Is the backhoe loader a thing of the past?

I drove & co owned a 3C, my business partner's wife no longer wanted a machine in the garden once the properties were developed, so the end of that. This coincided with my mother becoming very ill & dying, my dad became very frail & confused. I have done my best for him & continue to do so, even though he lives in a rambling tumbledown place with half an acre of steeply sloping ground. The Doc's have just told me he is on very limited time. I am now 60.5 & wonder what the future holds. I work on the little towable machine I bought for £400! whenever I can. The slopes job evaporated when the owner (my former engineer) got some brain disease, became nuts, & just died. I have been helping the widow sort the estate for sale https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/110064041#/?channel=RES_BUY Nothing beyond my little towable was in the plan immediately. I have sort of lost touch with the business as to what would fly. I just wanted to know if the digger loader was really going out. It seems so. Probably best to get the little Manor working, see how that goes, & worry about anything further later

looks to have tremendous potential for those with deep pockets ...... I nearly bought something very similar in my mid twenties, but got gazumped - (remember that ?) had even gotten outline on it
has since been converted and is lovely ....
TBH in hindsight it did me a favour .. would not have managed to achieve what I did with that around my neck as well.

Regarding the property, he bought it in late '78 for £8,500. Some work was done - the old school house was converted into a flat & a maisonette above. Marriage break up & lack of money meant it all stalled. He got in with another woman, went to live at her place, so building largely forgotten for years. It is listed, & needs a stonemason to make some replacement parts. I do not think the £500K remotely realistic - but the school part would divide vertically into 3 additional living units. The real drawback is the awful access, made worse by a road closure nearby.
An idealistic couple maybe that have sold a London property would be its best bet. I have a pic somewhere of me on an IHI 50G working around the front of it.

See I've been pondering a backhoe to increase my capabilities for a while. No need for transport, the forks and wheelbarrow bucket are all very tempting. Old ones don't die and as Ross says, they hold their value well. The downsides are all too well known over an equivalent sized tracked midi, but I cant help thinking if owning one wouldn't be a bad way to give me some more muscle on a job? Thinking of spending around £20k on a tidy but early 2000's ish one, it wouldn't be used every day so should last a few years and prove the concept?
Am I crazy? Is it actually a good machine to run for me in my fleet of smaller kit? I know a few of you have had and sold them since but could you see them ever working as part of a mini fleet to provide some power and forks?
This is exactly my line of thinking too. I have 1.8t, 2.8t and 5.5t. the first too are great but always get pushed to the max as for a day's work it's easier to do that then organise transport and cost of doing so for my 5.5t.
I don't think I'd sell the 5.5t as it's the boss in winter time with the wide tracks. But so often need to move large boulders/ dig out stumps/ move a bit of crap round site etc. Think the backhoe would be ideal for this- I don't do private residential stuff so space isn't an issue. Plus it's a backup to get to work if landrover having work done on it or whatever🤣
It would definitely be a bit of a gamble purchase though as not entirely sure if it will be a success or not. I'd want a thumb on it too😏

I'm guessing it would only be used when not extended? So welded to the fixed part of the dipper.
or fitted to the buckets
