Some of the plumbers in my area do a better job than heating engineers that come from further afield. First air source fitted I saw was installed by central belt heating engineers. Steering the client through grant process and still took the eyes out of them . Virtually no back up service to speak off . It never worked right from day 1.
Local (very knowledgeable) plumber sorted it. He took the time to understand the product . He’s now a heating engineer 🤣

think bore hole would be my choice for ground source ... deeper you go the more consistent the source is, from what I've read (y)

Never got involved in the “green” side of plumbing and heating. It does seem whenever grants are being handed out, it’s hoovered up by either large companies or fly-by-night limited companies.

absolutely .... all sorts of historic examples ..... this £5k thing is purely for replacement of faulty/failed gas boilers by air source heat pump systems ... there'll be some bullsh1t spread about to get ppl on board, for sure 🤬🤬

My house had air source but 3 year ago I scraped it and put oil boiler back In 😬
hardly surprised by that TBH ... from what i read air source is most successful (if you can call it that) when the entire house is built around the system and massively insulated - almost passive. ... Retro fit to older properties is a nightmare, just trying to get the insulation levels up to a suitable level, to keep the meagre heat generated, in

set fire to the neighbour's house and stand round warming yer hands :giggle::giggle: .......
but seriously ....

there're mountains of old tyres we could lop up and torch in suitable sized lumps, to substitute the logs for the wood burners :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: only need maybe one barrow tyre an hour ... and good door seals:oops::rolleyes::giggle::giggle:

Works well if done right.

Get the full length runs in.... Works better in waterlogged ground too.
Drill 90m deep normally does it down here don't need to dig miles of trenches then and wet at the bottom

How deep into the water level do you need to go?

We had a water bore hole done.
Hit water at about 25m & it then rose to about 15m.
Drilled to 50m to give good reserve.
Pump sat at about 30m depth.

see they have a £5k grant campaign on ATM to try to get ppl to replace knacked gas units with air source heat pumps ......:sick::sick:o_O
problem is the money allocated will do around 90000 installs ,there are around 25 million gas boilers in this country
