do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
what a diabolical day ....
did however encourage me to do a few indoor things, I've needed to get around to .....

spent some time this morning extricating my UPS from under the desk and everything else that'd gotten dropped on top of it ....
power flicked on/off the other morning ...
and everything went off

been making noises at me for a while saying - "replace my batteries", which I've not paid much attention to as the power's been faultless, of late -- but i had ordered some and were sat awaiting my attention.

couple of you tube vid.s later and I was 'gen.ed up' on the process

got it out, had just started at it, on the kitchen table and Serge arrived for a cuppa ...
been servicing a genny, down the road, so the process was much slower than if it'd had my full attention.

got it sorted - eventually and had a major re-vamp of all the cabling, lurking under my 'puter desk -- ripped out a few surplus items - old power supply for now defunct cabled router, couple of ethernet cable and a few other extraneous power units no longer in use ...
all run off the UPS ..
which feeds a 4 way anti-surge bar with multiple 3 way plugs in each socket -- 's a right 'rat's nest, screwed to the underside of the desk together with all the cabling to screens, etc. from the 'puters.
re-jigged/juggled its position under there and replaced some stuff 'out of sight' ;):giggle:
job done - been charging its little head since and back up to 100% ...
's not done too badly - bought in Aug '20 and has saved no end of 'power crashes' since - 86 quid for a new pair of batteries, so'll hopefully be good for another 5+ years

then

had a good look at these diesel heater things that you've all been extolling the virtues of later on and by coincidence Serge has recently bought one for his garage -- and really rates it ........ so

I bought this one for 70 quid

and a power supply for it elsewhere for 24 quid

and saved meself 25 quid on all the 'package sellers' ;)

let's hope their promised delivery dates hold good ....
have had some atrocious fairy tale delivery dates lately ..
next day taking a week / 48hr taking 9 days .....
really ****ing annoying - especially when you choose a 'speedy delivery' often costing more than other sellers and it just doesn't happen.

been waiting for some plumbing bits an' bobs to tackle the latest issue at Chez Druid :( ......
which is why I hauled that IBC out

"never rains but it pours":mad:

having finally, with the help and some bits, very kindly donated, by Stroppy monkey, gotten on top of my ongoing boiler's cantankerous behaviour, (with a fault that Ben 'd never come across before), the next thing to play up has been our water supply. 🤬🤬

our pump is fed from a 1500ltr storage tank several hundred yards away, 'praps 30-40 feet above it in altitude and has always had a good feed to it, but the last few weeks it's been 'poorer' than usual.
we've had what I considered to be a 'seasonal' spring at the edge of our drive, 'bout 20 feet from our door for some time ...
appears when the ground is very dry, during warmer months and usually disappears once the wet weather returns, 'til next year.
this year it's not disappeared and has in fact been more of a 'producer' ...

was outside a week or two ago when Pam'd been running the pump / water indoors and yon 'spring' started gurgling and disappearing back down the small aperture it'd created and I thought funny!!:unsure:o_O ....
tried it a few more times and I thought F**k !!

got me divining twigs out and sussed the route of the pipe (25mm MDPE) down the drive to the house and was pretty damned close to where said water was appearing from :(
so I'd planned to drop an IBC alongside the pump housing (which has the filtration and UV system also) ...
connect the feed pipe to it on a ball cock and then feed the outlet of that to the pump's pick up to give it a decent head and bunker to restore continuous uninterrupted feed to the pump, as it's now sucking air with the water and p*ssing the pump off -- there's flow, but insufficient to keep up with the pump's demand .....

then sort the issue when the weather gets better next year/at a later date
.
I'm assuming there's an in line connector given up the ghost, as I really can't see the MDPE splitting underground and I doubt the run is in one continuous length from the storage tank right to where it surfaces in the house -- 's several hundred yards
I'm reasonably confident that there's enough flow to keep an IBC filled, it's just the demand from the pump is too great, when run for more than say a minute or two to re-pressurise the system and pressure vessel, 'cos it's now drawing air as well as wetness and really upsetting the pump. (and me !! 🤬)

we'll live with the leak the, for now - storage tank up top is full to the brim - looked yesterday ..

so that's me next challenge ... find the bloody pipe, under our nice, unadulterated, tarmac drive :censored::(

'sposed to be dry tomorrow so got some stuff to do -
Like move an IBC (after I've emptied it - don't really want to 'ditch' 900 litres of water) so'll give the car a good pressure wash off (not been done in weeks)and anything else that needs it, to empty the IBC.
been waiting 10 days now for a new ball cock - got a few used ones here, but'd like a shiny new one for our water supply - am furious it's not arrived yet and getting no responses from the sellers... might just go get one tomorrow and cancel his order - TW*T
need to empty the IBC as what's in there has been sat in it for years - although it is crystal clear, like it was filled yesterday - and'll get filtered and UV-ed - yer just don't know - even after a boiling in the kettle.
plus I CBA to carry it down here with the 'Drema .. so much easier to handle empty

If the plan is successful, the leak'll wait ... and if I have to I'll get the 9" out with a diamond disc and cut out a nice neat rectangular slab to dig a hole in, that I can then make a frame and plate cover for, to concrete in place in hopefully the right place - will start small-ish and see if I can trace the flow
if it is as I suspect, an in-line-er gone south, it'll take some swapping, so maybe have to put some 90,s in and dog leg it, 'praps even put a stop cock in the dog legged line, as currently no way of turning off the riser in the kitchen, short of stopping it off at the 1500ltr tank and waiting for several hundred yards of line to empty. If I can get it right, can put it all in a lid-ed chamber 🤞🤞🤞
's just the wrong time of year to be pratting about with it 😫:censored:

on an 'up' note, I did get an 1800 quid refund from the 'blood suckers' yesterday (out of £8k I calculate they owe me)
did I want it BACS or a cheque - thought BACS of course - much easier - big mistake ... they went into the ins and outs of a ducks ar*e with online access directly to my bank accounts. if you get a refund ask for a cheque :oops::mad::mad::mad:

a lot bigger than that - I dug the footings for it a while ago and from memory it's gotta be pushing 50m2 if not more - i'll ask him ;)

from what I've read so far - yes - and a 'silencer'
Will et you know how I get on with the purchase (on the strength of this lot on here and Serge's opinion) ;)
Looking forward to a warm box - might see if I can't make it swappable between me 'tool box' and the one the Harrison lives in .. gets cool, stood at that

You could just get a pair of solenoid valves on the output to direct air one way or t'other.

Or a Y shaped duct, I'm meaning to get one of them for the Defender- one into the cab, one into the back to dry kit. Might even add a removable extension for heating the roof tent 👍
If you're not using one box that day, there is no point heating it. You'd just have a flap in the duct to close it off.

yeh or that, but don't spend as much time in the Harrison's box as I do in the tool box (where me Ajax also lives)

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
busy day yesterday ... woke to find we had NO water - zero - nada ???? WTF :unsure:o_O
and the (what I thought was a) spring/leak dry - real confused Druid?
checked our storage tank up the drive - full to the brim still ?

main priority was getting some water into the house - by any means.
We have a secondary outdoor supply, which is the tail end of the line that supplies the two neighbours. They have tanks on their properties and as long as they're full/not filling/drawing on the line there is a great flow on this line, which I use to supply all my outside taps (5 in total) - not often it doesn't have flow.

so .. delved into our plumbing at the pump/filtration point and worked out how to provide an alternate feed/source and set about creating suitable fittings/connections/jury rig, so I could feed it with 1000ltr, from an IBC and isolate what is our normal supply line. Can replenish the IBC from the secondary line -

got the necessary bits and pieces assembled and connected up to a suitable length of brand new 1/2" hose, that I'd bought 4 off, from the local garage a while back, as it was superb quality and I'd negotiated a sound deal on 'em - all he had - would've had more if he'd had them - nice 50ft lengths.

Re-juggled the plumbing ready and had it all connected up ...
wound up the 'Drema and stuck me VA-r forks back on from under the tipper, to pick the IBC off the bench, get it spun round to the right orientation and carried it down to my side of 'the trellis (fence)', as close as poss to where I wanted - out of sight and gave me a good 7-8ft of additional head (although the Jet Inox pump is supposedly good to pick up from 6-8M)
WP_20251210_15_50_51_Pro.jpg

as said before .. water in the IBC is as clear/clean as the day it went in there, some time ago and after coupling up goes through two, 1 micron, 10" filters and a 30Lt/min UV system, but even so told Pam to stick bottled water in the kettle (usually use the spring water) and use this for washing, toilet flush etc. and treat is as non potable for now.

any way .. got it all coupled up - Pump cleared the air out the system and it ran faultlessly all day, yesterday .. flushed the loos, two loads of washing, dishwasher and general washing usage, showers (best one I've had in some time - super flow) .... used circa 100-110ltrs all day - I refilled it to over flowing last night, 'fore coming to bed :giggle: ...
just had a squint at it now and reckon we've used less in the last 24 hrs - 'bout 80ltrs at a guess:rolleyes::unsure:

going to be a bit of a pain for a while, but ought to last a good weeks-worth (without daily top ups) - 'til I can work out WTF has happened to our normal supply line ??????? AND dig a hole in the drive where I think we have a leak (SWMBO has reconciled herself to the fact that it is gonna have to happen) and had an ear to ear smile, when H2O was restored to the taps/loos/house yesterday.:)

so having gotten that sorted, stuck the forks back in the front of the 6t tipper (where they live), squashed a few filing cab remnants, much flatter with the VA-r's parking plate, 'fore I disconnected the VA-r and dropped it off the 'Drema, out the way
WP_20251210_16_10_07_Pro.jpg

and stuck her back in her usual parking spot
WP_20251210_16_10_39_Pro.jpg

did try it with the VA-r in place, but stuck out too far to be convenient, and's only 10 min.s to drop it back on anyway  ... then stuck my 10 x 5 trailer back out the way too
WP_20251210_16_09_41_Pro.jpg

got a bit more space to juggle them all into too and a straighter run in to park it - not as I don't have the drop on getting any of 'em into their allotted slot with the Kia.
DPD arrived lunch time with this .......
WP_20251208_13_55_40_Pro.jpg

's how it arrived .. reckon someone'd been having a nosey, see if it was worth pinching, at a guess - new bag of ten Plasson 25mm MDPE elbows, I dropped on, on ebay last week for 15 quid - had to be had -- short on elbows - only two in stock, when I looked, in readiness to sort said leak (hopefully🤞🤞🤞) - if it is a straight connection let go - no way will I get another in place on a buried line, (in a minimal hole), so as said, will dog leg it and need 4 elbows for that.

I'll swear me laddo here muttered summat along the lines of " wake me up if I can be of any help ", as I sat beside him yesterday morning, putting me toe caps on, 'fore assaulting the day's problems :ROFLMAO:
comfy or what:ROFLMAO:

came in the night before for supper, like a drowned rat - took a good ten minutes to towel him dry - he was WET!!
Have had Harper all day today and not a lot gotten done - not as I could've done a lot, other than assault the drive's tarmac after getting the divining rods out again for a.n.other 'course' check - all me previous marks've gone after all the bloody rain we've had :(:censored:

Oh and this arrived today, with a few other bits an' pieces I've been waiting for, with fairy tale delivery dates ... taking some sellers 3-4 days just to despatch simple, single items🤬🤬 .. this was very rapid, fair play ... power supply for yon diesel heater, which is supposedly arriving tomorrow :unsure:
so it can be done!!

had conversations with one seller of an item I've waited 11 days for now, yesterday. Apparently Yodel have 'lost it' - new one sent out yesterday - express, with Evri ...
I cringe when anyone mentions Yodel for transport - utter w⚓s - why does anyone use them ??? 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

'sposed to be dry in the morning for a couple of days, so'll probably go up to the storage tank in the morning, cut into the line and check there's flow out the tank and insert a stop tap, to isolate the tank/line (never put one in originally when we relocated the tanks several years ago - didn't want anyone having the opportunity to turn the lines off) then see where we go from there
considering putting 20psi of regulated air down/up the line, but concerned about blowing any other 'fragile' connectors in the run 😧
's gotta be the cause - just can not see 25mm MDPE splitting underground??? .. anyone ever had it happen??
