Built a nice little rockery at the end of this week, a local contractor offered me crazy money for my 1.8, so we’re considering the offer and purchasing a 303.5, with an Engcon and Lieca 2d
Can the Leica 2d be easily swapped between you machines so they can all use the one set up? I have an Idig 2d which is wireless so you can stick sensor holders to all your machines and it will remember them or it takes about an hour to set up a hire machine. Don't know if they have it or something similar available to you? https://www.idig-system.com/idig-4/

Sorta, the screen can be easily moved, the rest stays with the machine. I’m not a big fan of Idig

Happy 2022 ALL!!! Its been a crazy end to 2021, and I'm glad to have it done! Been doing a lot of snow removal lately, on the mountain logging roads, and in town here the last few days.

we bought the old 140M grader, 20k hour special, and have been renting the nicer 160. I'm well over working nights now however, so some things will have to change. I've been dreaming about owner operating again, and sometimes wonder weather I've gone the right direction. gotta love the journey though.
happy new year!

How much does a 140 grader cost where you are? Not something you see here much outside of quarries or big new road jobs

youve bought it? As in yourself? You’ve gone from a mini to now backhoe and few big cat hoes and now a grader all in a year or two good work mate
yes sir, I did, its not as cool as it sounds, but it's been fun. I don't really pay myself, and work 100 hours most weeks, often driving hours from home, chasing the bigger jobs.

How much do you finance and was it a business you took over from your elders?

Grader looks like a lot of fun!

no, my parents have nothing to do with earthmoving, and haven't helped with the business. We use financing when it makes sense, but not excessively. Hard to buy any machines brand new these days without, but its been smart to pay them off aggressively.

Also, I've been at it a while, I'm nearly 23, and have been at it full time sense I was 17 or so. By this I don't mean to brag, I simply like the hard work. I just don't want people seeing what is not there. In a little under six years, we have saved money, and bought 5 machines now, both the excavators well used, with many hours. We also make some money by refurbishing used equipment, and selling it again. This helps us to buy "more than we can afford" in some cases.

Purchasing The backhoe is my proudest accomplishment, and I run that machine Every day, myself. When I do get out, its in the 313 with 10k hours and the tilt-rotator.

I think we've been here before, but what is the day rate in dollars for something like the used grader or the backhoe?

So many people in England are running mini diggers for the same money or less than a plasterer charges for a trowel and some elbow grease.

I'd personally disagree with being smart to pay the finance off aggresively, unless you are on a variable tarrif. A five year fixed deal at an interest rate below the current official rate of inflation (and way below the real rate) has given me leverage in a way that would have been unthinkable back in the eighties when most of the old codgers here started :ROFLMAO: Mind you, they got the cheap houses.

The Engcon SK grapple is VERY good for rock work, and VERY nicely made.
Nice job and good setup for that kind of work- I like that with these kind of grabs its easy to grab a load of soil too for chucking behind the rocks plus can scrape out footings etc for the basestones. If you were in UK I'd be very keen on that wee cat your selling.

From what I’ve seen around the going rate is somewhere around $120 an hour for minis/midis smidsteers
$150-200 for 13-30 tonners
then like $180-220 an hour for dozers and graders etc obviously areas change that

so you can knock out $1500 days quite easily f****ng infuriating when people scoff at £350 a day here

I always hear that, but the guys that chase rate work here, rarely get more than 15 hours a week, and have to do a lot of driving around to get it. In the US, hourly rates only really come into play with change orders or strange circumstances. Nearly everything here is what you would call price work, and it's also very competitive, although not as much as in England it seems.

When bidding price work however, we aren't giving away the machines.I usually account 130 dollars an hour for the backhoe, and 180 for the excavators. with operators, fuel and everything. The grader is a different story, graders almost always work hourly here, as our jobs aren't big enough to use it on our own site work. it does mostly snow removal, billing at 300 dollars an hour, but remember, we have few snow events here, so that is not as much as it seems.

When I had the opportunity to sell the 301.8, for 30% more than i paid, I had to Jump! New machine is here and out working now, so i figured i would share a bit. I had a few minutes to play around this Morning with it, and fell in love. waiting for I dig 3D to come out, and It will be the perfect machine!
