Bank Holiday tourist weekend started off less than ideal when my mates d3 died on route to the far side of Wales. Luckily we were just by a slip road so he was able to coast up to the lights then I towed him to a safe spot. It was only after I'd put the rope on I had the brief thought of 'bloody hell, I'm only in the freelander, that's a completely dead disco plus caravan' but apart from a little chirp of front wheel spin no problem at all 👍
They went home, changed car and booked themselves into the Premier Inn in St David's where we all met up in the end.
Weather on Saturday was less than ideal but we watched the very impressive lifeboat launch in the morning, wandered round the city 😆 and in the afternoon it picked up enough for a bit of time on the beach.
Sunday we headed for the Brecon area via as many scenic roads as we could, in great sunny weather. Lovely campsite with a hell of a view.
Came home yesterday via Llanthony Priory and the road along Hay Bluff, another amazing road, as scenic and enjoyable as pretty much anything I've driven, including all round Scotland.
Couldn't take as many pictures as I wanted as my phone memory is full, just gives me an excuse to go back! Brilliant to spend the whole weekend in places I've never been, apart from a Scout event in Llanthony years ago.
Freelander continues to impress, its on 181k now. I've done 9k in 6month in it at an average 31mpg which I think is pretty reasonable as its got the roof rack, a/t tyres and I drive it hard when I want to.
You probably passed our last tank install 😄 should have called in to see the druid

Llyn Brianne res. spill way .... pity they hadn't got the outflow pipe open - that is spectacular
this is it slightly open ..

full open is an amazing spectacle .. got pix of it somewhere, full bore, but paper pix ... water's a good 150ft in the air and creates a spectacular rainbow
water level must be down with nothing on the spillway

one of my favourite Sunday siccle rides from Tregaron down the side of the res. to Rhandirmwyn and into Llandovery ---
the ride to get to Tregaron, up the Elan Valley and over Plinlimmon to Devil's Bridge is pretty epic too :giggle::giggle:
not done it in a while - :(
Was on my Z1300-6 last time I was up that way -
would've been circa 2009 ..
hadn't had it long and had Pam on the back, middle of no-where, between Tregaron and the res thinking " If this breaks down she's gonna kill me " ......:oops:
and came round a corner to be flagged down by two birds with a dead Renault5 - no phone signal and about 4 miles back to the nearest phone box (if it was working)...
no obvious signs of why it was dead and they'd flattened the battery winding it ...
good luck with that on a Sunday evening at 5.30, miles from anywhere

you've had a fair run around this weekend @William127 .... you were lucky the road up out of Hay to Llanthony was open -- been closed for quite some time, 'til recently with a land slip -
the opening scenes of An American Warewolf in London were filmed on the moorland in front of Hay Bluff, where the road forks right, to get down to the 'Slaughtered Lamb' pub

let me know when you come back down for 'the photoshoot' ;):giggle:

Levels did look very low, shows how it's built but be great to see it with a bit of flow on it 👍

Wouldn't want to break down out there unprepared, some parts felt very remote😯

Lovely run over a couple of days, did a fair few miles Sunday and Monday but never felt like it, so much scenery and we only did a handful of miles on the motorway, pretty much A40 all the way home 👍👍. Better than today that's for sure, been crawling along at the London end of the A40🙄

let me know when you come back down for 'the photoshoot' ;):giggle:
Will do 😉

Simple job apparently, drop in the headboard 😆
Yeah right, not when the winch was fitted first... Out with every tool, or so it seemed, and in it went.
Seen some right complicated ways of fitting roof tents on Facebook, thought I'd try my way first 😀
Gave the auction fuel tank a good clean, sucked 20 litres of clean looking red out of it - put some through a filter into the Dexta😀, took the pump and hoses off, pump works fine and glued up a crack in the lid. Forgot the after pictures 🙄
Auction plough looks good to my untrained eye, think I'll stick it straight up on marketplace though as I dont really need a plough. Be wanting a profit on it though, otherwise it can sit looking nice somewhere 👌
Then it was the never ending task of emptying and reloading the van..
Productive few hours 👍

In reality it’s cheaper to go to a foreign country - the UK is mental money for a holiday nowadays!
I haven't been abroad for years but yes, unless you are really careful- basically fully self catering camping?- you can definitely go all inclusive abroad for less than a holiday here 🙄
I don't let it bother me, I am already X amount of £s down by not being at work the days I'm away, so saving a 10 or 20 quid here or there but not doing what I want Doesn't appeal. But if you're a family of 4 say then bloody hell a UK holiday adds up fast if you’re not careful 😯😯

Its definitely cheaper if staying in accommodation of any sort. But that why we have the situation of people staying in rooftent ontop of a hatchback in a Welsh layby and calling it a holiday.
The fleets of 4x4 sprinters is another thing though. Some of the carparks on the downs must have a million quids worth of campers some weekends.

Camper vans are one of things where worth and cost are not the same thing!
I’d rather see someone’s camper conversion on the road than a Chelsea tractor on a school run.

But where do you draw the line when it's not so much a camper conversion but a custom built 4x4 sprinters from a coach works and costs as much a ex council terrace.
Then they all descend upon the local beauty spot and completely clog it up for all the locals

Exactly.👍🏻 I'm not being confused ...I know what a crappy plastic fiat Ducato with the obligatory adventure before dementia stickers and the nicked from landrover "one life live it" logos..look like 😂
Caravans are a scourge that needs purging one stone wall on a tight bend at a time 💥
