Welfare business advice

Its a lot more niche then plant hire and you could start with a few freezers trailers and a kitchen trailer and see how it goes and could even start it up part time .Only repairs to kitchen units use to be the industrial gas cookers doors where the fat chefs use to pull them shelves up when they dropped something on the floor.
Freezers allways a big cleanup after hire

I think it's swings and roundabouts. What jd says is only half the story.
Quite a lot of the big companies now specify groundhog units or welfare vans on site at all times.
There are dozens sat on the side of the road round here that don't even get unlocked.
The blokes all eat in there vans anyway and it's easier to piss in a bush.
But they have to be on site so they sit there locked up for a week then get collected.
Yes some get very muddy but they can be hosed out.
And the sticking things to the wall problem can be minimized by supplying blue tac or putting cork boards or magnetic boards in them already.
Due to the demand for them going up the prices of them are also rising.

Although if you want other suggestions I would say water pumps.
The selection of pumps available for hire are rubbish.
We have a choice of centrifugal petrol or electric submersible from local hire places.
Considering how much flooding keeps happening if you could find some kind of self priming petrol pump like a miniature version of a quarry pump, then I'm sure you would be busy for atleast 6 months of the year

Don't complain - suggest what's better
I have got a mate who bought a few trailer freezers and hires them out to events and to restaurants pubs etc who want extra freezer storage he also use to do mobile kitchens but sold that business
I know someone who has a large fleet of fridge/freezer trailers. Lots of hire in the summer for events and around Christmas for extra cold storage. Always seems to be busy, but I've never enquired about rates or know what they cost to work out the margins.

Couldn’t agree more mate! I drive past them everyday and mostly from the same company ! If they get used or not the buisness is doing well I suppose eh
And that is also true mate every buisness gets messy ( muddy ) but it can always get cleaned up and restored!
I’ve never looked in to water pumps but it does sound interesting!👍

I did a quote for a couple who supply mobile kitchens to insurance firms to stick on people’s drives when they’ve had theirs damaged and are being replaced (through flooding etc). Basically a smart but basic trailer unit that is powered and plumbed off the house - towable to site by a van/pickup etc.
They reckoned they were really busy with it, looked a nice business idea to me!
Was one of these sites round the corner for a few weeks not too sure if it's still there

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
And a lot more freezers for your buck
a guy local used to do it as a part of his refrigeration biz ... I used to build him bespoke trailer chassis which he'd build the fridge box and chiller unit onto

Good afternoon guys! I’m new to the site and the industry to add!
Basically I’m trying to see if their is any advice out their on starting a hire business in welfare cabins etc, the cost of a brandew cabin won’t work financially wise so my best option is a second hand one to get started. I’m stuck on where to find out where to go for advice on making sure I have the correct documents to be legal to do this buisness I understand the Insurance side of things to an extent..and land to keep units on.
Is their any other documents I would need and any information is greatly appreciated in advance.. thanks you

ryan.
I had a couple for my own stuff and now down to one for the time being, although that's probably going too.
Mine were never hired out to anyone else, did advertise it and got little intrest. Rates vary from £100 off eBay to low 200 a week.
There is some association for welfare units never got further than looking as its some yearly fee scheme
You'll need hired plant insurance no idea on costs as mine are only insured for my own use/jobs.
Do you have a decent tow vehicle? as they tend to be north of 1.8t, it's not the weight that's the issue more towing a badly designed brick that are absolutely crap for towing. Transport fees aren't great by te time you factor in fuel and time plus once you charge transport you'll need a tacho.

Will need yearly electric testing at over £200 a pop. Some get tested every time they go out which is fine for large companies with sparks on the payroll.
Toilet emptying is your next issue anywhere from £25-£60 a week which again is fine for the large companies as they will have their own units or preferential rates for national company. I did consider using the unit and hiring a separate toilet as they can be hired in for less than the emptying cost.
Maintenance and repairs is your next issue unless you can fix everything you'll need to get friendly with a fitter as there will be times where something needs fixing/replacing and parts/fitting fees quickly add up.
You'll also need to allow time for it to be cleaned out after every hire, you can put in your terms about needing to be cleaned before collection but it won't be to a standard that will be good enough to send straight out
Mostly people who hire kit, tend to care very little, so your kit will get damaged and getting paid for repairs is not easy.

small tool hire on facey will probably earn you more money.

Hi Nate sorry I’ve just noticed your message but to start thank you very much for the information this is what I have been looking for! , I don’t know the price for plant insurance yet
I do have the correct towing Vehicle ( ford wild track ) which is more than capalabe of towing the units up to 3.5 kg
I know This buisness venture won’t be profitable anytime soon like any buisness my plan is to start earning of each unit in year 2 if the work comes in slowly but surely, their seems to be a company in my city that is doing really well I feel I can match their prices and hope for the best! Plant hire was my next plan tbh mate but their seems to be a demand for these cabins in my city. Are you involved in any hire business at all?
Thanks again for the feedback much appreciated.

Hi Mate first positive comment thank you 😎
I’m the same I’ve noticed a few similar companies starting and keeping busy.. all about taking the risk I think and chasing the work!
You can do anything if you put your mind to it. Fleets of 3cx machine are at all time lows. Everybody says there’s no work for them etc yet a lad in London who started up a few years ago is milking it and now has a huge fleet. What doesn’t work for one doesn’t mean it won’t for you . However nobody on here about to tell you how to do it or they would do it themselves. You may get some good ideas though . Your going to need to do a lot of research on everything and get in the deep end.

Mate thank you so much man couldn’t agree more with you the reply’s have been awesome on this but that nailed it on the head 👍 I do have a good feeling about it and I’m not desperate for a return on this buisness which gives me more time to try and expand it with other products, the attractive side to this buisness for me is transporting the products with a commercial vehicle like a ford ranger I suppose the lad in London uses Hgvs etc ?

Hahaha emmm the Isle of Man 🙄.. just kidding😂 I’m from Glasgow 🙏?
Ahar...climate protestor removal is a quick buck I believe atm...
Jokes aside.niche niche niche imo.
Hookas...carefull how you research...also avants with odd attachments..
Other random odd construction related kit.
Screed pumps is a good one, also the even smaller screed pumps are interesting and the portamix etc.
Think small and odd ...be creative. Any fool can stick a mini on eBay at 150 a day...
Ask...contractors what they struggle to get..research is your friend

Pumps for concrete, are a good earner but not sure on costs for the units or insurances plus can be very dangerous if anything goes wrong. 2-4 jobs a day at £300 odd a pop for a line pump won't take long to recoup money
