That looks like some head scratcher of a job there Rory !

Salcombe... need I say more!

We where originally only there for muck away. Long story short the Builders are a good crowd and tbh well ahead of the curve compared to others, crap access knocks lorry size down to 10t and low trees mean they can only really load up to 6' off the ground with a compact 5m telehandler. Hence Skips and myself.

A couple days into the job we actually had a look at the site, Nice crowd of lads and extremely professional (Fk knows why i'm there!) long story short I could see the 5t digger might wind up out of reach/capacity so we offered up the 7t machine if they needed it! Due to a suspected Gas main (Now Proved Dead by Wales and West) they could'nt reduce the middle ledge so we wound up onsite with the 7t machine and pole grab.

Definitely a contender site for most machines in a small space this year... But I can't say i'm not glad of the JCB to do the rehandling at the top... makes my life far easier than detaching the grab and climbing up!

I always find those tight little jobs be it a pain for access, keep you on your toes always something going on and you certainly feel like you’ve done something come the end ! Salcombe says it all 😂

Not rude at all grah. As with alot of the stranger gear we have it's inherited from grandfather's old business. Long story short my uncle who became partner in that business died back just after we purchased the first 175. All that gear is still owned by grandad but ultimately is ours. All got abandoned as we had to sort out other affairs like the transfer station closure etc. Now we're starting to sort some of it out.

Petter engine... Needs a new starter and some TLC but she will live again.

Great set up! Looks like a hell of a view in the background too

Is that furses 726 ? I haven’t forgotten those headstocks bloody weddings taken over here !

J.W Barons. Good freind of mine... I had a play in it the day it came off the Low Loader and what a machine it is. They are taking alot of Cat sales atm with good trade in ethics and a solid machine for far less than the Cat.

Furses one has been performing bloody well apparently. Mr Go Back rates it highly!

Next door loves me :ROFLMAO:

Benford 6 ton.... I was not intending to purchase another 6 ton or anything bigger than a 4 ton truck as that's the max I can fit on the lorry, and anything bigger I can hire in with road plates for under £200 a week  But on Saturday a mate asked if I wanted it, right price, with road plates and theirs a two month job for it.

Rush jobs for friends.

Speaking to James over the weekend, call had come in urgently for the 220 to go over to Dawlish on a shafting job. Sounded interesting and as has no doubt been realised by all on here I pick and choose where I am and what I do, so said i'd go if no one was free.

Rocked up Tuesday on the first available transport slot. Basically the shaft had stalled due to shitty geology and they needed to dig under the cutting ring (Steel ring under the concrete segments) in order to get it moving. The shafting grab can't dig under it hence us being required.

Two days of fighting, a few tricks and several hundred tons of force from the rams and it's moving again, back tomorrow to see it off as far as I can reach. Real cracking lads from Birmingham doing the shafting, been a long time since I truly dug blind but we got there!

X series is/has always been a lovely drive. JCB have yet again proven there back up as apparently a new set of tracks are on there way.... long story short this one came with seized links and the decision has been taken to give us a new set.... which is unexpected! Great backup from factory team.

How come it hasn’t been de-watered?

Geology is s**t. They do have dewatering in place, but there's running sand one side of the shaft and sandy mudstone shite the other side. It'll have to be dewatered eventually but for the moment it's keeping the muck from washing back in.

Never seen it done like that before🤔, usually de watering stops the muck/running sand from coming back in. Only ever had to let water build up once, but that was to “re-balance” the everything, due to houses been close to where we were, and if not levels not checked, you can start to cause subsidence.

Had similar conditions on one of the last shaft jobs I did. The circle you can probably just see in pic 4 ( bottom left) was a “well” that that started about 4 metres down.

We had to stop dewatering at about 14 metre....the “well” was still going down!! Pretty impressive.
Had to pour a temporary slab under water, which wasn’t the best, but actually turned out ok. All levels ended up been changed to because of the situation, but it turned out good. After that was poured, we could then put a sump in pump out then get mesh etc in for the final slab.
