If you are going to the lengths of having a thermostat-controlled fan on the oil cooler I trust you will go the extra mile and build it with an intermittent reverser to self-clean the radiator cores occasionally?
(I’ll be very disappointed (and am confident I won’t be alone) if this just ends up a thrown-together-half-a-job-type-effort…)

I also am anticipating some kind of functional self closing Louver that opens when started and closes when stopped to keep the weather out. We cannot have half measures

When fitted to a boiler or hot water tank there is usually a brass tube like fitting with one closed end which is fitted first, filled with a grease like substance to ensure contact and then the probe pushed in it. So ur temp probe never actually contacts the oil and obvs makes it easy to change if needed. I'm sure the brass tube has a 1/2 inch bsp thread.

that's a very good shout Gaz .... think me spare port is only 3/8" BSP though ..... might be enough meat in the boss to open it up to 1/2" though

Why on earth do you need to cool the oil there is such a big oil tank on there it should get rid of the heat, on my crane I can use it for hours at a time and the cooling fan never comes on and the oil tank isn’t that hot anyway

and that's why I posed the Q Mog ... yes 170ltr by my calculation, so a lot of oil and with your experience of a similar set up that's good to hear ... reassuring

Why does the man need to do anything he wants to cool the oil, so he will cool the oil

but only if the situation calls for it ... could just put it on a manual switch too ...
but 'Sod' has a way of creeping up and biting you in the arse

well that's very astute Rory .... it was going to get a louvre panel in front of the mesh ..... but self closing ... there's a thought .. almost an easier build than a fixed louvre ...... any other bright ideas

Been to watch footy and can’t believe the level of cynicism aimed at this assembly operation in the past 12 hours. Give him a break, he is not planning mass manufacture or anything serious. Just wants something new to paint!!

hmm interesting ..... dunno about automatic reverse-er, but an easy enough proposition to reverse flow occasionally manually.
as for the last line ..... as if!!

He never did mass manufacturing anyway, just assembled random bits as staff flocked to retire rather than suffer his Cat and Paint Fetish. If he wanted to now he couldn't as he's scrapped more industrial equipment than the teesworks project.

I've reached the conclusion it's the speaker volume button ... if I touch it / reset it, I have all sounds back ... seems to 'die' in my pocket ... must give it a good blow out with the air line
