We changed supplier last year, part of the contract was we HAD to have a smart meter fitted, so arranged a time, engineer came out, said he's here to fit the smart electric and gas meter.... the what now.. yeah I'm fitting both, well first I knew but whatever, the saving on the monthly bill was enough to "justify" it to me. So he squeezed himself under the stairs for the electric meter, then I heard the noise, that suck of air between pursed lips, "can't fit the meter mate" it's the wrong configuration of" and at this point I stopped listening as I though "here we go I'm going to need X/Y/Z extra at a cost of whatever", he pops his head out and says " your in luck, I'm not allowed to touch that, pointing at the meter under there that is, at best, archaic, house built in 1934 meter probably never changed. "I'll fill out the relevant paperwork and take a couple of photo's, doubt you'll hear from your supplier again, and if I'm not fitting that one I can't be arsed to do the gas so we'll just leave that." Not heard a thing from my supplier not even to try to raise the tariff.

ours was changed from the old mechanical wheel to a digi job, possibly 7-8 years ago - that's as techy as I want

I have a spinning wheel meter,which due to solar panels , occasionally goes backwards ,how sad

We were approached about 7 to 8 years ago they came to fit a smart meter after we had told them many times no signal ,they came,they tested they said you got no signal ,there's no point ,goodbye

The meters build a mesh network, so there is a chance they will eventually get out to you!

Without a signal, the system probably defaults to the highest tariff.

I've said it before, but the smart meter is not for the customers benefit.

We had to bite the bullet and have a smart meter fitted when we wanted the car charging tariff. It is working so well we haven’t had a bill since the 4th of August!!

Nothing any company "offers" is good for the customer, no business in there right mind actually offers their customers a way to save spending money with them. They hope that 70% of people are to baffled with the spiel they use that you just shrug and let things carry on.
The best scam was direct debit, " oh don't worry sir/madam we'll just make it easy and take the payment every month for you, give with the one hand... now for the kicker, well it went up a bit last month, and in a couple of months it'll go up again, we'll send you an email to tell you, but it will be in amongst all the spam emails you just delete without looking at.
