No, I’d just hire one in.. or get someone local to do the job.. 45mins max travel time for me or you just spend to much time messing around!

No way would I come anywhere near the 100km exemption
usually up to 20-30 mins away and certainly less than the previous 50km limit🤓
Some of my jobs are very close but the mini still gets strapped down properly on the Ifor
unless it’s so close that I track it a few hundred yards up the road 🤪

Been close to the 60 mile radius, towing own plant and materials.
Better for my own micro digger and track dumper to sit on a job doing sweet fa and not getting charged weekly rentals as can be used one day then not again for a day or two

They are good enough. Lwb is better than swb. I think big end bearings and abs pumps are common issues but there's many out there that are still going strong on original.

On paper it sounds ideal. If you've bought it it's a bit late to ask, go hitch it up and see! And report back :ROFLMAO:
Yeah I know- I was fed up of umming and arring over it so thought I'd go in with both feet- can always sell if it's shite- I have read that they're meant to be pretty low geared at the bottom end and certainly have the cc to back it up so here's hoping.be a week untill I pick it up.

I have an lwb 05 shogun. It's rated to tow 3200kg. It's very good, even up steep hills. The newer (07 onwards) shogun can tow 3500kg. I took out the back seats. Very comfortable to drive, automatic, 4 wheels drive can be selected on the move and traction control is good for off road. Heated seats and air con 😍. I dont know why more people don't use them!

the price of parts used to be a good reason ...... not sure what the score is now?

More expensive than landrover defender, but you don't need them as often so balances out!

I think parts are a bit dear... especially if the fuel pump fails. Regular fuel filter change is therfore very important, as is checking the fuel filler pipes for corrosion as contaminated fuel is the cause of pump failure.

There was another issue reported early on where a timing chain guide wearing out resulted in the timing chain breaking. I think this has been resolved on newer models.

Other than a wheel bearing, a couple of starter motors and an electric motor that powers an accumulator in the braking system I've (touch wood) had over 50,000 trouble free miles, and that's regularly towing 2.7T up and down hills.

I've been very happy with it, but I don't have much to compare it with, so it might be complete crap and I just don't realise!

You've actually brought something? How many weeks between looking at it and buying it🤔 something's not right.

I had a petrol v6 auto shogun last year. Was a low mileage tidy thing I needed a 7 seater to tow caravan and kids and thought it would be handy to tow a gritter or ifor if I was stuck.
was good spec so comfy and powerful but didn’t thing it towed that nice really. Transit definitely towed the same thing better.
the fuel pump s**t itself in the fast lane of the m56 and was mitsi only part so I spat my dummy of and stripped it.

the older shape we had years ago was a better thing I think until we had foot and mouth on the farm and the ministry disinfectant dissolved the chassis🤷‍♂️ Can’t win

I had a 2004 lwb. It was trouble free for 4 years till the head gasket went. I think it was shifting 40ton of muck ,2.7t loads, in the middle summer with the Aircon on that did it.
What sub £10,000 4x4 single cab pickup has the the best towing capacity? Other than defender

The Izuzu D-max has 3500kg towing capacity and has a single cab option, but you don't see many about.
