Not mine. The MZR is the Duratec engine and a petrol, MZR CD was the diesel, both had common spectacular failures! Factory recommended oil changes are way over 10000kms or yearly, more likely 12k miles.
6 months or 10k km

Not around this side of the World, very different. That FL22 is good stuff though, I've never taken an MZR unit apart yet which has any coolant related issues (mainly corrosion) of any kind whatsoever. 10+ years old with the same stuff in and the internals are as clean and shiny as the day they were cast, it's fantastic stuff.
My plumbers Ford pick up, 21 plate with 90k miles. Wet belt decided to part itself. £10k bill for new replacement engine.
very often now't to do with oil change frequency ...... lots of 'em commit Hari Kiri after sitting on a forecourt for a month idle/un-started ... belt dries and diesWonder what his oil change regime was ?
so what exactly is this FL.22 coolant then? Not around this side of the World, very different. It's Mazdas own coolant, apart from that nobody knows. It's basically for the economical life of the engine/car as far as they're concerned.so what exactly is this FL22 coolant then?![]()
It's quite cheap to buy too, premixed is around £15 for 5 litres but postage is £10. Bought two tubs a couple of years ago for the rx7. Can also buy it as a concentrate ravenoil. My ranger seems to have a green/yellow tint to the coolant so suspect it might be similar but not looked into the coolant spec for itIt's Mazdas own coolant, apart from that nobody knows. I used to work on their cars and MZR engines a lot, I bought, stripped and rebuilt hundreds of the things so saw it all, broken and abused, partially serviced, never serviced, yet not once did I see any coolant related issues such as corrosion etc.
They give it a life of 11yrs yet I worked on cars and engines which had gone way past that and it came out crystal clear every time.
I'm pretty sure Ravenol is not the same stuff, note how they don't give it a life which all other manufacturers do. I once quizzed them on this and they refused to tell me. His question to my question was 'what does the car manufacturer recommend?' As far as he was concerned that was the answer which didn't fill me with confidence. It's quite cheap to buy too, premixed is around £15 for 5 litres but postage is £10. I had my van booked in for January for service and belt change as gone 60K mile so starting to chance it a bit with ford wet belt, I call to booked it in end of November but they couldn't do it until first week of January so I thought I'd just go for it but then last night at 6pm they called and left a message on the work phone to say they can't do it as having staffing issues and they removed it from their diary. Not just postponed but removedI asked my local garage to change the timing belt on my transit during its next service as it's approaching 50K miles (wet belt ) but they refuse citing they don't have the tools required for that job. Who runs a garage nowadays and doesn't have tool kits for ford engines![]()
Our garage is getting faster at them. About £1200+vat. Ford garage are £1500+vat Up in Bristol it’s about £600 inc parts for cash 🫣I had my van booked in for January for service and belt change as gone 60K mile so starting to chance it a bit with ford wet belt, I call to booked it in end of November but they couldn't do it until first week of January so I thought I'd just go for it but then last night at 6pm they called and left a message on the work phone to say they can't do it as having staffing issues and they removed it from their diary. Which is fine they can do what they want but why not come out and say it

young fella I used to teach and have been good friends with for decades runs a garage ... not keen to do them either as they're too prone to dying, if left standing too long and has no control over them once done. He also tells me there's a jag engine that he absolutely will not entertain working on - grenade with the pin out - oil pump/pressure issues and destroy them selves completely - if the oil light comes on, on the move, you cannot stop quickly enough before it self destructsI had my van booked in for January for service and belt change as gone 60K mile so starting to chance it a bit with ford wet belt, I call to booked it in end of November but they couldn't do it until first week of January so I thought I'd just go for it but then last night at 6pm they called and left a message on the work phone to say they can't do it as having staffing issues and they removed it from their diary. he has a long standing regular customer who bought a LR with one in - much against Neil's best advice .. had self destructed within a few months and an engine was seeeeeeeerious money .... think it had a bit of a self ignition episode not long afteryoung fella I used to teach and have been good friends with for decades runs a garage ... not keen to do them either as they're too prone to dying, if left standing too long and has no control over them once done. can't recall the name of the engine, but it sounded a pretty 'kin desperate thing to own and mega bucks to replace
just looked it up and it's the Ingenium engine
The ingenium engine is in many LR products. I have a vague memory that cars of a certain year with them are cheaper than the older ones that don’t have it!! I think the problem was the fueling system was diluting the oil if switched off during a regen.young fella I used to teach and have been good friends with for decades runs a garage ... not keen to do them either as they're too prone to dying, if left standing too long and has no control over them once done. So it was £1400 for the belt and oil belt all parts but they said turbo making a noise and want another 2 hours to investigate, which turned to another 4hours and parts for replacing a exhaust clamp which has now turned to a £4k estimate for broken stud removal on the exhaust manifoldOur garage is getting faster at them. Apparently they managed to remove 5 of the broken studs but will have to remove the cylinder head to get the last one removedholy crap it went in for routine work and turned out to more work than the van is worth !!!
Who the F said buying a transit was a good choice. We've had two in last year with major engine trouble now. Over £10k in engine work for old vans WTF
That's another pointless extra, not something I want or need. (My preferenceOne of mine has been gone for 6 weeks because the power fold mirrors won’t fold![]()
