A truck went on a similar ‘out of control’ jaunt for miles and miles down a motorway a few years ago, the driver claimed he couldn’t stop etc and the police had to hold traffic back and close the road until they somehow brought it to a safe stop.
I don’t recall the outcome but thought at the time that it just sounded like a bellend truck driver coming up with a bullshit story to gain attention.

I was talking to a chap yesterday who was telling me that some of the older electric cars are now having problems because the AP's built into them are now becoming out of date, So I suppose the manufacturers will have the owners by the short and curlies as the will be charging the owners for updates if they are even available. There are going to be alot more chargeable extras on these glorified milk floats in the future-those that think its going to be cheap motoring are in for a Shock in more ways than one!

The way I look at this is akin to mobile phone tech as its sort of the same thing with operating systems etc. So this year Apple will bring out iOS18 the newest operating system for apple products, this will make iOS15 redundant and no longer supported, you will still be able to use iOS15 equipment but there will be no support, iOS15 was released in 2017... 2017 let that sink in for a second, that's only 7 years, so your electric car could easily become " unsupported" in the same amount of time, so battery life may not be as bigger issue as people think, maybe it could be support for the operating systems that will make these cars redundant, the resale price of a battery car at 10 years will be near zero as who wants an unsupported 1/2 battery life car!

Iirc car manufacturers have to make enough spares for like around 10 years worth of after the production started so accident repairs through insurance and recalls can be done mandated by government
Like they have to guess how many crate engines to make as replacements as new ones would be different due to emissions won't fit in older cars

That's exactly what happens and is part of the reason spares are so expensive.
Once an engine / window winder / door handle etc. ceases to be current, a "spares estimate" is made and the production line output goes into a warehouse where it is stored for (say) ten years. The production line is then torn down and the specialized tooling destroyed. Doing a 'short production run' several years a model end simply isn't possible,

At the end of the required time, anything that isn't selling goes to landfill.

One of the biggest myths in the industry, there is nothing in legislation that says they have to.

when Renault ceased production of their R12 model range, they sold the entire line to Dacia, who then went on to produce them re-badged, IIRC, as the Denem and later as the 1320 ... had loads of R12s, back in their day and were bloody good little cars (at that time)

These electric cars & trucks use battery-swap recharging, offer immediate replacement if damaged, and roll out at prices down to $0.25 per hour, with no upfront fees... That's $6 a day plus electricity. The idea is potentially massively disruptive.

So ranger is in getting some bits sorted and have been given an e transit for the courtesy van.
125 miles to a full charge, have driven to Tamworth and will be a good 30 miles short of charge, so currently sat in mcds whiles it's charging.

Was near enough empty on the way up and will have not a great deal of weight on the way back.

Yeah that's pretty much what I came up with when found out the range this morning. Was hoping it was just an average or loaded figure but nope, that's a best case, running empty scenario.
Currently still waiting and seems to have added around 30 miles of charge so still got a bit of a wait as it's tight on the dash Vs the sat nav distance
