feeling VERY mortal this morning...

friend, a year or so older than me, fit, active, always busy on something, went into his house for a cuppa Monday afternoon.
His missus turned round, put the kettle on, turned back to talk to Dave and he'd gone - head back on the chair - deceased!:cry:
Son got him down on the floor - tried to revive him with CPR, paramedics arrived and tried, air ambulance team did the same - GONE !!

Always said he wanted to go with his boots on, either in his workshop or at home  ... bit ****in' soon though :(
mr heales ?

yes Bob ..... Serge's sister, Sylvana was married to Dave - we used to see them often and socialised with them a lot ... we were all at Serge's the night Sylvana had her stroke and Serge rushed her off to hospital, mid meal ... she's absolutely in bits - Dave was her rock :cry:

Sorry to hear this. Awful shock when it's out the blue like that. From his point of view no better way to go but still.

Tomorrow is not promised 😞 reminds us not to leave anything unsaid or in @V8Druid case unpainted;)
very true words Kevin ... having been 'returned' a couple of times, I'll vouch for that.

Exactly...but I think to that I'd rather go instantly rather than it been dragged out. That's looking at it from both sides
absolutely, particularly having watched both parents and several close friends succumb to the big C's long term effects ... hell of a shock for those you leave behind though

I try to keep 'my affairs' as in order as possible and well documented ... have done for a couple of decades.

Absolutely.

I've a system in place where if anything happens it's easy to know what is where...I'd rather them sell a machine/vehicle to get rid of it than it be left and some other sod sell it

of all the nights to spring a leak --- it had to be tonight ...
Water pump was running ....
and running ..
odd ?? ...
nothing on drawing water ...
togged up and ventured out into the 'wild night' :ROFLMAO: ...
lid open, insulation out and sure enough it had worked a joint loose - -why today is anyone's guess ...
had to be an awkward sod too ...
nipped it up - to no avail ....
stripped a couple of joints back to it, between the filter housings ..
copious PTFE tape and dog it all back together ..
job sorted ...
could not believe how bloody cold I was after twenty minutes out there - least the hands were :( ....
refilled the pond - again - whilst out there and came in for tea
Sod's law, at its best, in action

tidy togs on and out the house 7.30 this morning, headed for town, take Harper to nursery for half eight and bring Clara back out to school for nine ..
std Tuesday morning these days ...
back at the house by nine ....
change into me hi viz and head for Ross sewage treatment works to meet Russ ......
doing the 'round the mulberry bush' in the centre of Ross by 09.35 (desperate traffic system there) and Russ is on the dog an' bone ...
" Where are you Gra? .. lorry's just arrived "
" Morrison's roundabout .. traffic's terrible - with you shortly "

he knew it'd be well after half nine, 'fore I could get to him and he'd been 'blagging it', 'til I got there.
parked up .... 40 (mind numbing) minutes later and we'd done all the ****in' paperwork, listened to all the bull sh1t and could get on ....
three lifts on contract lift ...
first lump was some sort of screener in a sodding great crate on a very iffy looking pallet ...
" can you de-crate it so's we can see what it's like to get hold of "...
no way were they getting up on the lorry bed :( ..
so reluctantly put some strops under the pallet and took a bite ....
at which point it all disintegrated (as I'd guessed it would) so again reluctantly took all the weight and got it down off the bed ...
" This lift is on you, if it drops - I am NOT at all happy with this and want it on record - we will not be covering this "
much discussion amongst the assembled throng ...
20 min.s later ...
" get it on the floor Gra .. we're not getting up there to de-crate it ":oops::unsure: FFS - 's only on a lorry bed :(
so got it down with a lot of creaking, groaning, splintering and graunching of wood as it continued to fall apart ....
bear in mind the whole thing only weighed 1.4t ....
what a piece of crap pallet/crate ..
alright on a fork lift 'praps, but never intended to 'fly':mad:

so after lifting off what was left of the crate, got this thing slung
WP_20241210_11_25_37_Pro.jpg

and it went for a proper ride into spot
WP_20241210_11_33_55_Pro.jpg

and after yet more deliberation I landed it where they thought it ought to be going .....
and after much more discussion picked it up again and put it where they'd changed their minds as to where it should be (??):rolleyes::censored:
WP_20241210_11_34_08_Pro.jpg

lifted a couple of cat walks in beside it - 90 min.s later - after they'd finished bar-ing the bloody screener about to yet another position  and then spent God knows how long fannying about lining one half up with t'other .. would've been a POP if they'd slotted the biggest one in first (like I'd wanted to - but no - WTF did I know?:censored::giggle:)
spent 10 min.s relocating a few odd smaller components down by their twist lock for them (they left me to get on with that - which is why it only took ten minutes :giggle::giggle:) ..
and they then eveeeeeentually decided we'd finished..
Russ and I had it wrapped up and ready to roll in another ten - he'd another job to get to in Leominster ....
he cracks it down, drops his ballast off, 'upstairs' and as soon as he's round over the front and hooked, I'm lifting the jacks, parking the pads and pulling the rigger beams in from 'downstairs' ..
by the time he's climbed down it's ready to roll :giggle::giggle: ..
's a well practiced procedure ..
doesn't take us long to 'sod off' :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

And this is what is wrong with this country ......
to the right of the pic ...
three 'indians' - none of whom had much of a clue, ranging to none at all ......
and to the left of the pic ......
all the bloody 'chiefs' - stood gawping ALL day :mad:
WP_20241210_12_34_41_Pro.jpg

'indians' out numbered 3:1 ......:censored::oops:
and there's a few missing there, to say nothing of the half dozen or so sat in the offices

and don't get me started on all the bloody barriers, gates and where you could or couldn't walk .....
country is ****ed
two hour job - max - took well over 5 hrs o_Oo_O:mad:

Just be glad it's not eye glasses too in addition to the barriers and exculsion zones.

I find it great but they don't like it when you point out the obvious... like why is he wearing an ffp3 masking grinding the floor next to the walkway..who's working direct for Mr main contractor with us working and walking along side him....do we not?

Any photo opportunities they all crawl out.. had it last year basically 4 of us been involved in bits to do with this 40m bridge and the lift... on lift day all manner of out for a picture and watch the tonka toys at work.

oh it was a glasses site .... I just kept quiet - hadn't brought any
they weren't happy when I told 'em the first lift was on their cover / heads .. contract lift - if I (as the rigger) wasn't happy, it wasn't happening - unless they signed off on it - wasn't risking Russ's indemnity for any one.

forgot to say they had a green GRP enclosure to go over a real nice pressure washer unit -- parked it in place over the unit - couldn't open the doors - locked :(:ROFLMAO: .. so picked it again, got inside it and unlocked the doors ... weren't happy but neither of us wanted to hang about any longer while they ferked about looking for the bloody key .. was open and back on the floor in less than two minutes - Knobs !!

as said, country is totally ****ed 🤬🤬🤬
