Insurance costs

I've had to have separate policies for public liability and plant as always found any of the public liability wouldn't cover the value of the machines or was always return to base.

One question is does plant insurance cover the kit when it's on the trailer being moved between jobs/base

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
That's not great but then again how many folk comply with all the inspectors foibles and are 100% legit when the time comes.
We had 10k nicked through the cladding and they turned round and said did your alarm go off...no ok your not covered ....CCTV, dual comm serviced alarm etc .
obviously didn't have the right alarm configuration ... I knew if a mouse farted in the yard or the workshop, but set up to cater for the five free roaming 'team ratter', moggies and any other wildlife ... all about getting the right installers and system to suit your requirements

This one always worries me, if you right off the machine on the trailer in a crash or some arsehole nicks the whole lot when you stop for fuel(despite the vehicle being correctly locked of course) you can guarantee the plant/vehicle insurance people will put all their efforts into pinning it on the other policy....🤬🤬

commercial combined, tailored to suit your requirements ... whoever is doing yours is not taking a lot of notice of your specific requirements

Your broker needs to do his homework for you here, if you said you had alarms to whichever spec you state to them then it has to work as it's being used to reduce your insurance cost. If you don't have an alarm system or CCTV and you've started this to the insurance then I don't see how they can get out of it. They may increase your premium but I don't think they can use it as a get out of it's mentioned that you don't have it in the first place.

This is why I never told my insurance company about the tracker, pedal lock etc on my Defender, they were my business, not their's.
Of course not having an alarm/cctv might make some yards/sheds astronomical/uninsurable unfortunately.

And this shite/dead money/lost time is all part of the reason that theft should be a no chances given, remove them from the gene pool offence🤬🤬

I'm not sure I would go this far, there was a little Austrian guy with a short top lip moustache tried to clear out the gene pool in Germany a few years back and everybody seemed to hold it against him.
I mean if you happen across something left unattended in full view then more fool you, however if someone has it locked up out of site and you break in and take it then that would be no Bueno.

Personally taking away items of equal value from there life and if there is nothing of value..... fingers, feet etc., with immediate loss of benefits to the individual.

You'd not need to do many for people to start to take note.

a major cull on thieving bas*rds'd make life a lot easier for all the honest, hard working folk who have to suffer at their hands though .... surgical removal of hands at the wrists - with a scrap shear sounds attractive . ... if they continue, then go for the neck  .... let's be fair - we all pay a serious amount of bucks from our available funds because of these tw*ts in all manner of ways - not just directly 🤬🤬

Very valid point and decent broker should be that ...figuring out what you need for the specific application

In short there policy stated alarm must be activated for them to pay out when unmanned...
Tbf they were clever sods ....peeled cladding back ...had Tek guns etc...then stayed within pallet racking never set foot on floor and stayed above ground level..we since upgraded to better detectors but short of full beam system on .walls and seismic sensors it's not actually that easy to sort .
Rest assured when renewal time came around it was a short conversation....off...
Got a decent broker now who I trust and has a good rep for getting folk out of sticky situations..fights his corner...

was how I kept the bas*rds out of my place ... and had them in my acre yard too, strategically positioned to be broken, to get anywhere near my building .... dual beams're not that dear and bloody effective/nigh on fool proof, when it comes to wildlife ..... also had sound detectors indoors, which were very good

for machines on the road vs insurance for theft?

I have the road going machines on fleet policy 3cx, tractor, telehandler but everything else just insured for theft on my contractors policy
Everything is 3rd party with a road policy added for the road registered kit.. road part is about £200 per item.
