Got roof trusses coming Thursday for our extension had a few spare days but this weather has put a hold on things, weather meant to be getting slightly warmer but won't be enough to be 3 and rising and either way both bulk bags of sand have frozen like granite. Just moving trailers about and bit of maintenance is on the cards at this rate

All being well next week is looking to be 5+ day and night so can have a final push before Xmas! Hoping we can get off the scaffold and floor slab poured, will give us a good push starting back after new yr. making the most of frozen ground the end of this week and having afew days muck shift!

That's my plan tomorrow, make use of the frozen ground.

First time since 2013 I've got a jcb and driver hired in to get stuff done. (I only hired a machine a driver in 13 as it was way too far to tramp for a 1 day job)

why did you feel the need to replace it ? I test all mine September-ish and always keep cans of pre-mixed 50/50 for topping up with ... never put water into 'em ever, to top up with

That's exactly what I do with my 4 x machines ;)
They all have a strong solution of nice pink OAT anti-freeze.
Check them each year if I remember with a coolant hydrometer.
But IF they require top up (not usually) then I have a 50/50 mix standing by

For me its a matter of piece of mind and part of my servicing regime when I purchase a machine I automatically go through all of the oils and filters and the cooling system. Then when I get bored and decide to sell one it's a good selling point too!

I tested the antifreeze for strength and you never know what previous owners have put in the machines, I then give the system a flush out and put fresh anti freeze in mixed with correct deionised water.

The best coolant/antifreeze i've ever come across is Mazdas FL22, it's not cheap, but very good.
Mazda give it an 11yr life, but I've taken apart engines with 14yr old coolant still in them and they're pristine inside, £16 for 5L premixed.

-7 last night, left a bottle of homemade cider out and it was partially frozen this morning 🙄
Absolutely stunning day though, no wind, no cloud, just bright sunshine. You can actually sit out in it without too many layers on, very much like mainland Europe.
