travel was literally on/off ... touch the pedal and it came in bang - stopped the same ... really did not like it ... there's wobbly and then there's oh sh*t ... I've had plenty of practise on rubber and like to think I'm pretty smooth, but that little thing was butt clenching
pity, 'cos in principle it'd be a nice thing in tight spots .... at reach it is a REAL balancing act
got some pix somewhere but can't find the damned things ATM
you need to try one ... you'm a duck man - it's an education

Considering changing the Komatsu for something smaller that my right hand man might not be so nervous off but sounds like that might be worse !!! What the smallest side boom duck around just now ?
I had a lot of time on and also owned an ex100wd hitachi . It was the best duck I’ve ever driven by a country mile . They also did a 6 tonne version with side boom but seems to be gone out of favour now . One of them would be very nicely balanced if they still made something similar

The volvo is very bouncy I had a go on the same one as gra and theres one locally that I've seen working and had a quick go on it was very similar and the lad on it was being thrown around. I don't think the tyres help either

The old ew100 wacker is a lovely machine if you can find one in budget.

The new one is even better but the computer is very much in control

The mecalac is lovely and planted very low and pushes like a dozer and is brilliant with pallet forks but the demo one I had was already showing rust I couldn't get the hang of the mecalac boom (though very good for working in low headroom) and it felt short of reach for its size

This looks interesting , amalgamation between liebherr and kubota . 9.5 or 11.5 tonne options . Both side booms .

They look quite good but the whole of the arm is hanging on the front . I’d just prefer a side boom really . Just hardly any made now sub 10 tonne .
didn't see this one then
for some reason it'll/I can only paste the address to link to ... won't link in the vid. link tab ????

There is a guy in Cornwall (Arron Shurvell of ACS Building Services) who has an EW60E with X06 Steelwrist fitted (Potentially the one that was at the Steelwrist demo event), I was down there last week and he said that when they first got it he was unsure he'd made the right decision, but warmed to it and said he couldn't have been without it for the last few years.

I believe he may be looking to sell it at the moment as he's just put a Steelwrist on a U56 and not sure he has the work for a duck at the moment.

There are quite a few of those smaller 6 - 7t ducks out there, Hyundai, Bobcat, Volvo, Wacker, there could be a couple others, to me they always look very narrow for their size and usually have really crap looking tyres. The best one I have seen is Golding's Wacker EW65, they have this and 2 EW100's now I beleive.

Side boom 10t ducks are the way forward I believe, for me the king post style booms just make machines feel cumbersome and the balance feels odd. Granted 90% of my experience is on Mecalac's which as others have stated are 'unique' and do take some getting used to. I had a drive of the Liebherr version of that Kubota at Bauma last year and from the 15 - 20mins I spent on it I really liked it, I have seen quotes for both the 909 and 911 which put them firmly in the £140 - £155k bracket! Kubota UK have a demo KW095 (Liebherr909) which will be back in the UK late feb or early march, we're putting an X12 on it and I'm excited to give that machine a try.
