I think this is the dilemma (and to be fair i don't blame them) but the repair quote is currently £750-00 - £1300-00, they won't commit until they have stripped it....

Quite why it would be £750 if it was a very minor internal problem is anyone's guess!

I know it sounds crazy, but have you priced up a replacement from JCB? It might be telephone numbers (probably is) but you won’t know what your up against, price wise, until you get a quote, a quote costs nothing.

Who have you tried for the pump repair?

Pumps for these come up relatively often on ebay as they are quite an old model now and 2nd hand bits are easy enough to obtain. Vicary plant spares, or FC spares seem to have good stock of JCB bits.

No not crazy at all, JCB are coming in well under some other places I’ve tried!

Nope!, it’s not going back to the auction!, it’s a decent machine barr this issue, there’s no money in it for me now, but hey ho that’s the learning curve I’m on, if I have to I’ll keep it, plenty of jobs for it around home, plenty of jobs for it at work and since I’ve embarked on this journey I’ve suddenly found loads of friends I never knew I had that need a mini digger for a few days...., all that’ll save me/earn me a few hundred quid

I’ve pulled the pump of my machine when it was weak on one track, bucket and boom (all common to one side of the pump) and just laped in the face to the barrel been as good as gold since
not a hard job to do i didn’t even have to remove the pump just took the end plate off to reveal the top of the ports

I race PRE65 now (as well as having a couple of pit bikes and a modern RMZ250 I practice on!), but the bike in the pic is the one I’ve had most success on, it’s a 1964 Cheney Jawa, that is a replica Cheney frame with a 1964 2 valve 500cc Jawa engine (those engines were mainly used in the early days of Speedway), of course nowadays they’re allowed to be developed internally a bit so there’s a lot of titanium stuff in it, a modern speedway clutch, electronic ignition etc....

We also have 3 BSA Victor GP’s, a Triumph Tribsa, a BSA Metisse, as you can tell we quite like our bikes!!!!

i go to local classic meetings three or four clubs local to me that each do two meetings a year, love to see the older bikes being enthusiastically used

ive seen you race at devon dorset and somerset meetings, i love the perret triumphs, some engineering into them. some quick riders in the pre classes. and some real tidy bikes.
