I've been looking for a new to me pickup for ages. But unwilling to spend the money that they have inflated to. But in the last week they seem to have started to actually drop a noticable amount. I'm mostly looking at Hiluxs. Now 3 year old invincibles about for around 20k with sensible milage to boot. Hopefully 8f I give it another 6 months I might actually buy something.

I think it's fair to say that l200 is not a 4x4 pick up capable of towing 3.5T!

I’m getting 22mpg mixed use mainly towing hard from my 3.2 2013 ranger. Which is pretty good in my book. Works out at 4.88 miles per litre for comparison to your 2.2.

I’ve seen a 130 Defender and double cab Hilux that have gone the same way., in the 90’s in Africa. At the time they didn’t derate load capacity but all of the deck was behind the axle. Couple that with bad roads….

Would be happy to get that mpg my latest shape ranger with 2.0 engine and RT tyres struggled to do 26mpg going to Wales and back with just me and the two girls 9 and 11 (age not stones) and suitcases for everyone else. Towing the 8026 around I'm lucky to see 18mpg. I've maybe once broken into low 30 empty but even running with slightly higher pressures than recommended didn't go over a 26 average I'll double check the numbers but it's not great.
Seriously considering getting a 7 seater sd6 discovery for towing duties and possibly a small cheap van for grunt work. Still not sure if it's the right way to go but majority of the time the pickup is empty bar small toolkit, micro spade and grease gun.
There's the odd time I put a few bags of cement or small aggregate bags in the back but anything more than that and the tipper trailer is dragged about
