value to your property (in theory-better than an open yard)

My L200 Warrior is great, well happy with the choice...2.4 turbo, plenty of grunt up the inclines towing 2.5t. She's and old girl on a 57 plate but done only 50K.
Can't speak for the rest as it's all i've had after vans.

So I had a drive in this today. Dealer let me loose in it all day which allowed me to put a tonne bag of gravel in the back and go off road round the field. Nice thing to drive although lacks some things my old D40 Navara had. I guess building things for a price means cutting back on some stuff. 360 camera is a welcome addition though. Dealer is very keen to sell me one and for sub £20k for a new but pre registered 18 plate - it is tempting.

only thing to be aware off about navara is limited tow capacity. on paper it can pull 3500kg but its train weight is 6000kg and it weighs over 3000kg naked.
