do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
what a diabolical day ....
did however encourage me to do a few indoor things, I've needed to get around to .....
spent some time this morning extricating my UPS from under the desk and everything else that'd gotten dropped on top of it ....
power flicked on/off the other morning ...
and everything went off
been making noises at me for a while saying - "replace my batteries", which I've not paid much attention to as the power's been faultless, of late -- but i had ordered some and were sat awaiting my attention.
couple of you tube vid.s later and I was 'gen.ed up' on the process
got it out, had just started at it, on the kitchen table and Serge arrived for a cuppa ...
been servicing a genny, down the road, so the process was much slower than if it'd had my full attention.
got it sorted - eventually and had a major re-vamp of all the cabling, lurking under my 'puter desk -- ripped out a few surplus items - old power supply for now defunct cabled router, couple of ethernet cable and a few other extraneous power units no longer in use ...
all run off the UPS ..
which feeds a 4 way anti-surge bar with multiple 3 way plugs in each socket -- 's a right 'rat's nest, screwed to the underside of the desk together with all the cabling to screens, etc. from the 'puters.
re-jigged/juggled its position under there and replaced some stuff 'out of sight'
job done - been charging its little head since and back up to 100% ...
's not done too badly - bought in Aug '20 and has saved no end of 'power crashes' since - 86 quid for a new pair of batteries, so'll hopefully be good for another 5+ years
then
had a good look at these diesel heater things that you've all been extolling the virtues of later on and by coincidence Serge has recently bought one for his garage -- and really rates it ........ so
I bought this one for 70 quid
and a power supply for it elsewhere for 24 quid
and saved meself 25 quid on all the 'package sellers'
let's hope their promised delivery dates hold good ....
have had some atrocious fairy tale delivery dates lately ..
next day taking a week / 48hr taking 9 days .....
really ****ing annoying - especially when you choose a 'speedy delivery' often costing more than other sellers and it just doesn't happen.
been waiting for some plumbing bits an' bobs to tackle the latest issue at Chez Druid
......
which is why I hauled that IBC out
"never rains but it pours"

having finally, with the help and some bits, very kindly donated, by Stroppy monkey, gotten on top of my ongoing boiler's cantankerous behaviour, (with a fault that Ben 'd never come across before), the next thing to play up has been our water supply.
our pump is fed from a 1500ltr storage tank several hundred yards away, 'praps 30-40 feet above it in altitude and has always had a good feed to it, but the last few weeks it's been 'poorer' than usual.
we've had what I considered to be a 'seasonal' spring at the edge of our drive, 'bout 20 feet from our door for some time ...
appears when the ground is very dry, during warmer months and usually disappears once the wet weather returns, 'til next year.
this year it's not disappeared and has in fact been more of a 'producer' ...
was outside a week or two ago when Pam'd been running the pump / water indoors and yon 'spring' started gurgling and disappearing back down the small aperture it'd created and I thought funny!!

....
tried it a few more times and I thought F**k !!
got me divining twigs out and sussed the route of the pipe (25mm MDPE) down the drive to the house and was pretty damned close to where said water was appearing from
so I'd planned to drop an IBC alongside the pump housing (which has the filtration and UV system also) ...
connect the feed pipe to it on a ball cock and then feed the outlet of that to the pump's pick up to give it a decent head and bunker to restore continuous uninterrupted feed to the pump, as it's now sucking air with the water and p*ssing the pump off -- there's flow, but insufficient to keep up with the pump's demand .....
then sort the issue when the weather gets better next year/at a later date
.
I'm assuming there's an in line connector given up the ghost, as I really can't see the MDPE splitting underground and I doubt the run is in one continuous length from the storage tank right to where it surfaces in the house -- 's several hundred yards
I'm reasonably confident that there's enough flow to keep an IBC filled, it's just the demand from the pump is too great, when run for more than say a minute or two to re-pressurise the system and pressure vessel, 'cos it's now drawing air as well as wetness and really upsetting the pump. (and me !!
)
we'll live with the leak the, for now - storage tank up top is full to the brim - looked yesterday ..
so that's me next challenge ... find the bloody pipe, under our nice, unadulterated, tarmac drive

'sposed to be dry tomorrow so got some stuff to do -
Like move an IBC (after I've emptied it - don't really want to 'ditch' 900 litres of water) so'll give the car a good pressure wash off (not been done in weeks)and anything else that needs it, to empty the IBC.
been waiting 10 days now for a new ball cock - got a few used ones here, but'd like a shiny new one for our water supply - am furious it's not arrived yet and getting no responses from the sellers... might just go get one tomorrow and cancel his order - TW*T
need to empty the IBC as what's in there has been sat in it for years - although it is crystal clear, like it was filled yesterday - and'll get filtered and UV-ed - yer just don't know - even after a boiling in the kettle.
plus I CBA to carry it down here with the 'Drema .. so much easier to handle empty
If the plan is successful, the leak'll wait ... and if I have to I'll get the 9" out with a diamond disc and cut out a nice neat rectangular slab to dig a hole in, that I can then make a frame and plate cover for, to concrete in place in hopefully the right place - will start small-ish and see if I can trace the flow
if it is as I suspect, an in-line-er gone south, it'll take some swapping, so maybe have to put some 90,s in and dog leg it, 'praps even put a stop cock in the dog legged line, as currently no way of turning off the riser in the kitchen, short of stopping it off at the 1500ltr tank and waiting for several hundred yards of line to empty. If I can get it right, can put it all in a lid-ed chamber

's just the wrong time of year to be pratting about with it

on an 'up' note, I did get an 1800 quid refund from the 'blood suckers' yesterday (out of £8k I calculate they owe me)
did I want it BACS or a cheque - thought BACS of course - much easier - big mistake ... they went into the ins and outs of a ducks ar*e with online access directly to my bank accounts. if you get a refund ask for a cheque
