The Reform Party have a lot of work going on to try and build a grassroots party. Local elections need candidates and they need to act in a responsible manner.
A council member needs to ask themselve one question before any policy vote……..how does this BENEFIT the tax paying members of the authority.
If that can filter up the chain then this country stands a chance of real reform.

It’s almost sad really 35-36m people voted for labour a petition of 2m so far is a bit behind that currently. Democracy in action sometimes disappoints.

Let’s not forget this 6m petition to revoke brexit which in a beautiful bit of irony I bet a fair majority of the signatures on the labour out, would have opposed didn’t amount to anything.

Yep it's a valid point. Can't have it both ways.

What you are saying is right @Giles, but your figures are a bit wrong.
Only 9.8 million people voted for Labour (34% of the vote, with a 59.7% turnout of a 48.2 million electorate) compared to 17.5 million votes for Brexit.
I think 2 million signatures in a couple of days is pretty telling really, particularly when we have a very left-leaning press and msn in this country.

No chance . Labour won about 9m votes (less than in 2019 due to v low turnout unbelievably ! ) Tories about 7m iirc.

But fact remains this petition will achieve diddly squat except to send a message .
Edit ditto MB 🤭

I do however wonder how many people who voted for brexit have changed their minds v how many people who voted for labour have changed their minds.

Tbh I think the system is very broken. The parties should be disbanded.
Each MP should campaign on their own thoughts and ideals, moral values and so ontynf. And we vote for the local constituent that aligns with our values. Then hopefully how they vote in parliament reflects our thoughts.
I don't believe in the promises and the manifestos. As it encourages lying.

Who ever came up with the idea we wanted central governing anyway. The more removed the main governing becomes from the electorate the less likely they are to please anyone. To extropolate if instead there was a global head government (perhaps there already is) I'd wager 95% of the population would feel totally dissatisfied and hard done by.
Perhaps the power and fiscal control needs to be kept more local, less dilution.🤔

To be fair the district council system is vastly inefficient.
Yes you will loose any potentially personal touch, but a trimming down of clingers on in councils is greatly needed.
Could also look at paying some of them by the hour. Would save an absolute fortune

Imagine the puddle of tears when their pay check goes from 38 hours a week to 3 hours!

Nearly every council worker I’ve encountered have been incompetent, lazy, permanently sick with mental health or none testable something else, or just down right corrupt certain highway department for a county council beginning with D and sounds like barbyshire could teach the Costra nostra how to exploit money and take back handers.
