Hope it's not one of those Asian buggers 🤔 ...... perhaps you ought to capture it for a closer look 😁

had one fly into the house the other night as I opened the door  ... and took a lot of interest in me ... got one of those little tennis racquet shaped zappers (the ones that hurt if you touch 'em  ) grabbed that and he went down like a sack o' tish (y) ... better result than yer average fly ... stopped him dead ... the flies go down but spin round in circles on the floor :ROFLMAO:
don't think I'd take my chances on it being as effective on the big bugger though :oops:
Probably like punching Mike tyson he'd feel it then get annoyed

I was workin for my old man in the summer hols of 1992 re-roofing (humping slates) the timber mill on the Cragside estate when I had my first encounter with a Hornet. The rugged old fellas I was working with took great please out of my unease!! My memory of it is of Buzard like proportions 🤣

lil' Jake's overcoat had finally arrived  ... thanks Ollie (y) .... together with the original safety pin for the QH :) .. and a spare fan belt :giggle::giggle:

WP_20230807_15_13_47_Pro.jpg

not unboxed the cover yet ... based on today's weather I should have .. been some bit wet here today. particularly for a day out with Russ in Pontrilas timbers production yard ....
shutdown (sort of) for them and have been spending the profits BIG time on new buildings, gear and replacements for a lot of aging production line gear.
15 minute drive for me and got to site at 7.45 as requested .. parked up as instructed and could see Russ's Lieb, in the distance ...
WP_20230808_07_52_14_Pro.jpg

with his favourite rig on ... the fly :giggle::cry:, stripping the roof over what had to come out later .....
rang him and asked what he wanted me to do ... sit tight and await the arrival of 'the main event', go intro my self to Matt .. who is apparently rather rotund ...
sure enough, bang on eight o'clock in rolls a 150 Lieb.
WP_20230808_08_08_08_Pro.jpg

used to do a lot of cross hire for Russel Christopher's dad, Mervyn, who was a real gent. Driver appeared from a cabin across the lorry park and said to him " From the description I've had from Russ, you're not Matt " which produced a big grin from 'J' (Jason), who said, " Nah he's on my 300 Grove today, local ... wanted an early finish :giggle: .. this was mine, 'til I got stuck on the new 300 - hate it, ... this is a joy to operate in comparison " " Russ'll be up shortly with 'a plan' once he's gotten the guys off the roof. "
could see Russ crack his boom down .. 'bout an hour later  and we set J up where he was, to offload two lumps ... Russ was not gonna pull the fly off for two lifts, only to have to put it back on again and we couldn't get J into place 'til they'd fannied about with what had to come out (they could not organise the proverbial in a brewery there - I'd have had it ready to fly, before even pulling the roof sheets )
J produced a remote from the cab ..... no peering over the cab looking at the hook block to drop it off its capture ... stand beside it and do it remotely  .... saves pulling the bumper off, or having the windsreen, re-attaching it :cool: :giggle:
WP_20230808_09_48_21_Pro.jpg

hook off and round ..... press a button and the machine mounts/dismounts its own ballast .. all 26.3 tonnes of it (y) (Russ's Lieb has to be operated very carefully mounting/dismounting his ballast - he's green )

WP_20230808_09_48_28_Pro.jpg

this and t'other one on top of it were a bloody tight fit in that roll top curtain-sider .... one out and onto a truck ..... " er where's the truck for t'other one " " Still got the first one on it .. they're trying to get it into the building it's going in " (with two tele handlers :oops:o_O ... 6t and 14m x 2.3m ... hour and a half later they came back for this one (with the huge fleet they have, you'd have thought they could've managed a second flatbed - cheaper than a crane standing !!)
WP_20230808_10_31_17_Pro.jpg

Anyway .... got it on and gone wrapped the 150 and headed to where it was required ...
WP_20230808_11_48_46_Pro.jpg

half an hour later we found the keeper of the keys .. to the bloody van, which was NOT supposed to be anywhere near our work area .. sadly the 150 has one fixed driven axle, so won't crab :( so bit of a juggle to get it where we wanted it ... guesstimates on what had to come out ranged from 5 to 8 tonnes .. no one had any idea ... Russ reckoned 3-ish, I reckoned closer to 2.5t, after I'd had a shufty ... had to cater for the 'given' weight so 45m of reach gave J, 7.9t
WP_20230808_12_06_54_Pro.jpg

WP_20230808_12_31_23_Pro.jpg

any closer'd have had the boom's luffing cylinder on the edge of the roof
WP_20230808_13_46_16_Pro.jpg

radios on and dropped the chains into the building .... Russ had disappeared across site to deal wit the install of the two lumps, we'd offed earlier with a combinations of a gert hiab, he'd hired in and a couple of tele handlers to juggle them up onto their pedestals under half a dozen leccy trays :(o_O:censored:......

we've quite a few about this year, but there's one monster in particular has taken a liking to flying in and around my 'tool box' ..... I make a quick exit when he arrives ... haven't had a clear enough swipe at him yet and I am NOT risking not getting the bugger first time :(
Good squirt of brake cleaner does the job on any flying pest

was painful watching these blokes with a gas axe .... taken them most of the day to chop this out .. and still struggled to break it free from their supposedly clean/clear cuts
I put two ton of tension on the chains whilst they 'played' with it ... and quietly increased it once they claimed it was free ... finally 'leapt free' with 5t on the dyna ... and showed 2.7t when everything settled down after it'd jumped about 3ft in the air ... bloody good job it was under such a big solid lifter

WP_20230816_07_49_43_Pro.jpg

just about to go to bed last night and thought I'd just check my FB PM,s "What yer doin' tomorrow Gra?" at 7.30 yesterday evening ... five to one and he's online ... "Pontrilas? What and when?" so raced round last night to get 'supplies' for the day sorted and got to bed about half one !!!! ..... Pam snored all bloody night .. up at half three drinking coffee, having a fag on the patio and considering sleeping elsewhere ... reckon I got about 2 hrs :( ...
on site for 07.45 ... 12t lump to go back in after a rebuild - bark stripper - fiercesome thing.
WP_20230816_08_20_13_Pro.jpg

those baulks it's sat on were 18" square
quick re-reeve onto 5 falls ...

WP_20230816_08_21_53_Pro.jpg

moved the lump to the side of where he wanted to be sat and squeezed into spot ..... got a bit busy then so sadly no pix of the lift, other than it sat in place
WP_20230816_09_00_57_Pro.jpg
before lifting all the 'guarding' (solid steel walls), back around it ..... job and knock, as they'd got sod all else needed our attention this morning .. back here at half ten :giggle:
was a much easier day than yesterday and certainly worth getting out of bed for this morning :giggle::cool:

A 'certain' crane hire outfit from Leominster used to do all the work here - and took the piss mercilessly :(... they did this with a 150 tonner, last year (at considerably serious cost)... Russ got in when asked to come quote a job, that'd been extortionately priced ... and did it for 30% of the quoted figure with a bit of 'lateral thinking' .. has been doing their work ever since :giggle:....... needless to say he is not very popular with said other outfit :) .. 15 min.s down the road for me when I'm wanted :giggle::love:

I will never let her talk me into letting the grass beside the drive grow again .... the kids may have had fun in the runs/pathways I mowed in it but the price was way too high ...:rolleyes:

it is going to take a lot of doing to get it all looking like it once did/as the edge strip does  ... completely bollo-ed what was once lawn quality grass and easy to keep on top of once a week. .....collected half of it yesterday ... now faced with the rest of it ... piles of it :( ... had to mow it twice -- first go with the deck reasonably up .. then down a couple of notches .. after I'd pulled the 'sileage' out the way, to stop the deck choking up ... next one's gonna be a 'nap of the earth' cut job to try and rag all the long stringy crap out ..... not/far from, a happy Druid ... took a long time to get that bank looking good ... it's now ****ed

I found the new toy for the druid although it is a little track to get it home,
you do not get much further north in the viking Land
Although the biggest problem wood probably be to hide it from Pam 🤫🤔

major **** up ...
Russ on the dog an hour ago

He put a big saw in a couple of weeks ago ....
with the 150, through the roof...
engineers came to commission it mid morning and said "where's the flywheels then??" 6.5t of saw, 1.5t each of flywheels x 2no.:rolleyes:o_O:censored:
they're busy stripping the wall off the building this afters, so we can take it out of the wall in the morning ...
fit one flywheel to the saw outside -- no room indoors ..
lift the second fly wheel into a pit...
dangle the saw next to it, fit it, then put the saw back in place ....
Russ reckons he should be good for 11.5t on the reach.
gonna be a busy day :giggle:

well that didn't go as planned ..... was on site for 07.40 - no traffic .. rang Russ to see where he was as he'd been there since 07.00, doing a quicky somewhere on site and true to his word he came past me five minutes later heading for where we had to work for the day.
They'd put in a brand new stoned roadway for him and fair play it didn't budge a mm. ... backed him up to building, roughly where we reckoned he needed to be and swung the boom round for a test, then had to shift her over a foot - fly jib just catching on a purlin cleat, to get exactly over the lift point and still have room to slew it out ... levelled up, harness on, clambered up and slung the lump ready then dived in the cab for a cuppa and a crafty fag -- no smoking site :( - we both do
one of the 'lads' who were also 'tending' to this job said we'd got at least an hour as the Italian engineer commissioning the machine would be late .. breakfast at his digs wasn't available 'til after eight :ROFLMAO:
We'd barely finished and 'Antonio' arrived ... ran through what had to happen and then tells us that we'd not be assembling the flywheels into place today ... machine out - without disturbing its sub chassis - land it on the deck and then Antonio had to grout and concrete in the sub.s, so ... can you come back Saturday? .. Why he couldn't grout and concrete the sub.s with the machine in situ was beyond me ... could've got it all done in one day then .. but hey ho we were getting a day out of it ... and an extra one too :giggle:

still none the wiser as to what this thing does?
Russ was expecting this to be his last day here .... and has a boat to do Saturday morning .. might have to be an early one .. or a later start here ..
by 10.15 we'd pressure washed the Lieb off in the lorry wash bay -- lance/side each  ....... covered in dust and glass -- they'd smashed his front top cab screen last week, letting a lump touch it and went off like a gun ... new one paid for and fitted the day after the 150'd been in ...
and we were ready to roll ...
left me motor there, and followed him back home with his van -- save faffing about for him and I was expecting to be out for the day anyway (and was being paid for it :giggle:) no odds to me and Russ was well happy ... got back to Russ's parked up
grabbed an empty gas bottle off his MIG and was going to drop me then head into Hereford ... rent free one, so said I'd come with him to see where it was in town and then drop me later.
Hadn't gotten 5 miles and the van goes into limp, then stops :mad:
cranked it over and away it went, but management light still on:( ... carried on ... two miles later down it went again ......and again a couple more miles down the road ... had about seven stops, by the time we got to the gas place on Rotherwas IE .. including stopping in the gateway to the gas sellers
Russ'd replaced the mass air flow on it a few weeks ago, which'd given similar symptoms...brand new OE Bosch ... played with the connector a couple of times but hadn't cured it o_O:unsure:

anyway .. 40 quid for a 10kg bottle later  and we were off .. sod heading into Hereford with the van like it was and headed back to his ... after three, maybe four stops, with about a mile and a half between, it suddenly stopped doing it and drove fine :censored::unsure: ... weird ... wondering if the hot wire had picked up summat that was pissing it off and cleared ... he was gonna put his OBD scanner on it this afters and see if it had 'anything' to say, before clearing the management light.

had a coffee at his and then headed back to Pontrilas in his RR Vogue :giggle: .. has had it 8 years and only put 32 k on it ... he's never stationary long enough to drive it :giggle: ... says to me on the way back ... " I'll drop you at the gate ..not taking this in there .. they'll accuse me of making too much money " :giggle: ... I used to be the same .. always ran older vehicles, or people'd accuse you of charging too much ... P38 was just three year old, when I bought it and the comments I used to get were constant ... :( ... never had the issue with me SD,s or classic RR,s

anyway ... Pam was well surprised to see me at lunchtime :) ... ate me sarnies and then finished off raking the last of the haylage harvest .... ready to give it a 'nap of the earth' Dane-ing, which I'd gotten done by four
WP_20230816_15_45_52_Pro.jpg

WP_20230816_15_45_40_Pro.jpg

this is the pile of 'haylage' in a circa 5ft deep 'gap' behind the semi-dead hedge ... will rot down to very little in a couple of months and help to fill in/build up the ground on that bank
WP_20230817_15_05_55_Pro.jpg
... looked like it was gonna lash down at any moment, but still hasn't despite ever darkening skies
WP_20230817_15_48_22_Pro.jpg

gonna have to start again with the rake o_O .. but won't be as bad as the first lot
WP_20230817_20_26_55_Pro.jpg

the remaining long grass is a strimmer job, to get down to a mow-able level .. that bit there's 'exciting', when it's the usual mow-able length .. sod trying that with the Dane .... 'least I got the rest of it down to 'the nap' before tomorrow's forecast 25+ mil., 24 hr downpour of rain:oops: ... that bank'll be soggy as, for some time ... still pretty iffy in places and the herring bones have give a few spots some grief ..... we've had SOME downpours of late :(

found this fella scuttling around the kitchen floor last night ..... we get some pretty big spiders occasionally, but haven't seen a really big one for ages .. disposable lighter for some scale :giggle:

one big mutha spider :giggle::cool: .....
don't anticipate being able to do a lot tomorrow  other than keep out of the poxy rain
