Bloody good job I didn't stick yer mats in the 8x4 and hang 'em on the back of the car Friday then ..... went past the sign for Holsworthy on the A30 'bout 2.30pm en route to Newquay
Vicki's 40th B/day ... we're bored with Centreparks, so tried the Hendra caravan park ... very clean, well organised site, nice van, pool was a bit disappointing though. Had two, side by side .. us and Vicki and her girls in the one and josh and his tribe in the next one
-- first to arrive and Pam had the decor organisedand one of her usual cakes, as ordered by the birthday girl
complete with Lindt on the top
203 miles down .. 4.75 hrs
traffic at Avonmouth/Gordano bridge was abysmal ... 3 roads merging - over an hour to cover half a mile ... google reckoned 3hr 20 mins - did it in 3hr 10 coming home with 75 dialled into the cruise a weekend of excess ....
and I pushed my luck for most of it --- and got away with it
.... Pam just went for it combined with several 'chill out' sessions to let it all go down
and a bit of exercise

- pitch it right and Clara could really wallop it -- plenty of hand eye co-ordination practice at Chez Druid, paid handsomelycould've been a bit warmer though .. not that the kids noticed ... no one braved the sea though
's 40 years since I was last in Newquay -- hell has it grown
still a lovely spot thoughthere's a house perched on the 'island' at the far end of that bridge and at the other end is a derelict 'pad' that's been like it for years. apparently .... site on its own must be worth a few bob
without doing up what's there got back about 9pm Monday ----- and then had to do me Hamster juice ... after I'd emptied the car and put Harper's seat back in for the 8am collection, the next morning, to take her to nursery and Clara to school in the village -- was a late finish, short night and early start!!

Grass has been growing like **** for over a week so that had to have it today, after we'd been into town for Pam to go to her dental appointment .. wasn't in there long enough to say hello FFS
so .... shift the P38 from its 'road block' role, onto the patch and relocate my 'box security' .....
'fore getting started on the green stuff ...
was a daisy massacre
.. had grown about 4"looked a bit better after an hour and two collector-fulls
then it was on to the side of the drive.......

It’s easily my least favourite part of Cornwall, but if you have kids/grandkids to amuse then different factors take precedence.

can get about 5 passes on the Countax, beside the drive, with me doing a Bazza/joey Dunlop, with me bum hung off the uphill side of the mower ..... after that i can't keep the uphill wheel on the deck - it's deceptively steep

and then it's Dane time, for the rest of it --- looks alright when it's all done though
apart from what the Dane spits out the back end
then I took her up the drive, did outside the barn on the turning area, two passing places and a green area at the top of the drive, 'fore coming back down and knocking the docks, nettles and anything else of varying shades of green down to the 'knap' in the horsey girl's little 1/3rd of an acre paddock beside the main drive ... didn't want it getting into the state it was in last May when i did it for the first time last year ... nettles were 6 ft high ... Dane takes it all in its stride though

yeh, I was pleasantly surprised - expected hoards of grockles, but plenty of spaces to park on the two days we came down into town for the beach.
1985 was the last time I drove into Newquay, on the kawi thou ...
did a whistle stop tour of the Cornish coast on a B/hol weekend - can't recall whether it was the end of May one or the August one ... '84 or '85
G/F at the time had never been to Cornwall - she saw most of it that weekend
...My favourite place (probably in the whole of the UK) is St. Ives ..
took Pam down there for several days in IIRC 2004 and again in 2005 as she loved it so much
was sat on the beach in the harbour with a brief case, pile of drawings, calculator and me phone ... ordering 30 tonnes of steel, for delivery the day after I got back, to start a steel frame job
.. she took it well, soaking up some rays had beautiful weather both times we were down there

forgot to say ....... been 'kin cool here all day and yesterday - like 12C, combined with a nasty northerly breeze, been in 4 layers all day ... sun's been nice when out but the air just hasn't warmed at all

We had a week in Peranporth a couple of years ago, other half loved it and I suspect would happily move there given the chance. We had a day in Newquay, this the place you mentioned?

Oddly I was saying to the Wife last week, that the Shropshire hills seemed a close second to home (Tamar Valley). Dorset is a lovely spot but way too many people :-(

have had a very busy 6 hrs today ..... lifted this out of where it lives as the winter has not been kind to it, but it's done well for 6 years and two escape attempts, 'fore I made it its base ... forecast dry and calm today so seemed an ideal day ..
had to sling it real tight to get it high enough to clear the contents and still avoid my overhead cable to me boxes
poppies are growing well in there ... they'll grow anywhere, 'cept where you try to grow them ..... didn't want to spend the time or have the grief of shifting everything out of it
dropped the slings off (Pam taking some pix for a change) ...
and got the lift away from the tunnel
and parked the beam for a few hours
then it was a case of undo all the fixings/clamp boards/etc to get the original cover off, what's left of it
the spider web of strings was a pro-tem solution to keep the cover up as best as poss .. 'til I could get round to replacing the cover ... bloody pheasants haven't helped the damage- get on it and peck holes, particularly along the tube lines ?? I'm gonna start shooting any I see on it
cover is completely bollo-ed, but rolled it up 'til we have a nice southerly on a dark night
string free and ready for its new skin
took the old one off over the side - with a struggle, so opted for an end start and haul it along the frame .. .. Pam scowling - saying don't get me in the pic
and it was on -- with a bit of struggling/cursing ... well happy it was a good fit - have had it sat for months - seller would've been hard work if it hadn't - although they were very good at comm.s when DPD left the bloody delivery on the side of the road, at the top of the drive, the lazy bast**ds.
was then a process of getting it nice and even on the frame and then securing it with the clamp boards
only complaint is the door way's not particularly central/well done ... will have to have a look at that ! ...... then it was time to get it back in spot ... spent a little time getting it slung/balanced perfectly level to make life easier getting it back in spot
and after some careful juggling/manoeuvring, etc., it was back where it came from
if this cover lasts as well as the first one, I'll be 75, 'fore I need to repeat this operation ..... my legs/feet are burgered this evening, after all the hopping in/out of the 'Drema and all the running round getting it all done -- down to Pam now to deal with all the poppies/weeds that've sprung up in there ... sand bags're in need of re-bagging too - - pop them on the door bottom to keep it put when it's really blowing.
couple of good warm, sunny days ought to stretch the cover over the frame a bit tighter .. last one went like a drum skin after a few weeks of sun.
Was about to get started this morning when I had the Sany rep. on the dog an' bone ..... fair play to the Sany dealer, they must've been good, for our resident destructive tester to have been swayed to buy one - was a hell of a deal though.
Had a bloody good look around that 5 tonner Russ and I lifted out of a job last year and must say .. looked a very tidy weapon - sadly didn't get a play with it as there was nowhere to give it a try on the site, but looked well put together and the guy who's it was had nothing but praise for it
anyway .. glad to get this done ... won't say I've been putting it off, rather waiting for the right day to tackle it ... wouldn't want it flapping about in a breeze on the end of the dipper

Whats the score with collecting the clippings on the drive? Is it just as easy to do and plenty of tipping spots so why not? I've been mulching the clippings on my back lawn atm. When its dry I always thought it was better for the lawn. as I'm the only one that makes the effort (or has the kit), the others are welcome to rake them up if they don't like seeing the results lying on the mown bits .... I run the Dane up the edges of the black top with the blades running to blow anything 'stray', back onto what I've cut ... works fine with a couple of passes

well I've not been idle since the last B/hol weekend ... just wanted to get it all done first
been wanting to relocate all me steel stock for a while.... takes up a lot of floor space .... been considering this plan for a while and was gonna buy 4 new sleepers for it, but then thought - got a pile of old telegraph/leccy poles - use a few of them - so ...
lopped 4 to length and set about keeping them stationary on the edges of their new home
got the bender out ...
to create some brackets
after trimming some flat spots with Mr Aldi's lil' leccy chainsaw - 's a brilliant little thing, fair play to Ferrex - can't fault it for the odd chop chop
the top notch will become clear later
four done and humped up the ladder ... was about my limit though
then set about creating an 8.2m lump of CLS
the brown tape is covering the jointing strips - 6 total (that I bent the brackets out of) -- customer came in years ago with 1000 wall tie strips he wanted 320mm lopped off - POP with the Kingsland and I kept all the off cuts - down to my last 150-ish ... been very handy things -- joint is also foam covered - another cuminfa - self adhesive 2" wide high density foam strip in a roll - sticky as **** - the logic wiill again become clear in due course ....
and installed
few more brackets, which'll again become clearer in time
next up was make a 7.5m into an 8.2m length of 33 x 3.2 mil
get it cleaned up and drill and tap some holes in it
not seen one of these in the garden for soooooooooooome time, but knew we had at least one wandering about, by the amount of tish all over the place
it's everywhere - walking tish factories - reckon there must be a lot more than just this fella
nice southerly tonight so have been feeding the burning bin since about half five - got several old rotten pallets, that I've uncovered today, three barrow-fulls of lime tree trimmings, couple of bin-fulls of dry leaves, several bags of packaging and this .....
Pam comes to me a couple of days ago and says the barrow tyre is flat - can I blow it up - on closer inspection the issue was a bit more severe - reckon the sun'd had it the last time we saw any - been glorious here today - 25C most of the day and I'm still out there in shirt sleeves, feeding the bin, which is gonna get the above on the next feed in about half an hour - nice and dark now
as for the barrow - always keep spares and Pam was up and running after a ten minute pit stop she was impressed
and so to today's efforts .........

general view from the box top - 'Drema laid out for an oil level check - usually do it where she's parked - an inch overfull, in this position, which equates to 6 litres - she'll cope
spot of lunch, then on to the next 'bundle'
could've done with a pair of eyes up on top to eyeball location for me - was tough going from the seat, to get it just right - could barely see over the box in front of the cab - Pam wasn't up for it though - she panics, stood on a chair
been up and down my bloody ladder quite a few times today

the 20 footers were a bit of a handful and bloody heavy
and that was 'mission accomplished' ..
time to tidy up on the floor to make the newly cleared floor space usable again
shifted this - the remains of the filing cabs the tree killed - there's two flat packed inside that cab body .. must get me scrappy up shortly - got a fair bit for him
and this is the beauty of a VA boom ....
I'd picked that up from 5 ft from the side of the old girl and could've put it down just the same, but as I'd had to come forward I gave meself a bit more space
Must get me gas struts ordered next week ... that engine cover'll do for me - would be so nice to just get a hold and lift
and before I go feed the burning bin again ......
this little girl is growing up fast - Harper having fun on the swings - " Higher Grand dad " the alarming bit is once you get her going, she's mastered the art of keeping and increasing the momentum . she can get herself higher than the fence ... damned near horizontal -- good job the swing frame is nailed to the planet with 24" nails ... that took a fair bit of driving in
and tomorrow's job, first thing is massacre the bloody green stuff again .. been a fairly wet week and it has grown in some order - AGAIN!!!
