Couple of dozer pics

Thought we’d have a change from mini-ex’s and tilties...

The first one is a D6K levelling sand for the new Wembley turf. Taken last Saturday just as the op fired it up after his lunch. It was the highlight of the stadium tour for me.

The second one is me on a D6N at 4.00 pm this afternoon. Didn’t realise a dozer could look atmospheric.

Not mine, just one I was testing. I didn’t take the picture, one of my mates did. I’m in the saddle if you can see past the reflection off the high-viz. But thanks, think I might send it out as a Christmas card.

Another one I found in the files. A D6K (hydrostatic) that I was testing a few years back. Somewhere I’ve got a short clip of me doing a bit of cut and fill on this machine. The machine had full forest sweeps and cab screens when it arrived. I took the screens off as they obstructed the side and rear view something awful. Left the sweeps on as they made a good mount for extra lights. Turned out to be a good move when I did a bit of tree removal with it. Had a couple bounce off the sweeps while chopping through the roots.

Thanks for that. I’ve put similar hours on hystat and power shift machines (thousands) and a good few hundred on the old direct drives and they all have their place. Batter work and grading hands down I prefer hystats. Each to their own, though and I know some won’t agree. Whatever you’re comfortable with.

People get it a bad name, I’ve just retracked two of our d6n’s that we’ve had since new 13,000 hours and 12,500 hours and both had original idlers, sprockets, bottoms rollers and pads. They both had a set of chains at 6500 and 7000 hours. For us it works great the conventional undercarriage would never last the same amount of hours.

How well you get on with S1 depends on the application, Mark. Are your machines mainly spreading or on landfill? Those are the applications where you get the best out of S1. On the N in the pictures the rest of the components were okay, apart from a bit of rounding on the rollers from doing a lot of battering.

We’ve also run two K’s which are about four tonnes lighter. One was on wide tracks and the Tracks were had it at under 4000 hrs, the other on narrow tracks and everything good at over 6000 hrs.

Our tractors are normally running through wet muck, occasionally on stone or rock but not very often. We had a D6k undercarriage lasted 3,500 hours only thing that was re useable was the idlers.

Was the K on S1? In my experience S1 doesn’t like sand, or wide shoes, wet mud hasn’t caused us any issues.

I’d forgotten about these pictures. Top one, the smallest dozer I’ve sat on, apart from the K008 blade and the lad’s Bruder D6K. Taken in Sweden, January this year Next door to our digs. The bottom one is a 259 CTL on snow clearance, again in Sweden. We’ve run a good few of these types of machine, we’ve had two 216’s and a 226 on wheels, a 239, three 259’s, a 257, two 289’s, two 299’s. I’d swap the lot for an old 100B Drott.

Think Gra needs to think about investing in one of these. Could get rough in January.

had a good look around a next gen cat duck at con expo in Vegas this year was impressed by the integrated technology on it. Very similar to our next gen cat 323.

Doing some work on a M317 at the moment, well, in the New Year. As you said, Mark, very impressive, apart from the two monitor screens getting in your eyeline at times. Same footprint as the M313.

What is the second monitor for? Can’t remember seeing one on the machine I had a look around. We have two on the 323 but the second is for trimble earthworks.
