That Speiring is City Liftings he has several, They are a good company and know their stuff, I worked for them for a while They also have several Raptor articulated folding jib tower cranes a modern version of the old Tornborgs one. Quite a few of them up in London on tight restricted sites.

Different standards in different countries, Alot of overseas countries buy up our old cranes weather they ever get a thorough safety inspection is doubtful, half the time they get sold is because they a probably going to fail or have failed their inspection, Set up error or there are so many things that have to be considered when instaling a crane way before any lift planning happens and thats before the operator even sits in the cab! Did anyone watch that tv programme on the new nucleur power station that they have been building in Somerset, That was a big lift when they placed the reactor in situ.

yanking at that top structure to break it free did not help in that vid. - particularly if he was at or near his max capability anyway .. could even have creased a boom section without even knowing :rolleyes:

Yes shock loading especially with a tower crane is a big no no, I was in site one day when the concreters lost the concrete poker down in a column of rebar that they where filling with concrete, the wanted to hook my crane up and pull it out I told them no chance and had to explain to them about shock loading and the effect that it can have on a Tower Crane!
