Where are you hiding Graham @V8Druid?
Evening chaps ..
annual weeks torture at Longleat Centerparks with four kids and six grandkids .... been a long five days
right - don't solve it without me ... gotta go have me hamster juice for a couple of hours .... can't do it in the morning ----- Laters gentlemen
's why I had to do me 'hamster juice' last Sunday, for an early get away Monday morning.;)
Can't book in before 10.00, but once in - parked the car 'til late afternoon and spent the day in their 30C heated pool and 'tropical dome' .

there's always a mad rush at four o'clock by the hoards heading for their lodges .. we stayed in the pool 'til six and all the carnage had subsided - clear run up to the lodges - back down, park the cars and catch the land train back .. very civilised - we have it off pat. :giggle:

Pam spent most of the week trying to drown me teach me to swim - AGAIN!! ... my buoyancy is pretty sh1t - like negative - I do not float - end of ... but quite happy floating about with me foam 'woggle' thing and can get about the pool with that keeping me on the surface .....
she can't grasp the fact that after a take off from neck depth water, heading for shallower depths, after five or so strokes my propulsion just isn't enough to keep me above water and I go down like a sub in a crash dive ...
I've 'humoured' her a bit daily, but I'll stick with me woggle thankyou ...
this Druid was never designed to float ..
too much bone density, too much muscle mass and no where near enough blubber.

funny one for you - a couple actually ...
one o'clock today everyone got pulled out the pool ..
life guards peep peeping their whistles ....
someone thought they'd spotted a turd on the bottom of the pool in the 2-ish foot area ...
guard wades in and pulls out a clump of soil from one of the plants surrounding the pool :ROFLMAO: ...
half hour later we're all back in and they turned the wave maker on - usually there's a circa two minute warning, but not this afters ...
was going for it within 30 seconds or so ....
I'm in the deep end, where I can just about touch the bottom with me head just below the surface and way too close to the end wall when it kicked off - happy enough in the middle - got me float and just bob about usually ...
They must've been giving us our money's-worth 'cos these waves were BIG - like 4ft where I was and 'fore I know it I'm pinned to the wall, coming up for air - grabbed the rope and had a foot against the wall above the water vents, which're like 'security grilles', 4ft high and gaps you can get yer leg through, under the water, preparing to launch meself back up the pool, with the next wave that hit the wall .....
life guards are going batshit, blowing their whistles, like crazy - which was helping a lot, (not) from where I was situated ..
Pam turned at the noise and could see I was in the tish, but she had a 4 yr old with her and could do little else other than watch from the 3 ft depth ...
the one guy's got his shirt off and getting ready to come in, as I launched myself out from the wall and 'swum' for all I was worth away from it :giggle: ...
got some real waggy fingers, once they realised I'd got meself out the tish .....
when I got to Pam she was wetting herself laughing at how berserk they'd all gone with their whistles -- you usually get a little peep for a misdemeanour ....
the way they'd been going for it it sounded like a hanging offence ....
and I was the innocent party ...
bloody water'd grabbed me and there was sod all I could do other than what I'd done ...
'Least I kept me head and survived it :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

second funny ..
we usually each prep an evening meal and take with us ...
Pam, Vicki and Josh
then eat out on the fourth night, save faffing about....
finished our meal last night - served by this very pretty 20 something Polish girl ..
kids were still finishing their deserts and asked for the bill as she came across.
Said "I'm just going out for a smoke and I'll sort you out when I come back"
Adults erupted into fits of laughter, she said some thing to me (which I didn't actually hear, but assumed it was along the lines of OK) and I went out for me smoke.
came back and they're still laughing about it - Chris says to me "what did she say to you? " and quick as a flash I said, she said " you're on if you can lick your eyebrows - I'm off at ten " you can imagine the reaction from the rest of 'em :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I've done my best to amuse 'em this week :LOL::ROFLMAO:

Do they have one of the river rapid things at that one? I consider myself an half decent swimmer and even i thought they could be a bit much for someone. Theyre only shallow but fast and you get slammed into the concrete sides. I'm suprised nobody has had a concussion incident. Good fun though!

yeh they do ... but I tend to keep out of it .. as said - zero control and me 'woggle' tends to poke folk around me. Have been in it with Pam but not my fave thing to do .. I do have a full floatation jacket, rather than the 'foam worm', but feel a bit of a knob wearing it ... that'd be the boy for the 'lazy river' as they call it, which is far from lazy ...:oops:
also have all sorts of slides, a massive corkscrew thing and a big multi pool 'sluice' thing outside ... I'd deffo drown on them

Josh paid for a laser clay pigeon session for me crimbo prezzie, unknown to me ...
so Wed.s morning we headed for the shooting range ...
stood waiting for the guy to arrive to start the session and I can hear this "GRAHAM " from behind me ...
turned round to see 'young' Duncan (young lad I had on work experience from school and stopped with me for 12 or 13 years) ...
broke my heart when he left - was SUCH a great fabber with fantastic patience for a young fella.

There with his wife (who'd had open heart surgery 3 months earlier) and their three daughters ....
hard to believe he's 50+ now
was fantastic to see him ...
we 'keep in touch' on FB occasionally and he's gone on in life to gain a degree in engineering and is a project manager for Eon now
asked me if I wanted a tour round Hinckley point C in May as he's got a bus load going .. sounds interesting

see he's put this up this morning

as for the laser clay shoot ...
was absolutely crap at it ....
have done a bit of bang bang clays ...
but with this you have to track bang on centre of the clays instead of ahead ....
could just not get my head around it - or my eye in ..
hit about four I think :(:(

got this last night
1712787249634.png
:giggle: so guess where I've been today WP_20240410_07_58_29_Pro.jpg ... Russ's for 08.00 to head for a place called Wyre Piddle :ROFLMAO: .. look for the Anchor Pub - job is in car

park beside the pub .. or what was half their car park/garden .... new house build on quite a bank down to a river .... chuck a couple of beams into spot on a single fall WP_20240410_09_57_05_Pro.jpg .. had to rain of course

WP_20240410_10_36_44_Pro.jpg then fly this out, once we'd reeved up for 3 falls WP_20240410_10_36_48_Pro.jpg took its three buckets first though WP_20240410_10_57_09_Pro.jpg

well happy with the pick ... I'd put the clutches on the chains as they came out the box off the back of the Lieb ... and if I hadn't have had to stick an extra two shackles on the two tiny boom lift points to get the hooks into, would've been perfectly flat :( ... was pretty ferkin' good though for a quick eyeball. :giggle:

nice bunch of guys ... Robin who was a.n.other RDS said he'd been well happy with his Sany and it'd saved him £2k a month on hires, for IIRC he said 600 quid a month payments and really couldn't fault it - Yanny lump - Rexroth Hyd.s .. first one I've seen in the metal and it looked fairly tidy ... wrapped and ready to roll by 10.15 .. soggy gear off, back in a warm cab and heading back to Ledbury for another supposedly quicky job at Westons Cider.... lift a replacement filter head into an aeration/settling tank
WP_20240410_12_53_12_Pro.jpg WP_20240410_12_53_23_Pro.jpg WP_20240410_12_53_45_Pro.jpg got the filter in place then guy doing it had me take a hold of the 6" flexi to try to get it back in position on the inlet ... Russ can't see a damned thing so all on radio .. got it where he wanted it and instead of bolting it up he turned his attention to a.n.other 4" line that was hand-ball-able and spent half an hour p*ssing with that one - leaving me stood in the pouring rain and hail, waiting for him  .. got seriously soggy for a second time .....
these tanks usually look like this .. WP_20240410_12_53_50_Pro.jpg and there's a few of 'em WP_20240410_12_53_54_Pro.jpg .. enamelled steel plates, bolted every 4" and mastic-ed joints - real old skool ... the full one's about 30 ft dia. and about 25ft tall ...
took one like it down once, mid '80s - 30ft x 85 ft tall ... with a conical tin roof, which was the hardest part to remove - eventually dropped it into the silo, once I'd gotten God knows how many bolts out of the perimeter .... there was one hell of a lot of half inch bolts holding 85 ft of it together .. Mak nut runner on a 110v lead .... yer battery jobs'd've given up long before ... if they wouldn't spin off it'd just dog 'em up and snap 'em
30t Demag, 110ft of stick and a man basket .... could only stand in the one spot so had to work over the top on radios, for the far side and nigh on seven days to get it down.

As usual, soon as we'd wrapped up - it stopped raining (sort of)
Then back to Russ's at Ross for a coffee and yap with Reo, who's converting an outbuilding into a big car port/open fronted garage for Russ

no where near as warm today and blowing well, so hopefully drying the grass/ground .. like a sponge ATM ... 'least the bits that aren't under water are .
got a bit more done today .....
pulled the kid's swing apart first thing - the cross beam is decidedly creaky with fungus growing out of a few splits - having it collapse on 'em would not be good ... so .... WP_20240413_12_09_14_Pro.jpg .. dismantled the beam's fittings and ... WP_20240413_12_39_39_Pro.jpg set to work WP_20240413_13_16_30_Pro.jpg added an extra metreWP_20240413_13_40_38_Pro.jpg coat of dark brunswick later WP_20240413_15_43_44_Pro.jpg and added a couple of extra eyes for an adult seat WP_20240413_16_11_35_Pro.jpg .... then start on the legs WP_20240413_16_43_09_Pro.jpg
the cross beam was a decent fit for some 88.9 x 5 CHS ... sadly the legs are 70mm, so had to get creative for the 76.3 x 3 CHS to get it to fit ..
split itWP_20240413_17_59_28_Pro.jpg and took about 20mm out of the circumference WP_20240413_17_59_24_Pro.jpg then some judicious reprofiling with the knockometer and squeeze the final gap together, 'fore seaming up the insideWP_20240413_16_43_52_Pro.jpg WP_20240413_16_43_24_Pro.jpg and attaching it to the new longer legs WP_20240413_16_52_31_Pro.jpg WP_20240413_16_52_38_Pro.jpg WP_20240413_16_52_44_Pro.jpg and it was time for tea -- well half an hour late actually, but at least I got asked if I was ready on time :giggle: .. which I wasn't
slung 'em all in a box for the night, as they're nice and dry ... get 'em cleaned up tomorrow, fixing holes drilled and tapped, some feet with spike holes to nail 'em to the planet with, then a coat of brunswick to finish off ... should hopefully outlast me .... now to go find some 90mm placcy caps on Fleabay for the beam ... got plenty of 76s, but Sod's law - no 90s :(

so thoughts on the new 'space-saving' format, after all the p*ss taking 'bout my pix posting? ...... can't see as it'll make much difference though as the images still have to be uploaded?:rolleyes::cautious:

WP_20240414_14_51_49_Pro.jpg
and #1 done including some eyes on the bottom of the legs to nail it to the planet
WP_20240414_15_43_30_Pro.jpg
with some planet nails :giggle:
WP_20240414_17_06_37_Pro.jpg
on with #2 ...... slowest part of the day was cleaning all the tubes off ..
WP_20240414_17_06_52_Pro.jpg
can't recall who was bemoaning their paint suppliers sending them the wrong colour Brunswick, but this is as opened ..... and after a mix with the drill stirrer
WP_20240414_17_31_09_Pro.jpg WP_20240414_17_32_09_Pro.jpg
all the pigment sinks when stood
and as you can guess, I ahd the lid off to give it all a coat .....
WP_20240414_18_01_33_Pro.jpg
and got p*ssed on :oops::mad: ....
'nother half hour and I'd've finished :(
so went and had me tea - Pam surprised to see me appear 'on time' ...
so had to wait ...
also surprised to hear I'd been rained off  ......
so had some food and as it'd dried up, went back out and finished t'other two legs and braces
WP_20240414_19_12_24_Pro.jpg
we've taken to doing my 'hamster juice' on a Sunday evening, now we no longer have any commitments of an evening - leaves Mondays free-er ..
was well surprised that she was happy for me to go back out -- doubt it'd've been the same story if I'd been making summat for me, rather than doing the swings for the kids

And it's tree pollen season again .... nose and eyes dying all day, despite the usual daily 10mgs of cetirizine - surrounded by oaks - and nose has been dripping like a tap all day .... pi**ed off with blowing it - so frustrating when you're trying to get on :mad:
WP_20240414_19_11_51_Pro.jpg

any better @craig ??
