Someone like you could probably do nicely from it as well if you shared your projects and machinery/knowledge in videos. Theres a real interest in experienced people sharing their wisdom ;)
Well I'll take that as a compliment, thank you ....
it is one of life's regrets ... aside from all the lads I've 'brought on' over the years, I've no one to pass it all on to ... when I go it'll go with me ... a lifetime's experience - gone!

would not know where to start
I'd start with a camera, and then something like OpenShot which is a Adobe Premiere clone but free. Using that you can chop up your video and drag the bits round. It's not *hard* - I can show you how if you wanted to film something.

We get cheeky fcukers in past us wanting to lift stuff out the skip and act like they are doing us a favour by taking stuff from the skip, I'm not saying there is huge value in scrap metal but there is value. Be sure to offer to pay, you might get stuff FOC just don't go expecting.

Most places will have a scrap bin....offer them some dosh, relative to scrap price of course
used to have a couple of 'artists' used to come in to me .... and loved the weird stuff in the bins .... had a bathroom scales and sold it out to them at scrap plus 10% / Kg ...
anyone wanting stuff from me off cuts racks ... the scales was the easiest way to price it ... rather than working metre-age on small lengths...just weighed it and charged by weight. ..... soooo much easier .... had a comprehensive price list for bar lengths and per foot/ metre for longer requirements (y)

I've often done this at the stockholders too - they have a scrap bin as they do a lot of cut to length stuff, so anything that's not saleable length gets thrown in there. Handy for practice steel etc.

sadly most of the stock holders I used to deal with are quite distant .... closest is 30 miles away - -one was in sunny Scunny ... 's why i am happy to give me mate down the road over the odds, for odds an' sods -- convenience(y);)

I've been watching adam savage's videos from during the lockdown and he's given up on the fancy camera and is now shooting with a front facing camera phone because it's easier and it's quite watchable
