I don't think I have ever seen drawings that haven't had steps and thickenings and widenings. Fairly standard to have window sampling or plate bearing tests or even just trial holes dug before a foundation design. Plus plate bearing tests and engineers design for the crane pad to lift the timber frame in.

Im guessing your work is bigger sites or more expensive builds than I'm used to?!

Not when I was doing house building work.
It was small developments from 1-5houses. With plot values from £350k - £1.2m
So real variety of stuff.
It was the crane companies asking for the crane pads being designed aswell.
And if you get into temporary works stuff then it's quite plane that you have to have an engineers design

Those are massive jobs by my standards! Big enough to pay for proper designs anyway

I've poured loads of foundations with no details at all, doing basic extensions usually with just a plan drawing.

It used to be that every council had their own rules based on local ground conditions, usually 1m - 1.2 deep, 450 wide single storey, 600 double. All sorted verbally with BC.

Quite rare to find that now though

my last year in school, Celtic cranes had 1564 Grove in the grounds moving some portaclassrooms ... put a leg straight through the boiler room ducting carrying all the hot water piping to the main building .... was lucky he'd just taken the bite and cabin just sat back on its pads --- change of underwear moment for the op. though
