yeh I know Dave ... issue is seeing as you dig - lot going on in that hole and it's bloody hard digging through the crap backfill, but a sump/pit is the way forward - or wait 'til it stops p*ssing downAnother great report Gra and I feel your pain buddy
Sorry but you will need to go much deeper to get a decent pump pit and room to work etc...
And to investigate those cables the skilful use of a CAT and Genny will pay dividends
Those Aldi (and Lidl) pumps are useful to have - we 3 similar here on standby duty.
What's the other side of yer tarmac driveway and is there maybe a low spot on your lovely lawn?
I'm thinking about digging a hole then thrust boring across to get some drainage going.
If possible it will give you drainage to be able to work.
And then maybe you can factor in a permanent solution to drain to water away from your vulnerable services?
And it's gonna piss down here tomorrow as well
I can actually access both ends of the cables (least the ones I can see the ends of outside) so metering them isn't an issues and only one is connected - rest are tails under the kitchen cupboard unit.
I'm impressed with the pump TBH - think it's a 'gardenline' unit.
yon hole is a full length roll out of the layflat at IIRC 20m to the edge of the lawn ..... pushing a tube through our ground here'd be a total non-starter
an well see me extending the hole - again - dealing with the initial issue, then banging a plate cover over it for several months, 'til the ground water issues aren't, then see what I can do about it all. Biggest problem is the ground here is rammed full of opportunities for water to track fissures, springs to surface and sinks for it to disappear into
just gonna have to keep 'struggling on' to get below / under it all -- I'm at circa 600 down ATM and need to get another 150-200mm lower yet - " Patience is a virtue " as the old adage goes
the hole is currently 'holding its own at circa 6-7" in the bottom - **** knows where it's going - but it is - probably where it's been disappearing to for a very long time I've probably covered its escape route, disturbing the ground and it's now re-established it - will see if i can see any clues, Friday, for stirring it all up again
haven't been further than the back door for a smoke today - been 'kin grim - did have a major tidy up in the office though, un-assailed by Pam who's been out with her mate, most of the day

pretty sure I did first off Shaun- was certainly coming out of it - and having disturbed the joint back into line-ish it's now only a weep - but - I think the misalignment has allowed the last 20+ feet to ingest crud through the joint and think it is blocked - will back pressure/flush it to clean it out - 's only reason I can think of for the total lack of H2O in it?
... had intended to try splitting that push fit - see what comes down it then cap it and work back to the joint from the house end - not really got enough length exposed yet though, to make it an easy proposition to fix and really want to get to the original bottom / below it all and clear around it for some flexibility - hence, bigger hole required the alternate IBC supply set up is working well, so I'd rather finish all the 'dirty bit' and not have to fanny about working carefully around a restored set up - bad enough as it is, with all that's in the hole as well

How much pipe is between where you have it outside and where it comes up through floor inside ? Anywhere else you could take a supply up near a bathroom or utility , that could then still be piped into cold water system so it just feeds it from a different point . sadly not Vin ... think clearing the last 20ft of the supply line is the least of the effort ATM ...
plus it has to then go through the filtration and UV system, before returning into the house's system

well I'm on me ninth barrow load of sh1t out the hole ... had to take another 15" of blacktop up yesterday - **** it - trying to make sense of those cables
and WTF this one loops back around on itself -- pretty sure it's where some tosser has just looped it/wound it up
and what bloody wazzock ties the end of a cable to a piece of concrete with baler twin and then ****ing buries it FFS
the bloody ground water is still 'killing me ' and progress
it's very slow going, but quietly getting down to somewhere near the bottom, where I want to be ... dragged some of me tower scaff deck boards out to cover up the hole for the night, yesterday
and this is the rubbish pile out of the hole so far
Pam's mate called by Thursday evening - could I find her a N/S mirror for her FIL's Freelander 2, she's had to borrow, as her VW T-Roc threw a hissy and went all 'limp' on her earlier in the week .. and she'd destroyed the mirror in a hedge ... local factors wanted 400 quid for one
ten minutes on Ebay ... one bought for 50 quid - job sorted
arrived yesterday afternoon, packed within an inch of its life, fair play
was just about to get going this morning and she arrived --" is it much of a job to fit Gra ?? " ... 5 min.s on you tube and I'm ripping the door card off her motor
she did a good job of tatering it
when I pulled the old one apart after, there wasn't a single mounting screw inside it, left intact - bollo-ed - God knows what she'd hit ?
new one was absolutely mint ... " shall I roll it in some mud, 'fore I fit it Gill ... 's gonna look a bit 'new' "
glad I did the you tube thing first-- two of the screws'd've taken some finding otherwise... half hour and job did .. took Pam with her to help her decorate her tree and have a bit of a square up in her place ... so no interruptions for several hours ... and i returned tothe task in hand
the subby pump's been excellent, but did have to pull it apart this afters - got a sharp little rock jammed, that just wouldn't clear without a strip down ... now i've seen how it works, I'm not so circumspect about it sucking up the tish
of which there is a lot .... slowly getting down to the depth I want to get to but these cowboys'd lobbed some pretty big rocks back in their original trench together with God knows how many tins/bottles/crud ... lost count of how many pop bottles/cans i've found ...... yet another can lurking on top of the plumbing ...

had to dismantle it (such as the 'build' was) and get busy straightening the corner out .. not much to it but think you'd struggle to buy the component parts for what the package cost ... scratching my head a bit, as just where to put it, mostly for where to;
'exit' the exhaust, out the box
ditto the combustion air intake
and a suitable location to put it, for re-filling and blown air direction-ing for best results ...
I know where I'd like to put it, just don't know how effective it'd be there though, but sounds like producing heat isn't an issue
Serge bought his on a recommendation from one of his friends - asked him how the heat is controlled/regulated (thermo cut in / out, or what) .. says he just opens the door if he gets too hot ... sounds like a plan

no intentions of cutting them Dave ... just want to tidy them up -- one has been utilised for powering all the lights I installed in the stone faced wall up the drive-- there're two more tails under the cupboard unit in the kitchen and if I can determine what's what, might use them for other things ...Don't forget that with those cables - a CAT and Genny is you friend to trace them out.

decided to bite the bullet and disconnect the water line - see what if anything came out (seeing as it was leaking at one point) so did .... and not even a drip out of it I know t'other end has 1500litres of water behind it and free flowing from the tank
capped off the line from the hole to the house and stuck a ball valve on the incoming line (which was 'empty' -- or blocked ?)
's gonna need a back flush for sure, but need help for that and Pam's out blitzing the shops with her mate, so made up some purging/back flushing lines in readiness for an assault on it tomorrow - will bang 1.5 bar of water up it from our pumped supply, (currently IBC fed), after disconnecting it from the tank's connection/ball valve and station Pam up there to see what (hopefully
) comes out of it ?? -- pump should have enough head to do it, provided whatever is causing zero feed isn't 'stuck'? ... hence the backflush, rather than try and purge it down from there.
also do the line from the house to the hole with the same, just to flush it out
still have a desire to meet the original perpetrators of this bollox up ....

looks like they chewed 'em to length ..... would've been lucky to have gotten a seal if it'd been in a straight line, let alone the kicked affair that it is/was

Been a CBA day - didn't have a good night - made the mistake of laying on my front to reach into yon hole to prat about with the pipe connections and PO-ed my spleen/pancreas/gall bladder/whatever - should remember, I can't lie on a hard surface need some padding under me .. and it's been a pretty grim/cold/dank day here, anyway, much as forecast, so had a chilled day ...

Oi oi - thats exactly what I want to do with my Barn/workshop in the very near future
Got a pile of 150mm Celotex seconds waiting to go in between the purlins. They are 6x2 set about 5ft apart.
Was thinking of stuffing them up there and covering with OSB or thin ply......
