Is it ever worth the grief buying used. This is local to me and approx half the price of a new one but it's 9 years old now...

Wacker are definitely more expensive then Belle. Are they much better? A 25kn 500mm plate from Wacker is a grand more than a 35kn 600mm plate from Belle

We had a wacker and a belle on site the other day side by side. They look practically identical and where giving out the same compaction characteristics. Same engine too. Unless the the forward reverse exciter is drastically better built on the Wacker then I can't see much in it.
No long term views as they where hire machines.

If I was buying it for regular use for paying customers I would buy new usually.

my 3 ton Kubota won't pickup my dpu70-100 about 760kg but awkward with the handle etc my kx161-3 knows about it when you lift with that
hardly use my big one but when I need it its great a 400kg one is still on shopping list
ive a bomag 200kg on wide plate and a 180kg belle on a 500mm plate there my most used ones. dx10 will pick the 180kg one off the trailer so makes it handy, I've the 90 kg belle which is a great plate as well and the 45kg belle but that narely used
always bought second hand and always had to sort something on them lol
got my eye on this though haha

The bell plates are shite the wheels drag on the ground and are really difficult to wheel around when you go to lean them everything you grab is made of plastic.
The second hand ones are ok but don't go bottom of the barrel I got sick of the one I bought and swapped it for 2 brand new ones.
I did get a lumag one from euros it was only 700 still in the crate and did work well but the handle was bad for vibration and it was harder to start. There's a knackered to starting them pull the cord untill you can feel compression then wind the cord in and give it a really good pull if you don't it'll rip the cord out your hand

The Wackers have the best looking baseplate imo. Cast with slightly rounded edges. The belles are more like plate steel and prone to leaving lines- not that that really matters much for my uses.
Wouldn't have a lumag again if you paid me. The vibes on my old one were dreadful

They must have different models as the one we had on site was a cast base plate and the wheels were in the same position as the Wacker unlike the one that @T whiting has used. Also the only plastic part was a panel at the front but you wouldn't be able to grab it as it was surrounded by a metal frame. It had very similar handle design to the Wacker without the additional bar that some of the belle ones have. It may have been an older model but was on hire from speedy along with the wacker

This is the one that appeals to me the most given. Based on size, KN, and price. But baseplate doesn't look quite as good as Wackers IMO

I like the wings on the base plate on my WN.. helps it keep under control when you’re on uneven and less compacted materials.This is the one that appeals to me the most given. Based on size, KN, and price. But baseplate doesn't look quite as good as Wackers IMO

Used originally then it needed minimum of 1100 spent on it so bit the bullet and bought a new 1 as couldn't risk spending more.
At the time I bought it prices were through the roof

My uses for one are very occasional with sudden bursts of activity so baulk at paying £4k for one but I guess if I keep it for 10 years sell it for a grand it's only £300 a year. Doesn't seem so bad like that. Tbh I hate buying used, invariably your just buying someone else's problems and the down time from brake downs costs far more then just the repair.

And you need one that matches your new digger. I’d suggest going for the heaviest one that it will comfortably lift off a trailer.
