Had broker in yesterday afternoon at work to discuss our combined insurance, did the usual trying to short us and trim back figures for goods in trust and replacement value for plant and machinery and the likes, imho this makes it look like they are helping you in getting a cheaper premium but in reality you end up under insured and if worst comes to worse when you really need it you have given the insurance companies a get out clause. He reckons Aviva are the only real option and they are up in the region of 12% . This is not huge but will wait and see what his offer comes back at.

used NFU for the last few years of my biz life for all my ins. ..
engineering/biz combined, inc hot works, on/off site, public, product liability, vehicles, biz interruption, buildings, contents, stock, customers gear in hand, you name it-everything conceivable ...
were with Aviva for years, before calling them in ....
not only did they match them, but bettered the cover in a lot of aspects and saved me nigh on 90% off Aviva's premium ....
also had the facility to add/remove gear, easily, or give temp cover for particular jobs if needed
Aviva'd ripped me off for years claiming it was such a complicated set of policies, they were the only ones able to offer it. ...
turned out to be utter bollox.
have to say that the girls in my local office in Wormbridge are exceptional ... Aber were a bunch of knob heads:mad:

I find you have to shop around most years only one I don't have to is Adrian flux they seem always competitive I also find business insurance is quite often cheaper than private

Out of interest does anyone else insure their kit on 3rd party fire and theft only? Obviously I wouldn’t if anyone else was allowed to operate them. The price hike to full comp would literally buy me a new machine every 5 years anyway!

for machines on the road vs insurance for theft?

I have the road going machines on fleet policy 3cx, tractor, telehandler but everything else just insured for theft on my contractors policy

You would hope but I'm reliably informed that it's still not worth it
I know hindsights wonderfull but I find myself often thinking ...if I paid nowt and chucked the cash in a pot I'd be a lot better off.

I once heard a tale about Ferrari dealer up our didn't do anything more than he legally had to how true it was I wonder but made sense...

If I insured everything I would not have the liquid assets I have to enable the investment I put in annually.

I know of a local guy had a workshop full of gear, never had building or contents insurance, the whole lot burnt down. He reckons he saved £60k over the years by not having insurance but the rebuild and replacement value was more like £120k.

That's not great but then again how many folk comply with all the inspectors foibles and are 100% legit when the time comes.
We had 10k nicked through the cladding and they turned round and said did your alarm go off...no ok your not covered ....CCTV, dual comm serviced alarm etc .
