current state of the road up the Grwyne Fawr road ('bout 4 miles from us) -- there were leccy cables running up the side of the road (Can just see the tarmac/road if you look hard )

had a troll up the Grwyne Fawr road this afters - get out the house for an hour and pick up some milk en route ..
took a few pix of the devastation ...
most places still have gennies running outside courtesy of national grid
must be 30 years since I was last up there ..
used to ride up in the forestry and on the Blacks most Sundays, if there wasn't an event on anywhere locally.
some bloody big bits of timber scattered about.
'sposed to be wild here again tonight/tomorrow

Beautiful day, between showers, in the far north! Hell of a wind though. Managed to find a patch of snow, and Culloden visitor centre had a fair bit of standing water.

South Westerly here though ... all that damage was a NWesterly / WNWesterly which we seldom get here ... basically tore down the valley from the dam - lot of those trees were 2+ft in diameter

the pix barely give you the scale of some of these downed beasts
there are a couple of ppl in the red circle
the root bowls on some of the trees must be 12-15 ft across

Flipping heck it's wet now. Flood warnings etc now.
Raining?
In Lancashire?
:ROFLMAO:

They soon took the snow warnings down, now it's just rain, rain, rain.

This is what happens at the bottom of our road:

20241123_153940[1].jpg

They've allowed it to do that for years, the problems start right at the top with some faulty drainage. It comes down the hill like this:

20241123_151238[1].jpg

Which is not as bad as it does get sometimes when it does that full width of the road. It tears bits tarmac up, also freezes which lifts more bits up as well.
Instead of fixing it at source they go patch the surface up every year.
This Autumn they came with a digger and dug the ditches out, but only at the bottom where the water ends up. They pulled the silt and soil out and banked it up by the side of the ditch instead of taking it away.

20241123_154036[1].jpg

If you look up you'll just see the tail lights as it goes up the hill.
It rained and washed much of it straight back in. Because they never controlled the water coming down it flooded again, cars went through causing waves which again washed the soil back in the ditches and pipes.
They know all this is happening as we've written to them with pics.

Looks like a lot of snow on the way to some areas. Met have issued an amber warning, haven't seen one of those since living up here.
4pm tomorrow 'til 6 am Sunday apparently .... then it's gonna p*ss down with rain to wash it all away  (and everything in its path at a guess)
