I saw this s**t show coming and made the desicion to sell out just after the election. We got the deal completed at 11pm last night with one hour to spare before the capital gains tax rule changed.

If I read it right there is one temporary get out clause regarding pickups. If the company ordered or had the vehicle before April 24 the new rules won’t apply until April 29.

Correct about the get out so I'm ok for the foreseeable. After that it's back to private ownership and probably something more fun

Problem with that pickup ‘get out’ is by April 29 pickup values will be bugger all! No problem I guess if they are leased for the next 5 yrs.

I can honestly never remember such a 5hit show they have only been in power for five months and the enconomy that was recovering is now shrinking again buisenesses letting people go inflation increasing again, It just a vindictive nasty government that has a problem with anyone that has some money, They firmly beleive we should subsidise the lazy crap that has never lifted a finger or done adays work in their life, Some of these families are now in their second generation of never working- yet they will all be there when they are 66-67 to collect their pension! That they have never contributed towards. We need a re-set quickly, I cannot honestly not see this bunch of incompetent amateurs lasting, They are going to cause untold damage to this country and its working population, so far they talked the talk to get into power but they certainly can't walk the walk. All the pricks that voted for them should now hold their heads in shame Leopards never change the spots !

I was teaching second (and third) generation's kids in the early 80s ... they're deeply entrenched in society now and will take some routing out to get any of them ever working again

Spot on. The electorate couldn't see past dwelling on partygate or Liz truss or any of Boris antics which were all over egged by the media and gave labour the foot in the door they needed.
I honestly think Sunak might not have been perfect but he had a good business sense about him and given the chance he would have turned out to have been far better for the country. Shame he was cut short really on the back of his predecessors.

If I remember rightly, we were all completely fed up with the previous government. And they had fallen apart with the infighting, shame because that same infighting took down Boris, caused the Liz Truss debacle (another crying shame because the ethos behind her policies would have done some of us here a real favour) But down it all went, Sunak took over and kept very quiet for the majority of his time as PM, and things were starting to look up slowly.

The real reason I think for the massive labour win is actually the Reform party. Who took so many votes from the Conservatives but didn't get the representation with the seats. Did Labour a right favour.

Another 4 years chaps. Feels like a long time but it will come around soon enough. The key is getting everyone behind the same candidate this time. It should be enough time for the Conservatives to reboot, get rid of the dead wood and come back swinging very much like Tony Blair did back in 97.
Until then, keep our heads down I guess.

On the pickup topic - I agree with the notion that in 2029 they will be worth nothing. I plan to keep my current one going until then. It will be 11 years old - if it hasn't earned its way by then - it never will! Do we know if this rule applies to king cabs? Technically they have more than 3 seats....

Fairly sure it doesn't apply to king cabs. Something about load capacity brings it into commercial sector.. i can imagine these will see something of a re-emergence if that is the case. Always thought they made more sense anyway tbh!

I think double cab pickups will still have a demand myself. Sure they won't carry the tax efficiency. But all those requirements for an off roader, family friendly and can put a few bales of hay in the back or the kids bikes- what really matches that? SUVs are not tax efficient nor are they even really a sensible choice most of the time yet never have more been sold.
